3 Operators Guide. Introduction EN 3. Introduction The programmable Universal Timer Module is designed to be one of the most adaptable timing units available. The universal timer module has eight unique modes of operation and a flexible relay output making the unit suitable for security applications as well as for any other situation where accurate time delays are required. The universal timer module is capable of timing periods as small as 00 ms (±5 ms) up to a maximum of 4 days or 96 hours (± 8 min). The module can also be configured to operate as a digital toggle unit or a pulse analyser for use with glass break detectors and shock sensors.. The universal timer module has a built-in indicator light that illuminates when the relay is energised, or when a pulse is detected, depending on the mode of operation. If the Pulse Analyser mode is selected, the LED turns on for 00 ms and off for seconds. If a pulse is detected, the LED turns on for seconds. If there is an alarm condition, the LED turns on for 3 seconds and the relay also energises for 3 seconds. 4. Scale and Time DIP switches 4, 5, and 6 select the time scale. Switches 7, 8, and 9 select the multiplier for the time. Table 4 is only relevant when using operating modes (One Shot), (One Shot Retriggerable), 3 (Strobe Reset), and 7 (Delayed Trigger). 4.3 Intensity and Pulses When Pulse Analyser Mode is selected, DIP switches 4, 5, and 6 set the input shock intensity and switches 7, 8, and 9 select the number of pulses that are received during a 30 second period before the output is triggered. Refer to Table 5 for more information. 4.4 Input Trigger Polarity DIP switch 0 selects the input trigger polarity. When switch 0 is in the OFF position, the timer is triggered when +V is removed from the TRIG input. The trigger input must be connected to +V in the normal state and then removed to trigger. When switch 0 is in the ON position, the timer is triggered when +V applied to the TRIG input. The TRIG input must be open circuit or connected to ground and then go to +V to trigger. If you require a low or 0V trigger input, you must connect a K resistor between the TRIG input and +V terminals as shown in Figure. Figure : Low Input Trigger 4. One Shot When One Shot Mode is selected, a change of state on the TRIG input (depending on trigger type) energises the relay for the programmed period of time. Changes on the input terminal after the initial trigger have no effect on the timing. The relay is reset once the programmed time period expires. In the example in Figure, the globe turns on for the preset time when the switch is closed. The switch is disregarded until the preset time expires. 5. One Shot Retriggerable When this mode of operation is selected, a change of state on the TRIG input energises the relay for the programmed time period. If the input is triggered again before the programmed time period expires, the timer is reset and restarted, which extends the one-shot time. In the circuit in Figure 3, the globe turns on for the preset time when the switch is closed momentarily. If the switch is pressed again before the globe turns off, the preset time is extended. 5.3 Strobe Reset If Strobe Reset Mode is selected, a constant trigger signal on the TRIG input energises the relay. The relay remains energised as long as the TRIG input is held in the triggered state. The relay is reset when the timer expires or when the trigger signal is removed. If a strobe is required to reset after a preset time, the circuit in Figure 4 can be used. 5.4 Entry/Exit When Entry/Exit Mode is selected, the universal timer module acts as a small alarm system. When it is powered up, the universal timer has a fixed exit timer of 60 seconds. After this 60-second exit time, the universal timer is ready to be triggered. After the universal timer is triggered (50 milliseconds), the module operates the relay after the programmed entry time has expired. If the universal timer is unsealed at the end of the exit time, the universal timer automatically triggers the relay. DIP switches 4, 5, and 6 set the entry time. DIP switches 7, 8, and 9 set the relay on-time. If the relay on-time is set to latching mode, the universal timer must be powered down to reset. The example circuit in Figure 5 shows a simple onesector alarm system. Refer to Table 3 for setting the DIP switches for the entry timer and the relay on-time. The scale and time programming switches have no effect when this mode of operation is selected. In the example circuit in Figure 6, closing the switch once turns the globe on. This sequence continues as long as the trigger signal remains present. When the switch is closed in the example circuit in Figure 7, the globe is turned on for second and then off for the preset time. The timer repeats this sequence until the switch is released. 5.7 Delayed Trigger When Delayed Trigger Mode is selected, a constant trigger signal on the TRIG input causes the module to count down the time delay. When the delay time expires, the relay operates until the trigger is removed. Removing the trigger at any time stops the delay time or resets the relay. This mode is ideally suited for delaying the trigger to a device after a event has occurred, such as a refrigerator that is out of temperature range. When the switch is closed for the preset time in the circuit in Figure 8, the globe lights and stays on until the switch is released. 5.8 Pulse Analyzer Pulse Analyzer Mode is used to connect to inertia switches. The universal timer monitors pulses generated by inertia switches connected to the circuit and then processes the pulses according to the DIP switch settings. DIP switches 4, 5, and 6 set the shock intensity and DIP switches 7, 8, and 9 program the number of pulses required to trigger the unit. The shock intensity is a measure of the size of a shock and determines whether the shock is registered. Shock intensity varies from 0 to 80. If the TRIG input is open circuit for longer than seconds, the output relay is automatically triggered. Once triggered, the relay remains energised for seconds. Refer to Table 5 for more information. Only one pulse can be registered within a -second period. These pulses are then counted over a 30-second window. In the example circuit in Figure 9, the zone on the control panel is tripped for seconds if a pulse is detected. The circuit in Figure 0 is used if the inertia sensor has a normally open contact.
