When you see this symbol on labels or in manuals, be alert to the potential for personal injury. Understand and pay particular attention to the signal words DANGE, WANING, or AUTION. DANGE indicates an imminently hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. WANING indicates a potentially hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. AUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation, which, if not avoided may result in minor or moderate injury. It is also used to alert against unsafe practices and hazards involving only property damage. LIMITATIONS The ommunicating Zone Panel Kit requires at least one Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol (S1-TTS) to serve as the System Master. This product does not support direct connection with pneumatic dampers. NOTIE The indoor unit must be ommunications apable. Use of the ommunicating Interface ontrol (S ) is not supported with zoning. ZONING SYSTEM INSTALLATION POEDUE The following is a general procedure that is recommended for an efficient, successful zoning system installation. Details for the installation and configuration of the zoning components and the system are included later in this document. 1. eview training material and zoning component installation instructions as necessary to familiarize yourself with the features and limitations of the zoning system. 2. Use sound design practices and industry standards to determine the requirements for the equipment, ductwork, zone sizes and layout, damper types and sizes, etc. Be sure to consider all applicable local codes and ordinances. 3. Based on the Homeowner and site requirements determine the sensor types, locations, and zone numbers for all zones. The Master Touch Screen will always be located in Zone Determine requirements for transformer to power dampers and acquire transformer. Transformer to power dampers is not included in the Zone Panel kit. 5. Determine if indoor transformer must be replaced based on system power requirements. For zoning systems using any Touch Screen Sensors in addition to the Master Touch Screen, the indoor transformer should be replaced with a 75VA transformer. 6. Select a location for the Zone Panel and Leaving Air Sensor. 7. omplete physical installation of ductwork, dampers, and Leaving Air Sensor. oute wires to selected Zone Panel location. 8. omplete the physical installation of the indoor and outdoor equipment and any system accessories such as Ultraviolet Lights, Electronic Air leaners, etc. Setting jumpers on indoor and outdoor equipment controls to desired locations is recommended but not required. eplace indoor unit transformer if necessary. 9. 2 UAI-0114 LAYOUT The graphic below (Figure 1) shows the Zone Panel control from a top view. There are six, four-wire communication terminals on the left side of the control for connecting zone sensors as well as two additional four-wire communication terminals for connecting equipment (screw terminal) and a service tool (plug terminal). All communication terminals serve as a "hub" to interface with the communicating equipment in the system. Located on the right side of the board are each zone's corresponding dampers connections, and a transformer connection that provides 24VA to the dampers. The terminals for connecting the leaving air sensor are also located on the right side of the control board. The zone damper output terminals are used to control damper positions commanded by the Master Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol. The Zone Panel control supports Power Open / Power losed dampers (3-wire) or Normally Open / Normally losed dampers (2-wire). Output functions are listed in Table 1. WIING ELETIAL OPEATION HAZAD Failure to follow this warning could result in personal injury, death, or equipment damage. Before installing, modifying, or servicing system, the main electrical disconnect switch must be in the off position. There may be more than 1 disconnect switch with a suitable warning label. Wiring equirements All wiring must comply with local electrical codes and ordinances. Standard 18 awg thermostat wires can be used to connect the communicating system. Special (shielded) cable is not typically required. As with all communicating devices, it is a good idea to keep wiring at least one foot away from large inductive loads. Examples of large inductive loads include: electronic air cleaners, motors, etc. If these wiring practices are ignored, it may introduce electrical interference (noise) which can cause erratic system operation. NOTIE There may be installation applications where large inductive loads cannot be avoided. In these cases shielded wire would be desired to ensure proper system functionality. NOTIE For ease of system configuration and troubleshooting, it is strongly recommended that each zone sensor be connected to the zone number corresponding to the number assigned to the zone in which it is located (Zone 1 sensor should be connected to the four-wire screw terminal labeled "Zone 1", etc.). However, the communicating zone sensors will function properly when connected to any of the four-wire screw communication terminals. Johnson ontrols Unitary Products 5

