4 SOME DOS AND DON TS ON THE SAFE USE OF EQUIPMENT This equipment has been designed and manufactured to meet international safety standards but, like any electrical equipment, care must be taken if you are to obtain the best results and safety is to be assured. High temperatures can melt plastic and lead to fires. use makeshift stands and NEVER fix legs with wood screws - to ensure complete safety always fit the manufacturer s approved stand or legs with the fixings provided according to the instructions. use equipment such as personal stereos or radios so that you are distracted from the requirements of traffic safety. listen to headphones at high volume, as such use can permanently damage your hearing. leave equipment switched on when it is unattended unless it is specifically stated that is designed for unattended operation or has a stand-by mode. Switch off using the switch on the equipment and make sure that your family knows how to do this. Special arrangements may need to be made for infirm or handicapped people. continue to operate the equipment if you are in any doubt about it working normally, or if it is damaged in any way switch off, withdraw the mains adapter and consult your dealer. ABOVE ALL NEVER let anyone especially children push anything into holes, slots or any other opening in the case this could result in a fatal electric shock; NEVER guess or take chances with electrical equipment of any kind; it is better to be safe than sorry! 4

5 Used correctly, domestic batteries are a safe and dependable source of portable power. Problems can occur if they are misused or abused resulting in leakage or, in extreme cases, fire or explosion. Here are some simple guidelines to safe battery use designed to eliminate any such problems. ALWAYS ALWAYS BATTERY SAFETY GUIDELINES Take care to fit your batteries correctly, observing the plus and minus marks on the battery and appliance. Incorrect fitting can cause leakage or, in extreme cases, fire or even an explosion. Replace the whole set of batteries at one time, taking care not to mix old and new batteries or batteries of different types, since this can result in leakage or, in extreme cases, fire or even an explosion. ALWAYS ALWAYS NEVER Remove dead batteries from equipment and all batteries from equipment you know you are not going to use for a long time. Otherwise the batteries may leak and cause damage. NEVER ALWAYS ALWAYS Store unused batteries in their packaging and away from metal objects which may cause a shortcircuit resulting in leakage or, in extreme cases, fire or even an explosion. Never dispose of batteries in fire as this can cause them to explode. Please recycle dead batteries; do not put with the normal household waste. Never attempt to recharge ordinary batteries, either in a charger or by applying heat to them. They may leak, cause fire or even explode. There are special rechargeable batteries which are clearly marked as such. Supervise children if they are replacing batteries themselves in order to ensure these guidelines are followed. Remember that small button cell batteries such as used in some hearing aids, toys, games and other appliances, are easily swallowed by young children and this can be dangerous. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS Keep loose button cells away from young children. Make sure battery compartments are secure. Seek medical advice if you believe a cell has been swallowed.

6 Safety Warnings Read all the instructions carefully before using the unit and keep them for future reference. Retain the manual. If you pass the unit onto a third party make sure to include this manual. Check that the voltage marked on the rating label matches your mains voltage. Damage Please inspect the unit for damage after unpacking. Do not continue to operate the unit if you are in any doubt about it working normally, or if it is damaged in any way - switch off, withdraw the mains adapter and consult your dealer. Location of Unit The unit must be placed on a flat stable surface and should not be subjected to vibrations. Do not place the unit on sloped or unstable surfaces as the unit may fall off or tip over. The mains socket must be located near the unit and should be easily accessible. Temperature Avoid extreme degrees of temperature, either hot or cold. Place the unit well away from heat sources such as radiators or gas/electric fires. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and other sources of heat. Naked Flames Never place any type of candle or naked flame on the top of or near the unit. Moisture To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or product damage, do not expose this unit to rain, moisture, dripping or splashing. No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed on the unit. If you spill any liquid into the unit, it can cause serious damage. Switch it off at the mains immediately. Withdraw the mains adapter and consult your dealer. Ventilation To prevent the risk of electric shock or fire hazard due to overheating, ensure that curtains and other materials do not obstruct the ventilation vents. Do not install or place this unit in a bookcase, built-in cabinet or in another confined space. Ensure the unit is well ventilated. Safety Always disconnect the unit from the mains supply before connecting/ disconnecting other devices or moving the unit. Unplug the unit from the mains socket before a lightning storm. Mains Cable Make sure the unit or unit stand is not resting on top of the mains cable, as the weight of the unit may damage the mains cable and create a safety hazard. If the mains cable is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. 6

7 Interference Do not place the unit on or near appliances which may cause electromagnetic interference. If you do, it may adversely affect the operating performance of the unit, and cause a distorted picture or sound. Batteries Keep loose batteries away from young children and make sure that the battery holder tray is secure in the remote control. Seek medical advice if you believe a cell has been swallowed. Please dispose of batteries correctly by following the guidance in this manual. Supervision Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the unit. The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the manual accompanying the unit. Service To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove screws. The unit does not contain any user-serviceable parts. Please leave all maintenance work to qualified personnel. Do not open any fixed covers as this may expose dangerous voltages. Maintenance Ensure to unplug the unit from the power supply before cleaning. Do not use any type of abrasive pad or abrasive cleaning solutions as these may damage the unit s surface. Do not use liquids to clean the unit. 7

