2 Legal bases and general conditions 1 This European Technical Assessment is issued by UBAtc (Union belge pour l'agrément technique de la construction, i.e. Belgian Union for technical Approval in construction), in accordance with: Regulation (EU) No 305/ of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011 laying down harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products and repealing Council Directive 89/106/EEC, as amended; - Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 1062/ of 30 October 2013 on the format of the European Technical Assessment for construction products; - European Assessment Document (EAD): Under the provisions of Regulation (EU) No 305/2011, UBAtc is not authorized to check whether the provisions of this European Technical Assessment are met once the ETA has been issued. 3 The responsibility for the conformity of the performances of the products with this European Technical Assessment and the suitability of the products for the intended use remains with the holder of the European Technical Assessment. 4 Depending on the applicable Assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP) system, (a) notified body(ies) may carry out third-party tasks in the process of assessment and verification of constancy of performance under this Regulation once the European Technical Assessment has been issued. 5 This European Technical Assessment allows the manufacturer of the construction product covered by this ETA to draw up a declaration of performance for the construction product. 6 CE marking should be affixed to all construction products for which the manufacturer has drawn up a declaration of performance. 7 This European Technical Assessment is not to be transferred to other manufacturers, agents of manufacturers, or manufacturing plants other than those indicated on page 1 of this European Technical Assessment. 9 According to Article 11(6) of Regulation (EU) No 305/2011, when making a construction product available on the market, the manufacturer shall ensure that the product is accompanied by instructions and safety information in a language determined by the Member State concerned which can be easily understood by users. These instructions and safety information should fully correspond with the technical information about the product and its intended use, which the manufacturer has submitted to the responsible Technical Assessment Body for the issuing of the European Technical Assessment. 10 Pursuant to Article 11(3) of Regulation (EU) No 305/2011, manufacturers shall adequately take into account changes in the product-type and in the applicable harmonised technical specifications. Therefore, when the contents of the issued European Technical Assessment do not any longer correspond to the product-type, the manufacturer should refrain from using this European Technical Assessment as the basis for their declaration of performance. 11 All rights of exploitation in any form and by any means of this European Technical Assessment is reserved for UBAtc and the ETA-holder, subject to the provisions of the applicable UBAtc regulations. 12 Reproduction of this European Technical Assessment including transmission by electronic means shall be in full. However, partial reproduction can be made with the written consent of UBAtc. In this case partial reproduction has to be designated as such. Texts and drawings of advertising brochures shall not contradict or misuse the European Technical Assessment. 13 Subject to the application introduced, this European Technical Assessment is issued in English and may be issued by the UBAtc in its official languages. The translations correspond fully to the English reference version circulated in EOTA. 14 A European Technical Approval was issued by UBAtc asbl on 17 Augustus Compared with this European Technical Approval, the current European Technical Assessment, issued on 16 April 2018 comprises the following changes: GARDEN ECO 4J CARRÉ, GARDEN ECO 5J CARRÉ, ASSAPLACA STANDARD, ASSAPLACA CASTOR, PLACA HOBBY CUADRADA and PLACA HOBBY REDONDA have been added and are also covered by this ETA. 8 The European Technical Assessment holder confirms to guarantee that the product(-s) to which this assessment relates, is/are produced and marketed in accordance with and comply with all applicable legal and regulatory provisions, including, without limitation, national and European legislation on the safety of products and services. The ETA-holder shall notify the UBAtc immediately in writing of any circumstance affecting the aforementioned guarantee. 3 Technical Provisions 1 Technical description of the product 1.1 General This ETA applies to bitumen shingles with a mass of bitumen (1.035 ± 150) g/m² per layer. It applies to bitumen shingles where the watertightness of the roof covering or wall cladding system is ensured by overlapping, according to the manufacturer s installation instructions (see clause of this ETA), intended to be laid as discontinuous covering for pitched roofs and/or wall cladding. The assumed working life of the product for the intended use is 10 years 3, provided that the assembled product is subject to appropriate use and maintenance, in accordance with clause 2.2 of this ETA. 1.2 Characterisation and dimensions Type GARDEN 5J CARRÉ GARDEN 5J ECO CARRÉ VERSITE ATE 5J GARDEN 5J ÉCAILLE VERSITE ATE 5J ÉCAILLE ASSAPLACA CASTOR PLACA HOBBY REDONDA Mass of bitumen Table 1 (next). The glassfibre mat reinforcement is coated with bitumen. The shingle is surfaced on the upperside (i.e. the side of the shingle, which is