6 UAI-0114 Indoor Equipment Wiring onnect the indoor equipment (furnace or air handler) control to the zone panel control EQUIPMENT terminal. The indoor equipment transformer provides 24 VA power to all of the zone sensors as well as the outdoor equipment and accessory controls. A replaceable fuse is included in the circuit of the Zone Panel control. NOTIE It is highly recommended to replace the factory 40VA transformer with a 75 VA transformer (purchased separately) in any system having more than one Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol. onnect an external transformer (purchased separately) to the DAMPE XFM terminals. This external transformer provides power to the zone dampers. A replaceable fuse is included in the circuit of the Zone Panel control. The required power rating for the external transformer depends on the number of dampers installed in the system and the power requirement for each damper. The power requirements for the dampers can be found in the literature for that product. It is important to calculate the actual power required for the dampers and size the external transformer appropriately. During normal operation, all dampers will be opened or closed simultaneously under some conditions. Therefore, the rating of the external transformer should meet or exceed the total power requirement for all dampers. When a modulating furnace is present in the system, the Zone jumper must be set to the YES position. An external transformer must be installed to power the dampers. This transformer is not included with the Zone Panel kit. Leaving Air Temperature Sensor Wiring onnect the wires from the Leaving Air Sensor to the LAS terminals in the lower right corner of the Zone Panel control. The Leaving Air Sensor should be mounted beyond the evaporator coil in the supply air ductwork. The sensor should be mounted so that it is in the airstream. Extend the LAS leads as necessary using wire nuts and standard thermostat wire. NOTE: See Figures 3 and 4 for wiring connections. The Leaving Air Sensor must be installed to allow zoning operation FIGUE 8: Modulating Furnace Zone ontrol Jumper Damper Wiring onnect the zone dampers (purchased separately) to the appropriate three-wire zone damper output screw terminals on the right side of the Zone Panel control. NOTIE The zone dampers must be connected to the appropriate zone number as specified during the configuration of the system using the Master Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol. UPGADING TOUH SEEN OMMUNIAT- ING ONTOLS TO ZONING FIMWAE For the easiest installation experience, all Touch Screen ommunicating ontrols in the system should be upgraded from non-zoning to zoning firmware before beginning the installation of the zoning system. NOTIE All Touch Screen ommunicating ontrols are shipped from Source One with non-zoning firmware installed. When used in a zoning system, each Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol must be upgraded to the same version of zoning firmware. The latest version of firmware can be downloaded from the Technical Services section of UPGnet.com. onsecutive zone numbers, starting with Zone 1 as the Master zone, must be used! Do not skip zone numbers when identifying the zones and wiring the zone dampers. All Touch Screen ommunicating ontrols must have the same version of zoning firmware. The devices will confirm that the firmware versions match and display a warning screen if non-matching firmware versions are detected. 6 Johnson ontrols Unitary Products

7 UAI If the Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol has not been upgraded to zoning firmware, insert the USB drive and adapter included with the ommunicating Zone ontrol Panel kit into the USB port on the bottom of the Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol. 2. Apply power to system. 3. The Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol will display a white screen then gradually paint the screen from top to bottom until the firmware upgrade process is complete. Later versions of the Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol will display a progress indicator in the middle of the screen to indicate that the firmware upgrade is in process. Once the firmware upgrade is complete, the screen will then display the word "Loading ". At this point, remove the USB drive from the Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol. If the system includes multiple Touch Screen ommunicating ontrols, remove power from the system and repeat the firmware upgrade process for each device. ZONE SENSO DEVIE ONFIGUATION AND STATUP Before beginning the startup process at the Master Touch Screen, all Zone Displays and Zone Sensors must be set to the appropriate Zone Number using the DIP switches on the devices. See the installation instructions for these products for detailed information on making these settings and mounting the devices. If the system includes any Touch Screen ommunicating ontrols in addition to the Master Touch Screen, select "Sensor Mode" and specify the Zone ID at each of these devices before proceeding with the system configuration at the Master Touch Screen. The Touch Screen Sensors will display a "Network Traffic Detected" screen until the system configuration is completed at the Master Touch Screen. The date and time do not have to be set on the Touch Screen Sensors. The Master Touch Screen sets and updates the date and time on all zone sensor devices. NOTIE etry If the highest number of zone is not wired properly, there is not a zone that is out of sequence. Therefore, the Master Touch Screen will not display