Richardson Item Schedule and Meeting Planning The schedule for the A2011 Cycle was reviewed. The committee selected San Antonio for the ROC meeting on October 5-7, Staff reminded committee members not to make final travel arrangements until a meeting notice is sent out. (Potential exists that the meeting could be via teleconference depending on the workload.) Item Processing of Proposals The committee processed 19 public proposals and 37 committee proposal. Item CO Alarm Signal In conjunction with deliberations over Proposal , the committee recognized a conflict between NFPA 720 and NFPA 72 with regard to the designation and treatment of a CO alarm signal as a supervisory or other type of signal. See and of NFPA and of NFPA The committee recognized that there can be various types of alarm signals (e.g. fire, CO, MNS, burglar) and that some systems being produced do not have the capability to distinguish between different types of alarms, while others do. A task group was formed to address this conflict and prepare a TIA for of NFPA Task group members are Art Black, Shane Clary (chair), Richard Roberts, Rodger Reiswig, Paul Patty, Tom Norton and Bob Schifiliti. This TG will work with the TCC Glossary of Terms TG. Item Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at approximately 4:45 PM on January 27th. Advises that supplemental components may be integrated into single-or-multiple-station carbon monoxide alarms, so as not to limit the components mentioned in the revised definition. 5 720- Log #1 SIG-CAR Technical Correlating Committee on Signaling Systems for the Protection of Life and Property, e The Technical Correlating Committee advises that the proposed revision of is grammatically incomplete and suggests that the words accordance with be added in the lead-in sentence as follows: "Carbon monoxide detectors shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer s published instructions in accordance with (1) and (2) or with (3) [remainder unchanged]. This is a direction from the Technical Correlating Committee on Signaling Systems for the Protection of Life and Property in accordance with and of the Regulations Governing Committee Projects. 2

7 720- Log #3 SIG-CAR Technical Correlating Committee on Signaling Systems for the Protection of Life and Property, a The Technical Correlating Committee recognizes that rewinding or resetting of CO alarms might not be needed but resetting of system-based apparatus might still be applicable. It is suggested that the committee reconsider the action on this proposal to retain the provisions for resetting. This is a direction from the Technical Correlating Committee on Signaling Systems for the Protection of Life and Property in accordance with and of the Regulations Governing Committee Projects. 4

8 720- Log #6 SIG-CAR Jon Woodard, Seward, AK N/A [leave existing text, but revise the following] (1) Where required, immediately retransmit indication of the carbon monoxide alarm signal to the communications center. Retransmission of the carbon monoxide alarm signal may comprise a alarm data signal transmitted via a computer network interface between the supervisory station and the communications center. Encourages the use of the ANSI/APCO External Alarm Interface Information Exchange Packet Documentation ("IEPU") standard developed by the Richmond, VA. Department of Information Technology. The problems to be solved include eliminating manual phone calls from central stations to communications centers, reducing 2-3 minutes of call processing time, information errors, address errors, linguistic issues. IEPD is being adopted by over 100 jurisdictions. 5

9 720- Log #5 SIG-CAR Jon Woodard, Seward, AK Add new text to read as follows: Carbon monoxide alarms may include supplemental components including visual notification appliances, LCD displays, and integrated wireless telecommunications components (e.g. cellular modules, wireless IP networking modules) for transmission of the alarm beyond the dwelling unit to a supervising station or a communications center. Explains a number of supplemental components commonly available in carbon monoxide alarms. The integration of wireless telecommunications components may increase the effectiveness of single-or multiple-station alarms, adding a supplemental function when household alarm/fire/co detection systems are unavailable to a dwelling unit for economic reasons or other factors. 6
