Installation Instructions Notice Addressable NAC Output Module D327A These instructions cover the installation of the D327A Addressable NAC Output Module in an analog system controlled by a Bosch D8024, D9024 or D10024 Series Analog Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP). Install, test and maintain the D327A according to these instructions, NFPA 72, Local Codes and the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Failure to follow these instructions might result in failure of the device to operate properly. Bosch is not responsible for improperly installed, tested or maintained devices. These instructions contain procedures to follow in order to avoid personal injury and damage to equipment. NFPA 72 requires a complete system-wide functional test be performed following any modifications, repair, upgrades or adjustments made to the system s components, hardware, wiring, programming and software/ firmware. 1.0 Device Description The D327A Addressable Notification Appliance Circuit (NAC) Output Module is used to supervise and control notification appliances, such as horn/strobes, operating in a single circuit. At a single address on the FACP s polling circuit, the D327A provides a connection point for an alarm notification circuit (such as horn/strobes and bells) to the system. It also provides terminals for connecting auxiliary power from the FACP, or from a regulated, power-limited auxiliary power supply to the notification circuit. The D327A supervises the wiring of the notification circuit attached to it and provides power to the notification devices on that circuit. In an alarm condition, the D327A switches power from the auxiliary power source to the notification circuit and supervises the auxiliary power input. A status LED confirms polling activity. The LED flashes green to indicate a normal condition. 2.0 Specifications Operating Voltage 17 to 41 VDC Nominal Supply Voltage 24 VDC Standby Current 320 µa (typical) Polling Current 22 ma ±20% Alarm Current 5 ma Operating Temperature +14 F to +120 F (-10 C to +49 C) Maximum Humidity 85% RH-non-condensing (@ +104 F, +40 C) Dimensions (H x W x D) 4 11/16 in. x 4 3/16 in. x 1 3/8 in. 2 D327A Setting the Detector Address 3.0 Setting the Detector Address Note: The D327A cannot be learned onto the Signaling Line Circuit (SLC) when in alarm or trouble. Also, the D327A must have 24 VDC power applied before it can be learned. Each analog device is assigned a specific address, which is set by programming an EEPROM microchip. It is not necessary to wire the devices to the FACP s polling circuit in any particular order. The D5070 Analog Device Programmer must be used to set the address on the D327A BEFORE connecting them to the FACP s polling circuit. Make sure the battery in the D5070 is connected prior to programming. Remote Programming Jack Receptacle Non-polarized plug (to device) To Remote Programming Jack Programming Buttons Display Module Programming Adapter Figure 1: D5070 Analog Device Programmer 3.1 Using the D5070 Analog Device Programmer D5070 Programming Buttons Refer to Table 1 for descriptions of the three programming buttons on the D5070 Analog Device Programmer. Programming Description Button Left Gray Button Power on. Automatically reads the address of a detector. Advances the address by ten. Right Gray Button Power off. Advances the address by one. Red Button Stores the displayed address in the detector. Reads analog level. Table 1: D5070 Programming Buttons Page Bosch
D327A Setting the Detector Address Setting the Address The following steps explain how to set an address using the D5070 Analog Device Programmer. See Figure 1 on page 2 and Figure 2 for more details. 1. Insert the non-polarized plug on the Module Programming Adapter onto the address pins on the D327A. 2. Plug the Remote Programming Jack on the Module Programming Adapter into the Remote Programming Jack Receptacle on the D5070 Analog Device Programmer (see Figure 2). 3. Press the left gray button to turn the D5070 on. A battery check message will appear followed by the device s address. 4. Set the address by pressing the left and right gray buttons until the desired address is reached. Note: The D5070 display will show three red flashing dots if the address being programmed is different than the device s current address. 5. When the desired address is displayed, press the red button to program that address. The three red dots disappear from the display. E1 Attempting to program an address with no device connected. E2 Cannot find the device after power up, or replace the device. E3 Invalid detector response (replace the detector). E4 Cannot find the device to program. E5 Device read error. E6 Fail during analog value reading (replace detector). Table 2: D5070 Display Messages 2004 Bosch Page 3
D327A Wiring the D327A 4.0 Wiring the D327A Inform the operator and the Local Authority before installing this device in an existing system. Remove all power (AC and battery) from the FACP before connecting or disconnecting any devices. Failure to do so might result in personal injury and/or damage to the equipment. Analog polling circuits connect to the FACP over two-wire cable. The bus protocol resists interference from most types of EMI and RF generated noise. Under extremely noisy conditions, use twisted pair wire to reduce interference. If EMI is a problem, use shielded cable. See Section Shielded Cable on page 5 for shielded cable guidelines. 4.1 Wiring Guidelines Data Circuit Length Data circuit length is the distance over the circuit wire from the connection at the D9067 Polling Circuit Module to the most distant device and back to the D9067 Module. Data circuit length must include the distance to any device connected to the circuit in a T tap. See Table 3 for polling circuit lengths and acceptable wire gauges. Polling Circuit Length Up to 4000 ft (1219 m) 4000 ft to 7000 ft (1219 m to 2134 m) Wire Gauge #18 AWG (1.2 mm) #16 AWG (1.5 mm) Table 3: Polling Circuit Length/Wire Gauge Sensor Circuit Wiring Requirements Nominal Capacitance: 28 pf/ft Typical Cable Resistance: 3 Ω/1000 ft Maximum Loop Resistance: 25 Ω Recommended Maximum Loop Capacitance: Not to exceed 0.25 µf Page Bosch
D327A Wiring the D327A Shielded Cable If shielded cable is used, and the cable is of good quality, then it should not have a significant effect on the polling circuit length. Good quality shielded cable will allow 0.25 µfd of capacitance, 1 mh of inductance and 25 Ω resistance. Connect the drain wire for shielded cable to the E terminal of the Data Terminal Block inside the FACP. Note: Use only FPL, FPLR or FPLP wiring, or an approved equivalent, in accordance with Article 760 of the National Electric Code (NEC) D327A NAC Connections The NAC device wiring shall not exceed 50 Ω (#14 to #18 AWG, 1.8 to 1.2 mm). Install the EOL resistor provided with the D327A as shown in Figure 4 on page 6. NAC devices must be polarized (DC) and connected in polarity as shown in Figure 4. Total current drawn off this circuit cannot exceed 2 A. Maximum voltage is 30 VDC Bosch Page 5

5.0 Mounting the D327A D327A Mounting the D327A The D327A mounts on a plate that attaches to a 4.0 in. (10.2 cm), UL Listed electrical back box (supplied by installer) that is at least 2 1 /8 in. (5.4 cm) deep. A cover plate conceals the address pins, but leaves the LED visible. After all wiring connections have been made, attach the mounting plate to the back box as shown in Figure 6. Attach the cover plate over the front of the mounting plate (LED facing out). When the D327A is properly mounted and all system hardware modifications are completed (such as adding and removing devices), restore power to the system by connecting the standby batteries, and close the 120 VAC dedicated breaker that controls the power input to the FACP.