a warning screen. When the ontinue button is pressed, the Master Touch Screen will display the zone devices that have been detected. Use this information to determine which zone sensor has been configured incorrectly or is miswired. For instance, in Figure 14 no sensor has been detected for Zone 2. If this condition occurs, check the wiring to the zone sensor that has not been detected or reconfigure the zone numbers of the zone sensors as necessary. Once the miswiring or misconfiguration condition has been corrected, press the Back button to return to the Zone Detection warning screen and press the etry button. The Master will then detect the connected zone sensors again. When the proper zone sensors are detected, continue the system configuration process at the Zone Settings screen. FIGUE 13: Zone Detected Out of Sequence Screen ontinue FIGUE 14: Zone Detection Screen with Zone 2 Missing ZONE SETTINGS Figure 15 and Figure 16 show the Zone Settings screens. These settings are used to configure the Master Touch Screen to match the type of dampers that are installed and provide the appropriate functionality for the particular installation. The system will not function properly if the Zone Settings are not correct for the particular installation. Be sure to confirm that the Zone Settings are correct before leaving this screen. Number of Zones The Number of Zones will be automatically populated based on the number of zone sensors that the Master Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol has detected. This field contains the same information as the Detected Zones screen and provides another opportunity to confirm that the proper number of zone sensors have been detected. Type of Dampers The available options for Type of Dampers are "2 wire" and "3 wire". Select "2 wire" for Normally Open or Normally losed dampers and "3 wire" for Power Open / Power lose dampers. The Type of Damper setting must match the type of dampers that are installed and the dampers must be wired properly to the Zone Panel control. See Figure 6 and Figure 7 for more details on the damper wiring. Heat/ool hangeover Time The Heat/ool hangeover Time is the amount of time the Master Touch Screen will wait to energize the system for cooling if the system is currently in heating or heating if the system is currently in cooling. This setting only applies when the system is in Auto hangeover mode. This value can be set to 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 minutes. The default setting is 15 minutes. Airflow Bleeding Options The zoning system provides options for managing the airflow restrictions that will be present for most zoning installations. Airflow restrictions will occur when the amount of airflow required for system operation exceeds the airflow required for the calling zones. NOTIE Power Open / Power losed (3 wire) dampers are required for the Airflow Bleeding functionality. The airflow bleeding options will not be displayed if the Type of Dampers is set to "2 wire". 8 Johnson ontrols Unitary Products

9 UAI-0114 With Bypass Damper The first option to manage airflow restrictions is the use of a bypass damper. A bypass damper may be installed as a part of the system ductwork and is not connected to the Zone Panel control. The bypass damper is not connected to the ommunication Network and, therefore, the Master Touch Screen does not control or monitor its operation. When a bypass damper is installed, the "Allow excess airflow bleeding into other zones?" checkbox may be set to "Yes" or No. NOTIE If Normally Open or Normally losed (2 wire) dampers are used and airflow restrictions are anticipated, a bypass damper should be installed in the ductwork system. Zone Settings Zone Settings: Number of Zones: Type of Dampers: Heat/ool hangeover Time: 11:07AM Thu 21 Jul FIGUE 15: Zone Settings Screen 1 4 zones 3 wire 15 minutes Back Next OK Without Bypass Damper The second option to manage airflow restrictions is the airflow bleeding functionality of the zoning system. With this functionality, the Master Touch Screen redirects excess airflow to other zones by partially opening dampers to the non-calling zones when the airflow required for proper equipment operation exceeds that of the airflow required by the calling zones. When a bypass damper is not installed and airflow restrictions are anticipated, the "Allow excess airflow bleeding into other zones?" checkbox should be set to "Yes". While the system is operating, the Master Touch Screen continually determines if there is a need to bleed excess airflow to other zones. This determination is based on the airflow required for proper operation at the time considering equipment limitations, stage of operation and other factors and the airflow settings for each zone that is calling for conditioning. If the Master Touch Screen determines that there is a need to implement the airflow bleeding functionality, it uses each of the enabled options to manage the airflow to the various zones while maintaining the setpoint of each zone as closely as possible. The enabled options are implemented in the order shown on the screen starting from the top. Enable or disable the following options based on the actual site requirements. "Allow airflow bleeding into zones in same mode". This option allows the Master Touch Screen to partially open dampers to zones that are operating in the same mode (heating or