1 ADMINISTRATOR S WEEKLY REPORT # May 5 th through 11 th, 2014 CALLS FOR SERVICE % This Week 2014 YTD Change Fire % Aid % Other % Total % Last Week: Administrator Robertson supported the Spokane Valley Fire assessment center for their Battalion Chief eligibility list on Tuesday, May 6 th at the Spokane Fire Regional Training Center. On Wednesday, May 7 th, Administrator Robertson attended the Board Meeting and training session for the Washington Cities Insurance Authority in Yakima, which is a requirement for the VRFA. From Wednesday, May 7 th to Friday, May 9 th, Administrator Robertson attended the Association of Washington Cities annual Labor Relations Institute in Yakima. This Week: Command Staff will hold their monthly training session and meeting on Tuesday, May 13 th at Headquarters Station 31. Senior Staff will hold their weekly meeting on Tuesday, May 13 th at Headquarters Station 31. The Civil Service Commission will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 13 th at Auburn City Hall. The Finance Committee and Board of Governance will hold their monthly meetings on Tuesday, May 13 th at Headquarters Station 31. VRFA personnel will join the greater Auburn community on Friday, May 16 th at Memorial Stadium for the annual Relay for Life walk to fund cancer research. IAFF Local 1352 is a longstanding sponsor of the event. 1

2 Administrator Robertson and Director Horaski will be volunteering Saturday, May 17 th and Sunday, May 18 th for the Auburn Rotary Scholarship Fund annual concert on Saturday, May 17 th. The event raises funds for college scholarships for Auburn School District students. 911 Requests for Services / Customer Service: Vehicle Fire: (Lakeland Hills) On Monday, May 5 th at 6:10 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to reports of a vehicle on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found vehicle s engine had overheated. Dumpster Fire: (Auburn) On Tuesday, May 6 th at 11:57 p.m., firefighters responded to a dumpster fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex in south Auburn. The fire was discovered by a police unit who was patrolling the area. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire preventing damage to surrounding parked vehicles. The cause of the fire is undetermined. Aid Call: (Pacific) On Wednesday, May 7 th at 10:03 a.m., firefighters responded to a female patient who fell, possibly fracturing her ankle. The patient was evaluated by firefighters and then transported to an area hospital via private ambulance. Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Thursday, May 8 th at 1:17 p.m., firefighters and King County Medics responded to a possible stroke with additional cardiac symptoms. The patient was evaluated, stabilized and transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC) by private ambulance. Aid Call: (Auburn) On Friday, May 9 th at 12:28 p.m., firefighters assisted a young adult female experiencing general weakness. The patient was treated at the scene and was transported to a local hospital by private ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. Aid Call: (Algona) On Saturday, May 10 th at 7:59 a.m., firefighters were called to assist an elderly diabetic female whose family members stated she had a decreased level of consciousness. The patient was transported to MAMC by private ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. Service Call: (Lakeland Hills) On Sunday, May 12 th at 5:00 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a broken water main. Firefighters found a broken pipe in a valve box and closed the valve. The City of Bonney Lake water department arrived on scene to close the water valve in the street for repair. 2

This week we will continue the inspection program in Northwest and Downtown Auburn. Assistant Fire Marshal Lee, Deputy Fire Marshal Stewart, and Deputy Fire Marshal Rogers attended the regional fire investigator conference in Leavenworth this week. Deputy Fire Marshal Upton mentored FF Aaron Walker with the FMO modules in his JATC manual. Building Plan Reviews: The City of Auburn submitted 12 sets of plans for review; the City of Pacific had 0 project(s) to review, and the City of Algona had 0 plan(s) for review. Ilako, Dick Scobee, Evergreen, Holy Family and Lakeland Hills Elementary received classroom visits. Stories were edited and submitted along with photos for the next edition of the Fire Watch. Posts were made to the VRFA Facebook and Twitter pages. PIEO staff met with PIE Team members and Firefighter Reed Astley to review the current Think Again drinking and driving program taught in the high schools, and recommend updates and changes to reflect current trends in car crashes involving teens. Fire Investigation: There were no calls for service for SKFITF Fire Investigators this week. 4

5 Planning and Logistics P&L received two apparatus and five facility and small tool maintenance requests. BC Day met with IT Manager Jim Smith regarding P&L s intranet site. VRFA staff use content accessed on the intranet to request supplies, report maintenance needs, and to conduct inventories. The goal of this meeting was to consolidate this content in one user-friendly space on the intranet. 5
