1 Controls Group 507 E. Michigan Street P.O. Box 43 Milwaukee, WI 530 ADDENDUM to IFC640 for Factory Mutual Applications Document 5864ADD 07/9/003 A P/N 5864ADD:A ECN 033
2 Section Releasing Service WARNING When used for CO releasing applications, observe proper precautions as stated in NFPA. Do not enter the protected space unless physical lockout and other safety procedures are fully completed. Do not use software disable functions in the panel as lockout. SECTION RELEASING SERVICE This supplement describes the requirements of using the fire alarm control panel (FACP) in Factory Mutual releasing or preaction/deluge applications. For complete information on installing, programming, and operating see the appropriate FACP manuals: IFC640: Document 5864 The FACP may be used as a control panel for agent release or preaction/deluge applications. When used with compatible, approved actuating and initiating devices, the system meets the requirements of the following standards: NFPA NFPA A NFPA 3 NFPA 5 NFPA 6 NFPA 7 NFPA 7A NFPA 00 CO Extinguishing Systems (High Pressure Only) Halon 30 Extinguishing Systems Sprinkler Systems Water Spray Systems FoamWater Deluge and FoamWater Spray Systems Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems SECTION HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS Releasing Device Circuit Resistance When using the panel for releasing or preaction/deluge applications, the wiring for the releasing circuits must be configured to maintain a minimum of 0.4 VDC at the releasing device. The formula shown below may be used to calculate the maximum allowable resistance due to wiring on the releasing circuit. Rmax =.0V.3V Is Where: Rmax equals the maximum allowable wiring resistance; and Is equals the solenoid current. Factory Mutual Releasing Requirements Factory Mutual requires 90 hours of standby in all preaction/deluge applications. Factory Mutual also requires redundant wiring (NFPA Style 6 for SLC loop and NFPA Style D for initiating loop) on all initiating device circuits used in preaction/deluge applications. For NFPA 3 and 5 applications, the soak timer must be disabled. For NFPA 6 applications, the soak timer must be set to 0 or 5 minutes. Do not program an abort switch for deluge/preaction applications. IFC640 FM Addendum PN 5864ADD:A 07/9/003
