1 SECTION 210- WATER-BASED FIRE-SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 0 l Specification Sections, apply this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Provide fire sprinkler system throughout the facility. This is a Youth Detention Center, Institutional Occupancy Group 1-3, Condition 5 in conformance with the 2015 International Building Code Section Only Schedule 40 pipe is permitted for this project. B. These documents reflect systems designed by licensed Fire Protection Engineers. The design is approved by the State of Missouri and modifications from the system layout and design are not permitted without the written permission from the State and Engineers ofrecord. C. The Office of Mental Health 15th Edition released in January 31, 2016 indicates that Viking VK41 0 Pendant and VK412 Sidewall Institutional Flush Sprinklers are NOT accepted for use. Do NOT use these or similar by others because the heat sensor projects below the sprinkler head enclosure and is accessible patients. D. This Section includes the following fire-suppression piping inside the building: 1. Wet-pipe sprinkler systems. 2. Preaction sprinkler systems (in residential wings) as indicated on the plans. E. Related Sections include the following: 1. Division 28 Section "Fire Detection and Alarm" for alarm devices not specified in this Section. 1.3 SYSTEM DESCRIPTIONS A. Wet-Pipe Sprinkler System: Aumatic sprinklers are attached piping containing water and that is connected water supply. Water discharges immediately from sprinklers when they are opened. Sprinklers open when heat melts fusible link or destroys frangible device. Hose connections are included if indicated. B. Preaction Sprinkler System: Aumatic sprinklers are attached ptpmg containing air. Actuation of fire-detection system in same area as sprinklers opens deluge valve, permitting water flow in piping and discharge from sprinklers that have opened. 1.4 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A.
