AL Scope Para 1 ed Should the first paragraph be and/or intervention forces in case of emergency? Kro 1 2nd sentence AL Normative references Amend as necessary. Te An escape plan is not a sign. Change the word signs in panels or boards. te Should we include ISO now that it is published? Amend as necessary. Kro 3.2 Te When the title of the plan has changed into Escape plan, it has to be made clear that the location of first aid equipment and fire fighting equipment has to be part of the plan. So may makes it not clear enough. AL Terms of reference 3.2 and 4 Delete "may". ed Fire-fighting should be hyphenated Amend. Kro 3.3 Ed The wording which is given in 3.3 can cause some misunderstandings. at the place where the user is can mean the place when the user is reading the escape plan. Amend. Kro 4 1st sentence Te The words key elements are used in both sentences with different meanings. The key elements in the first sentence have to be shown on the plan. These are not the key elements from a) to f). The key elements in the second sentence (a f) have to be studied to bring a reflection of them into the plan. Delete the word key in the first sentence. Kro 4 Te An updated plan has to be up-to-date. Delete as verified by site visit. AL 4 Para 2 ed Wording sound could be improved. Change to The purpose of escape route plans is to help people orientate themselves in relation to the planned evacuation escape routes. Kro 4 Te Change escape route plan to escape plan ((3x)). "The purpose of escape plans is to give people a wider perspective of the facility s escape route layouts than the one they are located in. In this way the escape plan compliments " "In principle the escape plan should illustrate the ". Kro 5 Note 2 Te To enlarge stairs or corridors on the plan makes the plan less clear for the user. Other possibilities to insert safety signs see 6 c) Note. The minimum scale for the escape plan detail shall be 1:200. Delete Note 2. AL 5 e te Cannot be a shall as outlines in the first sentence of the clause. Kro 5 e), f), h) Put together into e) because e), f) and h) belong together. e) is not clear Place in a should section or carry out above recommendation and delete shall sentence. e) The recognizability of escape plan panels (or boards) can be achieved in case of failure of the normal lightning by luminated, illuminated or the use of phosphorescent material. If escape plans are to be read under emergency lightning conditions the escape plans shall be illuminated at a minimum of 5 lx by the emergency lightning. For escape plans phosphorescent material shall be classified according to ISO Kro 5 g) Ed g) becomes f) f) The background of an escape plan shall be Kro 5 i) Ed i) becomes g) g) Escape plans shall have standardized formats Kro 5 j) Ed j) becomes h) h) Escape plans shall be up-to-date. Kro 6 b) The information of the minimum header s height is missing in the text. The relation between the characters and the green is very important for the recognizability. Table 1 is not useful. The header s minimum height shall be at least 7 % of the height of the plan. The character height shall be at least 60 % of the header. Delete Table 1. Kro 6 c) Te A safety sign of 5 mm is not recognizable. Delete the sentence in brackets. Kro 6 c) Te Add a Note: "When scale elements like corridors and stairs are too small to incorporate safety signs, the safety signs may be put outside with point and lines." Kro 6 d) Te It is not necessary for a circle to have a minimum diameter of 10 mm. Change 10 mm into 7 mm the same height as the safety sign height. Kro 6 e) Te The thickness of the line width is too big. Change 1,6 mm to 1,0 mm and change 0,6 mm to 0,5 mm. Kro 6 f) Te In some cases it could be useful to change the scale of some escape plans in one building ( e.g. parking areas in the basement). Kro 6 Table 1 Te See comment on 6 b) Delete Table 1. Add new Note 2: "In representation of building conditions it could be necessary to change the scale of the escape plan in a certain facility (e.g. parking areas in the basement floor)." Kro 7.2 Te Streets around the building are missing. Delete "- selectively scale elements, " Kro 7.3 Te The location of all stairs in a facility shall be signed. Delete if the facility has more than one floor Kro 7.3 Te The information that lifts are not to be used in case of fire is already part of the fire safety notice. It makes no sense to put a prohibition sign on an escape plan. AL Te The point of location of the user should not be a safety colour as it implies a meaning that is not relevant here. Kro Te Blue is not a good contrast colour to green (escape route). Better take safety colour yellow. Kro 9 Te The installation height of the escape plan panel (or board) is missing. Kro 9 Te An escape plan is not in every room, also the plans in the rooms of the hotel are not escape plans as mentioned in this standard. Kro 10 1st sentence Te To make sure that escape plans are up-to-date, it is better to add a minimum interval for the inspection. Delete and shall, when required, incorporate a prohibition sign to indicate that the lifts are not to be used. Change colour to a non-safety related colour. "The point of location of the user shall be safety yellow according to ISO " Add a new 2 nd sentence: "Escape plan panels (or boards) shall be installed at a height of approx 1,60 m, measured from the floor to the centre of the panel (or board)." Delete "- in every room, e.g. hotel room". Add: " at regular intervals, at least every 2 years, to ensure " Kro Annex A Te See attached examples on pages 6 and 7 GP Annex A Te See attached notes and examples on pages 8 to 12 1 MB = Member body (enter the ISO 3166 two-letter country code, e.g. CN for China; comments from the ISO/CS editing unit are identified by **) 2 Type of comment: ge = general te = technical ed = editorial NOTE Columns 1, 2, 4, 5 are compulsory. 9 Angela and Willem, Attached are two drawings for our discussion, which should be viewed along side of what Willem sent earlier. Here are the changes (please include this list for our discussion): - Use of the ISO 7010 symbols without modification - Use of a slash mark to indicate the escape route rather than a solid green colour - Only showing the escape routes with arrows (not routes to all exits) - Increased the size of the "You Are Here" dot, first letter caps on the words - Increase the elevators and, on the third floor plan, the stairs for increased visibility of key components - Added the fire phone symbol and, on the third floor plan, the disabled persons assembly point symbol - Added additional assembly points around the building - Changed the direction of the arrow on the bottom exits to correspond to signs - Added openings for doors for most rooms for improved orientation - Added for improved orientation - Removed the dash marks that were part of the "arrow" path so only arrows are used to indicate direction - Enlarged size of plan by changing Legend format and eliminating the First Aid instructions (which are incomplete - they could never include all of the possible first aid instructions that might be needed) - Change "assembly station" to "assembly point" - Question raised by the "Third Floor" plan...to what degree do we show the entire route out, or only the portion of the route that pertains to that floor? The evacuees enter the stairwell and when they get to the ground floor, must they then find another Escape Plan sign? I realize I have taken liberty with Willem's work, but know that this is done for purposes of discussion so the committee can see some alternatives. I expect we will end up making some hybrid of the two in terms of the ideas shown. One big issue that concerns me is how this will be printed in the standard...i think a fold-out page is needed and even that will be small. On that note, how we address the smaller "hotel room door size" escape plans will require another illustration (and possibly here we use the simplified symbols as suggested by Willem). I also think we might want to eliminate all of the symbols on the plan that are NOT on the primary and secondary escape routes (meaning only show these symbols on the "arrowed" routes). I will include a third option here to do just this. As for the text of the standard, the only change I see right now is to change the definition of "escape plan" to "escape and rescue plan" because this is what is discussed throughout the document as if the term means one plan, not two. Kind Regards, Geoffrey
