1 Al Ring s Firematic Collection This is one of many sections that contain information, documents, letters, newspaper articles, pictures, etc. They have been collected and arranged in chronological order. These items were collected, organized and entered into a computerized database by Al Ring with the help of many friends and fellow firefighters. All graphics have been improved to make the resolution as good as possible, but the reader should remember that many came from copies of old newspaper articles. This also applies to other items such as documents, letters, etc. Credit to the source of the documents, photos, etc. is provided whenever it was available. We realize that many items are not identified and regret that we weren t able to provide this information. As far as the newspaper articles that are not identified, 99% of them would have to be from one of three possible sources. The Courier- Journal, The Louisville Times or one of the Voice publications. 2 Explanation Firematic Collection During the 1970 s while I was a member of the St. Matthews Fire Department I collected just about anything connected to the fire service from fire hydrants, fire books, fire marks, decanters, toys, pictures, etc. etc. Even the signs that were on the front of the station at 117 St. Matthews Avenue. I displayed most of these items in my basement which changed as I moved to 3 different locations during the time I had my collection. The following will be pictures I have kept of various parts of my collection but by know means does it cover all of it. Most of these photos were taken in 1974 to After leaving the department and over time (early 1990 s), my interests changed and I sold off most of my collections to who knows who. In away now that I am old I kind of wish I still had it, however I have know clue where I would put it. 2 2
