2 WARNINGS & CAUTIONS OVERVIEW READ THIS INSTRUCTION MANUAL CAREFULLY. PLEASE NOTE IN PARTICULAR THAT THE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE OBSERVED. ON DELIVERY AND BEFORE INSTALLATION CHECK THAT THE PACKAGING IS UNDAMAGED. REPORT ANY VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSPORT COMPANY IMMEDIATELY. WARNING Read and follow these Installation Instructions, particularly the Warnings and Cautions, before using your alarm system. Failure to do so may result in injury or death to the patient in your care. A B D Before installing the alarm system Harvest Healthcare Ltd recommends carrying out a risk assessment to ascertain if this product is suitable for the person and the compatibility of the system to the bed or chair this alarm system is being used with. E Use your alarm system in conjunction with your facility s fall prevention program. This alarm system is not a substitute for proper nursing care. The effectiveness of the alarm system relies on immediate response by the caregiver. This alarm system will not prevent someone leaving a bed or chair, wheelchair or room. It is intended only to alert the caregiver that the patient may need assistance. Other interventions may be required in some instances. The alarm system and pressure pads can be defeated by a cognitively aware person or an uncooperative person with only a few moments of lucidity. Properly assess each individual before the alarm system is used. When the low battery light is on, replace the batteries. Use only 5V AA alkaline batteries. The alarm system does not recharge batteries. Check for low battery before every use. Keep the pressure pad flat at all times. If the pressure pad is folded it may not function properly. Do not use the pressure pad if it has been folded. Replace the pressure pad if it has been creased. F Harvest pressure pads are not recommended for persons weighing less than 70lbs. Check for suitable use with each individual before the alarm system is used. C CAUTION Inspect the alarm system to make sure that it is held securely to the bed or chair by the positioning strap. Use care when connecting or disconnecting the alarm system to the nurse call system. Gently remove or connect the plugs. Pulling on the cord may damage it resulting in system failure. Do not immerse in liquid, or use the mat if it has been immersed in liquid. The pressure pads are deisgned for use with this alarm system and the Harvest Vigilant systems only. Do not substitute any other fall monitoring devices. Only use Harvest Healthcare approved spare parts. Failure to do so may cause improper operation or damage to the alarm system. 3 OVERVIEW OVERVIEW Sounder Low Battery Indicator If the light is illuminated, replace the battery immediately. Pad In Use Indicator When the system is activated and a person is on the sensor mat the light will flash approximately once a second to show the system is active. Reset / Test Button Press to silence or reset system. Press button to test the system, the alarm will sound and the button will flash three times. Sensor Mat Input Power Supply Input Nurse Call Output OPERATION PANEL OPERATION STICKER Positioning Strap Strap ties round this loop and can be attached to the framework of the bed / chair. Battery Compartment (Takes 3x 5V AA batteries) Operation Sticker Sticker referrs to the functions of the Operation Panel. Operation Panel Volume Choose between 3 volume levels Mute Mute the on-board sounder. When mute is enabled it will trigger your nurse call (if connected). Tones Select 1 of 3 different tones Delay Switch Settings (see right) Set the 2 switches as shown to create a delay between the system being triggered and the alarm sounding. 4 INSTALLATION INSTALLATION TO ADJUST THE SETTINGS OF THE ALARM - PLEASE REFER TO THE OPERATION STICKER LOCATED ON THE INSIDE OF THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT LID. 8 Connect the pressure pad into the adaptor (see image below). The lead from the sensor pad connects to the sensor adaptor cable Set the desired tone and volume settings. Set the Delay time (see page 5). Set the mute function to the required setting. Please note that as long as your alarm system is connected to your nurse call system it will trigger your nurse call, even if the on-board sounder has been muted. Attach the alarm system to the bed or seat using the positioning strap. Connect the power supply into the socket marked DC6V. Connect the sensor adaptor cable into the Sensor socket. DO NOT CONNECT THE PRESSURE PAD LEAD TO THE NURSECALL SOCKET. USING THE SYSTEM ON A BED 9 Place the mattress pressure pad on the mattress. If using it on a profile bed, make sure you place the pressure pad on the non-moving static section (see image below). 7 Secure the cable with the cable locking device (above left). 6 7

5 INSTALLATION INSTALLATION USING THE SYSTEM ON A CHAIR 10 Place the pressure pad in the centre of the seat cushion. If using a rise recliner chair, make sure that the cable does not get trapped in the chair s mechanism. 15 The alarm system will reset if the patient returns to bed or sits back down, however the nurse call system (if connected) will need to be reset. ALWAYS RESET THE ALARM SYSTEM BEFORE RESETTING THE NURSE CALL SYSTEM PLEASE NOTE: If the mat is disconnected from the alarm, the system will activate and the alarm will sound. CONNECTING TO YOUR NURSE CALL SYSTEM 11 If you wish to connect the alarm to a nurse call system, make sure you have the correct lead. The most common type of lead is either a mono or stereo connection*. This can be identified by counting the number of black rings on the connection end; mono leads have one ring and stereo leads have two. INSTALLING BATTERIES The alarm system can also be powered by batteries (not supplied). 1 2 To install batteries, remove the screw from the rear of the case, and open the battery compartment. Insert 3 new 5V AA batteries, taking care to position correctly *Dependant on your nurse call system you may need another type of lead entirely. If this is the case, please call our office and we will help to identify the specific nurse call lead that you require. Mono Stereo Press the Test/Reset button to reset and check the system is operational. When the patient is placed on the pad the alarm will sound a tone to show that the system has been activated. The Pad in Use light will start to flash. If the user gets out of bed or stands up from the chair the alarm system will sound (if the system has not been muted) and the Test/Reset button will begin to flash. The alarm system will also trigger the nurse call system (if connected)

6 TROUBLE SHOOTING NOTES FAULT CHECK THAT POSSIBLE SOLUTION System appears to have no power. System has power but the alarm does not trigger when the patient gets off the pressure pad. The alarm works correctly but does not trigger the nurse call system The alarm sounder does not work. Check the power supply is plugged in and the switch is turned on. Check the batteries are not discharged and are fi tted correctly. is the pressure pad connected to the sensor socket via the adaptor lead? Fit an alternative pressure pad to test the system. Is the system connected to your nurse call system via a suitable cable? Are you using the correct cable type to connect to your nurse call system? Has the system been set to mute or time delay? Try a different power supply. If the system still does not work contact Harvest Healthcare. Replace the batteries. If the system still does not work contact Harvest Healthcare. Check the connections shown on pages 7-8. Ensure that the pad is plugged into the nurse call socket. If the system does not operate with an alternative pressure pad please contact Harvest Healthcare. If the system does operate you have a faulty pressure pad that requires replacement. Connect the system to your nurse call system. Refer to page 8 to identify the different types of cable. If you need a different cable please contact Harvest Healthcare. Refer to pages 5-6 for instructions of how to set the alarm system