exposed to the weather) with mineral granules and on the underside with sand and/or talc. It should only be regarded as a means for specifiers to choose the appropriate criteria for shingles in relation to the expected, economically reasonable working life of the works. Diameter shaft Diameter head 3 mm 10 mm 2 Specification of the intended use(s) in accordance with the applicable EAD The shingles are intended to act as a water-shedding element on walls, ceilings, soffits, and pitched roofs and as a protective covering to the wall structure, ceiling structure or roof deck from weathering elements such as rain, snow, ice, windborne dust, UV radiation and other matters. The minimum pitch of the underlying surface shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications, which are specified in this ETA. Roof surfaces are not accessible without protection and safety assessment. 2.1 Assumptions under which the fitness of the product(s) for the intended use was favourably assessed Manufacturing The European technical assessment is issued for the product on the basis of agreed data/information, deposited with the Technical assessment body, which identifies the product that has been assessed. Changes to the product or production process, which could result in this deposited data/information being incorrect, should be notified to the Technical assessment body enabling the ETA to be adapted accordingly Installation of shingles Installation should be in accordance with the following cornerstones, but shall in any case be in accordance with all relevant legal requirements, as far as applicable in the country of use. The manufacturer's installation guidelines complement the information presented below. The shingles should be nailed diagonal-up on a roof deck which must be smooth, firm, dry, securely fastened and ventilated. This roof deck may be covered with a bituminous underlay in accordance with EN , before installing the shingles. Shingle exposure is function of the roof pitch, but may vary depending on the codes of practice or regulatory provisions in the country of use of the product. Before installing, these provisions should be examined. The roof pitch is between 20% (11 ) and 200% (63 ). The recommended nailing positions are indicated in Figure 4 to Figure 6. In case of large overlapping between two horizontal layers of shingles (> 80 mm), manual sealing with bitumen based mastic or bitumen based cold adhesive is required (see Figure 7 to Figure 9). 5 Figure 4 Installing GARDEN 4J CARRE, GARDEN ECO 4J CARRE, VERSITE ATE 4J CARRE, ASSAPLACA STANDARD, PLACA HOBBY CUADRADA In case of steep slope application (> 200%) or high wind areas extra nails (see Figure 10 to Figure 12) and manual sealing with elastomeric bitumen based mastic are required. In high wind areas of the roof, the tabs of each shingle should be sealed (see figure 4). In high wind areas, for at least the top five courses of the roof, the tabs of each shingle should be sealed. In case of large overlapping between two horizontal layers of shingles (> 80 mm), manual sealing with bitumen based mastic or bitumen based cold adhesive is required (sealing according to Figure 7 to Figure 9). During cold weather application (< +5 C) additional elastomeric bitumen based mastic or cold sealing bitumen based adhesive should be used. The hips and the ridges may be cut from the shingles. 6 In bundles of 16 shingles for ASSAPLACA STANDARD or PLACA HOBBY CUADRADA (provides a roof coverage of about 2,5 m²); In bundles of 20 shingles for MONARTO GARDEN 4J CARRÉ, GARDEN ECO 4J CARRÉ, VERSITE ATE 4J CARRÉ (provides a roof coverage of about 3,1 m²); In bundles of 21 shingles for GARDEN 5J CARRÉ, GARDEN ECO 5J CARRÉ or VERSITE ATE 5J CARRÉ (provides a roof coverage of about 3,0 m²); In bundles of 22 shingles for 5J ÉCAILLE VERSITE ATE 5J ÉCAILLE, ASSAPLACA CASTOR or PLACA HOBBY REDONDA (provides a roof coverage of about 3,0 m²). The bundles are palletized and wrapped with plastic foil. These pallets can be transported. When stored, the shingles should be protected from direct sunlight. The pallets should not be stacked on top of each other Recommendations on use, maintenance and repair Damaged shingles should be replaced as soon as possible. 3 Performance of the product and references to the methods used for its assessment 3.1 Safety in case of Fire Reaction to fire The performance of the shingles has not been assessed External fire performance of roofs The shingles have an external fire performance classification class FROOF according to EN Hygiene, Health and the Environment Release of dangerous substances The manufacturer provided a declaration confirming compliance of the shingles with all relevant European and national provisions 6 applicable for the uses for which they are brought to the market. In addition to this ETA clause relating to dangerous substances, there may be other requirements applicable to the products falling within its scope (e.g. transposed European legislation and national laws, regulations and administrative provisions). 7 4 Assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP) system applied, with reference to its legal base In accordance with Regulation (EU) N 305/2011, Article 65, Directive 89/106/EEC is repealed, but references to the repealed Directive shall be construed as references to the Regulation. The systems of assessment and verification of constancy of performance, specified in the Decisions of the Commission 98/436/EC and 98/437/EC of the European Commission 7, as amended, are specified in the following Table.