cooling) but do not have a call for conditioning. This option is always used when Airflow Bleeding is enabled. "Allow airflow bleeding into zones in Off mode". This option allows the Master Touch Screen to partially open dampers to zones that are in Off mode (not in heating or cooling mode) but do not have a call for conditioning. "Allow airflow bleeding into zones in opposite mode". This option allows the Master Touch Screen to partially open dampers to zones that are in the opposite mode (heating when in cooling mode or vice versa) and do not have a call for conditioning. Zone Settings 11:07AM Thu 21 Jul Yes Allow excess airflow bleeding into other zones? Allow like airflow demand bleeding airflow into zones bleeding? same mode? FIGUE 16: Zone Settings Screen 2 Back DAMPE TIMES The Damper Times screen shown in Figure 17 is only applicable to Open / Power losed (3 wire) dampers. This screen will not be shown if the "Type of Dampers" setting is "2 wire" on the Zone Settings screen. The damper time is the time required to fully open or close the damper. This value can be obtained from the technical specifications for the damper being used. This value can be set to 15, 30, 45, 60, or 90 seconds. The default setting is 30 seconds. NOTIE No Actual damper times can vary from specified values. For best results measure the actual time required to fully open or close the damper being installed in each zone and use this value on the Damper Times screen. Accurate damper time settings are important for proper system operation. Johnson ontrols Unitary Products 9

The actual airflow delivered to each zone may differ from these values for some installations. If the total airflow specified for all zones exceeds 150% of the maximum airflow that can be delivered by the indoor unit, the screen shown in Figure 20 will appear to alert you to this fact. You may choose to reduce the airflow to some or all zones to alleviate this situation depending on the installation conditions. FIGUE 18: Zoning Airflows Screen Back Next After setting the airflow for a zone, use the Test button to confirm that the specified airflow is correct for each zone. Go to each zone and confirm that the airflow noise level is acceptable for that zone. NOTIE After the Test button is pressed, the Master Touch Screen will close all dampers except for the zone being tested. The indoor unit will not deliver air to the zone being tested until this process is complete. Expect a delay that is at least as long as the greatest Damper Time specified for the system. FIGUE 20: Airflow Limitation Notification Screen If the airflow for a zone is less than the minimum airflow that can be delivered by the indoor unit, a screen will appear to alert you to this fact. When Power Open / Power losed (3 wire) dampers are installed, the screen will explain that the airflow bleeding functionality described in the Zone Settings section of this document will be implemented. See Figure 16. When Normally Open or Normally losed (2 wire) dampers are installed, the screen will recommend that a bypass damper be used. See Figure 21. You may choose to increase the airflow to some or all zones or reconfigure the zone layout of the site to alleviate this situation depending on the installation conditions. 10 Johnson ontrols Unitary Products

11 UAI-0114 FIGUE 21: Zone Airflow Bleeding Screen FIGUE 22: Zone Airflow Bypass Screen ZONE NAMES Names can be set for each zone. These names can be changed by the Homeowner at any time. NOTIE For some screens, the space available to display the zone name is limited. For this reason, shorter zone names may be preferred. ZONE SAFETIES The minimum leaving air temperature allowed for cooling and the maximum leaving air temperature allowed for heating can be specified. These limits are based on the temperature measured by the Leaving Air Sensor and are used only for protection of the system. The Leaving Air Sensor value is not used in the comfort control algorithm. NOTIE The installation location of the Leaving Air Sensor and the ductwork configuration will be unique for each site. The zone safety settings may need to be adjusted for some configurations. SYSTEM ONFIGUATION AND OPEATION This section provides information that may help you better understand the system operation and configure the system to best meet the unique needs of the site and the Homeowner. The Zoning User's Information Manual provides additional information on the features and functionality of the Homeowner settings and screens. ontinuous Fan Operation The fan mode and operation interval settings can be specified for each zone by the Homeowner. However, the fan percentage setting will be applied to all zones. The actual airflow delivered to each zone during fan operation will depend on the airflow settings made for each zone during installation and the number of zones that are calling for fan operation at any given time. Since the fan interval settings can be manually set or scheduled for each zone, the Homeowner may notice that the fan is cycling more often than they expect. Additionally, since the speed at which the fan will operate is the specified percentage of the zones that are currently calling for fan operation, the fan speed will vary as the number of zones that are calling change. The homeowner may notice this change of fan speed. Humidity Settings and ontrol The Homeowner can adjust the Humidity setpoints using the Manual mode. However, the use of the "Auto" Humidity function is highly recommended. Improper humidity settings by the homeowner can result in property damage resulting from extreme humidity levels. Zone Sensors and Zone Displays do not feature humidity sensing capability. Therefore, humidity sensing and control per zone is only available when Touch Screen ommunicating ontrols are installed in each zone. Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol Homeowner Functionality The Master Touch Screen has more functionality than the Touch Screen Sensors. It is important that the the Homeowner understand these difference when selecting the zone that will be designated the Master Zone and include the Master Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol. Some settings can only be made at the Master Touch Screen but affect all Touch Screen Sensors. These include the following: View/Mode (Non-programmable, Programmable, Advanced Programmable) Temperature Display Unit (Fahrenheit / elsius) Time Format Security The PIN specified at the Master Touch Screen applies to all Touch Screen Sensors Language ontinuous Fan Percentage (speed) ontinuous fan mode (Auto, Manual, Schedule) and Interval Setting can be made for each zone at the Touch Screen Sensor Schedule Management Vacation Settings Emergency Heat Scheduling Override (Advanced Programmable mode) Service Tool Mode can only be entered at the Master Touch Screen. Johnson ontrols Unitary Products 11

12 NOTIE Security settings apply only to Touch Screen Sensors. Temperature adjustment using a Zone Display is allowed even when Security is enabled for the Master Touch Screen and Touch Screen Sensors. To prevent temperature setpoint adjustment in a particular zone, install a Zone Sensor or a Touch Screen Sensor and enable Security. Manage Zones Functionality The Homeowner can use the Manage Zones feature to view and adjust other zones from any Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol. However, as noted above, the Homeowner will have more functionality at the Master Touch Screen than at Touch Screen Sensors. It is important for the Homeowner to note the zone that they are viewing or adjusting in the upper left corner of the screen. The Homeowner should also be reminded to use the Manage Zones feature to return the view to the zone that they are in when they are done viewing or adjusting other zones. The Master Touch Screen and the Touch Screen Sensors will return the view to their designated zone when the Touch Screen display goes into the sleep screen. Non-Zoning Mode In Non-Zoning mode the Master Touch Screen will open the dampers for all zones and function as a single zone system with only one Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol. The Master Touch Screen will display "Non-Zoning" in the zone name field while in Non-Zoning mode. The Touch Screen Sensors will continue to display the zone name and will be active. However, user interaction with the Touch Screen Sensors or Zone Displays will have no effect on the operation of the system. The Master Touch Screen will enter Non-Zoning mode during fault conditions or when the Homeowner selects Non-Zoning mode at the Zoning onfiguration screen. Temperature ontrol Settings The Temperature ontrol Settings, located in the Installer Menu under Tools/Settings > System Settings > omfort Settings > Temperature ontrol Settings, may need to be adjusted depending on the type of equipment installed, number and size of zones, and other specific requirements of the Homeowner and the site. Typical settings for a non-zoned system may not be ideal for a zoning system. Be sure to review the settings and consider the application to the specific site before completing the installation. Importing and Exporting Settings The Master Touch Screen allows configuration information to be imported and exported as described in the Touch Screen ommunicating ontrol Installation Manual. It is important to note the following items regarding use of the configuration files for zoning systems. onfiguration files can only be imported and exported at the Master Touch Screen. Touch Screen Sensors do not include this feature. Dealer information is displayed at the Master Touch Screen and Touch Screen Sensors. However, the dealer logo is only displayed at the Master Touch Screen. onfiguration files from one zoning system should not be used with other zoning systems. This can introduce significant issues because of differences in the type of zone sensors, number of zones, etc. For example, if the configuration files from a three-zone system having Zone Sensors are imported into a four-zone system having Touch Screen Sensors, the Master Touch Screen will not communicate with Touch Screen Sensor in the fourth zone and will not configure the other two Touch Screen Sensors correctly. Do not use configuration files from one zoning system with another zoning system. Significant issues can occur. omfort Studio P software can be used by the Homeowner and the Installer to configure the system from a computer. The configuration files can be imported from and exported to a USB drive using omfort Studio. ontact your distributor for instructions on downloading omfort Studio. Temporary System Operation and System econfiguration For some installations, the indoor unit may be installed and operated before the outdoor unit is installed.