Unpacking Remove all packaging from the unit. Retain the packaging. If you dispose of it please do so according to local regulations. 11 AC~7.5V Power Source Mains Power Before use, make sure that the rated voltage of the mains adapter matches your local voltage. 1. This unit operates with a mains adapter (included). 2. Connecting the unit to any other power source may cause damage to the unit. Unwind the mains adapter to its full length. Connect the mains adapter to the DC socket on the side of the unit and a mains socket. Make sure the mains adapter is fully inserted into the mains socket. The unit is now connected and ready to use. 3. To switch the unit off completely, withdraw the mains adapter from the mains socket. To completely disconnect the unit from the mains power, the mains adapter must be disconnected from the mains socket. Pease ensure that the mains socket is readily accessible. 11

12 9V BATTERY Battery Power 1. Slide the back cover to open the battery compartment. 2. Insert one 9V battery (6LR61). Make sure to match the (+) and ( ) ends of the batteries with the (+) and ( ) ends indicated in the battery compartment. 9V BATTERY 3. Close the battery compartment cover. Handling the Batteries Improper or incorrect use of batteries may cause corrosion or battery leakage, which could cause personal injury or damage to property. Install the batteries correctly by following the polarity (+ and ) indications in the battery compartment. Use only the types of the batteries which are indicated in this manual. Do not install new batteries with used ones and do not mix different types of batteries. Do not dispose of the used batteries as domestic waste. Dispose of them in accordance with local regulations. This battery is only for clock operation and alarm memory during power interruption. You cannot listen to the radio with only battery power. 12

13 General Operation Setting the Clock To adjust the time manually, press and hold the time button on the top of the radio. At the same time press the H / M buttons repeatedly to adjust the time hour/minute digits. Alternatively press and hold the H / M buttons to forward the time hour/minute digits. Release the time button to confirm. Setting the Alarm 1. Press and hold the alarm button on the top of the radio. At the same time press the / buttons repeatedly to adjust the H M time hour/minute digits. Alternatively press and hold the / buttons to forward H M the time hour/minute digits. The alarm time will be confirmed when you release the button. 2. For Radio Alarm First tune in to a desired station (see Radio Operation) and then adjust the volume and adjust the Function selector to the RADIO position. The ALARM indicator will show on the display. For Buzzer Alarm Adjust the Function selector to the BUZZ position. The ALARM indicator will show on the display. After setting the alarm, you can press and hold the alarm button to view the alarm time. Adjust the volume before hand when you use the Radio Alarm. 13

14 3. The ALARM indicator will illuminate. The unit will wake up to Radio or Buzzer when the alarm timer reaches the preset time and then shut off automatically after 2 hours. To Disable the Alarm Adjust the FUNCTION selector to the OFF position. The ALARM indicator will disappear. Snooze Function Press the SNOOZE button when the alarm sounds. The alarm will go off and will then sound again in approximately 9 minutes. To turn off the alarm, press the alarm button when the alarm sounds. Snooze Function will stop after 1 hour. The alarm function will still be active the next day. Sleep Timer Setting This function automatically switches the unit to standby after the preset time has elapsed. Adjust the FUNCTION selector to the OFF/RADIO/BUZZ position. Press and hold the sleep button, at the same time press the button to set the sleep time to 1 hour 59 minutes H or the button to adjust the sleep time minute digit. The sleep M timer will be confirmed when you released the buttons. The time begins to count down from the preset time. (Maximum time span of the sleep timer is 1 hour 59 minutes). Press the sleep button to reset the sleep time to 59 minutes. Press the SNOOZE button to turn off the sleep timer. Adjusting the Volume Adjust the sound with the VOLUME control. VOLUME 14

15 Radio Operation 1. Adjust the FUNCTION selector to the ON position. 2. Adjust the AM/FM selector to the desired band (AM/FM). 3. Turn the TUNING control to tune in to a station. TUNING For Better Reception FM: Fully unwind the FM aerial. Extend the FM aerial and place it in the position that sounds best. AM: Reposition the unit to get better AM reception. 15

16 Maintenance Ensure to unplug the unit from the mains socket before cleaning. To clean the unit, wipe the case with a slightly moist, lint-free cloth. Do not use any cleaning fluids containing alcohol, ammonia or abrasives. Do not spray an aerosol at or near the unit. Hints and Tips If a problem does occur, it may often be due to something very minor. The following table contains various tips. Problem Poor FM reception Poor AM reception Clock does not show the correct time. Alarm does not come on at the preset time Cause / Solution Make sure the FM aerial wire is fully extended. Electrical interference in your home can cause poor reception. Move the unit away from them. Rotate the unit horizontally or reposition the unit until the best reception is found. There has been an electrical power interruption and the backup battery is exhausted. Check that the mains adapter is plugged in to the mains socket and the unit. To turn on the RADIO or BUZZ alarm, check the following points: Is the current time correctly set on the time display? Check the ALARM indicator. Is the alarm time correctly set? Check the volume level for Radio alarm. 16
