2 NATIONAL DAY The day 14 th april reminds us about the devastating explosion cum fire, which broke out on april 1944 in a ship namely s.s. fort stikine [containing lubrication oil drums, ammunition and explosives, bales of cotton, heavy timbers scrap iron, old dynamites and wireless ssets in layers etc.] Moored in the victoria dock of mumbai ports. The intensity of explosion followed by a high magnitude of fire spread with lightening speed, across surrounding docks. These fire even engulfed the nearby residential area, also and resulted in hugh toll of valuable life and property before it could be controlled.
