10 Glossary Note: The following data explain your choices in filling out Table A. Alarm Number: predefined value 1 to 16 used throughout the system to identify a particular alarm. Call when Clear: check if users are to be notified when an alarm clears. Connect Menu:This selection will connect you to the subject QA216R to allow you to first transfer the configuration and then to operate and control the device locally. Delete Device: this item, under the File menu, is available only when the current system record was retrieved from disk using Open Device. It deletes the disk record and blanks the current system record. Description: up to 30 characters. Leave blank if no alarm defined. Exit: this item, under the File menu, closes the QA216 program. Help Menu: This program is equipped with an extensive help system which can be used to help you to understand, configure and monitor the device. New Device: this item, under the File menu, initializes a blank device record with the default name UNTITLED. This becomes the current system record. It may be assigned a name by doing a Save Device As, which renames the current system record and saves it to disk. Normally Closed: alarms are essentially detected as changes in the position of a switch. The QA216 assumes that conditions are normal when a switch is open and triggers an alarm when it closes. In some applications this is reversed and the alarm occurs when the switch opens. Check Normally Closed if you have any alarms that are wired up this way. Number of Rings: how many rings the QA216 will wait before answering a call, usually 2. This may be increased to as many as 15 if, for instance, the QA216 is sharing a voice line and you want to give personnel a chance to pick up before the device does. Open Device: this item, under the File menu, retrieves a device record which was previously saved in.dbf format. Periodic Status Reporting: Periodic Status Reports are pages that are routinely issued at a fixed time interval to selected pager users, indicating the current state of all alarms. Check Periodic Status - Enabled to generate such reports. Phone Number Reporting To: the number the QA216 will dial to report alarms. Print: this item, under the File menu, produces a listing of device properties for selected devices. Qualification Period: time period that an alarm must be active before the QA216 will consider it to be valid and reportable. Range and resolution depends upon the Qualification Period Base Time. If the base time is Tenths of Seconds, range is zero to 6 minutes to the nearest tenth of a second. If the base time is Seconds, range is zero to 1 hour to the nearest second. If the base time is Minutes, range is zero to 60 hours to the nearest minute. D-PC A OG-QAR-310
11 Qualification Period Base Time: the base unit for expressing Qualification Periods. The range and resolution of Qualification Periods for individual alarms depends upon this value. If the base time is Tenths of Seconds, range is zero to 6 minutes to the nearest tenth of a second. If the base time is Seconds, range is zero to 1 hour to the nearest second. If the base time is Minutes, range is zero to 60 hours to the nearest minute. Reindex: This command allows you to rebuild the database index and it may cure the problem of a scrambled or missing database Report Interval: the period between Periodic Status Reports, 15 minutes to 255 hours 59 minutes. Timing starts at the moment that device parameters are written to the QA216. Ring Bypass/Active Rings: provides a capability for a QA216 to share its phone line with another device such as an answering machine. When incoming calls are detected, if a break between rings of at least BREAK seconds is observed, the QA216 will open a Bypass Window that is ACTIVE seconds long. If a number of rings equal to RINGS is received while the bypass window is active, the QA216 will answer. Example: QA216 shares phone line with answering machine set to pick up after 4 rings. Set QA216 NUMBER OF RINGS to 6, BYPASS BREAK to 10 seconds, BYPASS ACTIVE to 30 seconds, and BYPASS RINGS to 2. If a single call with uninterrupted ringing is received, the answering machine will pick up on the 4th ring. (If the answering machine is off, the QA216 will answer on the 6th ring). To reach the QA216, dial the number, hang up after 3 rings, wait a little more than 10 seconds, then dial again within 30 seconds. The QA216 will answer on the second ring. Save Device: this item, under the File menu, is available only when the current system record was retrieved from disk using Open Device. It writes the current system record back to the same directory path and device name where it originated. Save Device As: this item, under the File menu, saves the current system record to disk after permitting a new directory path and device name to be specified. Site Number: numeric value used to identify a particular QA216 Remote device. Site Phone: the number dialed to call in to the QA216 Remote device. Times to Repeat: the number of times to retry the alarm reporting cycle if an ack is not received. D-PC A OG-QAR-310
