Identify the main areas of the Health and Safety legislation; Explain who is covered by the Health and Safety at Work Act and the responsibilities they have under the act; Explain COSHH, RIDDOR, noise regulation, manual handling, reporting practices and the Fire Safety Order 2005, smoking regulations; List the most common types of accident or injury in the workplace and identify such hazards; Identify specific Health and Safety risks to drivers and key holders; Recognise the cost of accidents; Identify the different types of safety sign used in the workplace and the information provided on them; Recognise the precautions that can be taken against infectious diseases, and the responses if infected; Identify the types of PPE supplied to protect a security officer. 3 Lesson 3: Risk assessments 1.5 hours Day Aim: To gain an understanding of risk assessments. Learning outcomes: On completion of this lesson trainees will be able to: Explain the fundamentals of risk assessment; Identify the risks associated with entering a site; Explain the principle of a dynamic risk assessment; List key risk indicators when assessing entry to a site; Identify methods for minimising and managing risks; Reporting risk. 4 Lesson 4: Key holding and the law 2.5 hours Day Aim: To discuss the law in England and Wales. Recognise the difference between civil and criminal law; Recognise how SOCPA (2005) affects the key holding officer and define the offences of trespass, aggravated trespass, theft, robbery, burglary, aggravated burglary, assault, criminal damage; State the actions to be taken by a key holding officer on discovering a trespasser; Demonstrate procedures for making an arrest and explain the procedures for holding suspects whilst awaiting the arrival of the authorities. Explain the role of a key holding officer in protecting evidence; Explain what is meant by contamination of evidence and how to avoid contaminating evidence; State the procedures for cordoning off an area, preserving evidence and controlling access into and from a scene of crime; Explain the terms continuity of evidence or chain of custody.
