3 Sentient Downloader D INTRODUCTION The downloader programme allows programming of the Dycon Sentient D4800 control unit. It enables programming of the communication functions and also various operational functions. You can either programme the Non Volatile Memory (NVM) chip via an interface adapter or remotely using a modem. NOTE: depending upon how this programming software has been issued, it may have the following restrictions: - The installation software may have an Install by date - All telephone numbers may be automatically prefixed with the local country code, e.g. +44, NOTE: for additional information on some functions that can be programmed, see the Dycon Sentient D4800 Technical Manual. 2. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION The CD-ROM supplied will have the following directory: D4854 Dycon Sentient Using Explore or the Start menu, select D4854 directory and activate SETUP.EXE. After installation, the Dycon launcher should be on your desktop. 2.1 Software Key Codes When the software is supplied, you will also receive Key Code information. The User name, Organisation and Product Key have to be entered the first time that the software is used. NOTE: The software may have an Install by date after which time the programming software cannot be installed. In this case, new key codes have to be obtained from Dycon. 4 2.2 Windows Software Versions If this software is to be used with any of the following Windows versions, only the USB programming pod can be used: NOTE: ME NT 2000 XP A. If the Windows version in use does not have the required USB driver, go into the DRIVER directory on the CD-ROM. Open the file FTDIBUS.INF and follow the onscreen instructions. B. Windows XP If the PC does not recognise the USB programming pod, proceed as follows: - From the START menu, select the CONTROL PANEL, then select PERFORMANCE & MAINTENANCE. Select SYSTEM, then select the HARDWARE tab, then press the DEVICE MANAGER button. Double click PORTS, then double click USB SERIAL PORT, then the PORT SETTING tab. - Press the ADVANCED button and locate the COM PORT NUMBER box. Choose a port number that is not used. The port selected must be 16 or lower. Click to highlight it, click the OK button. Close all windows by the OK or Close buttons. C. If the software does not automatically detect the programming pod, select SETTINGS, then select PROGRAMMER and select the required function. 3. HARDWARE SETUP Depending upon your requirements, set up your programming as follows: 3.1 NVM Adapter Programming Connect the programming USB programming pod to a USB port of the PC. Ensure the NVM with the DOT or Notch is at the top ONLY fit the NVM into the bottom 4 holes. Use the lever to hold the NVM into the green socket. D0355 Programmer If using Windows 98 and the parallel pod, connect to the parallel port of the PC (LPT1). 5 3.2 Remote Modem Programming To carry out remote programming, a PSTN or ISDN modem is required. See section 9 for setting / selection of port or modem. 3.3 Country and Language Settings 1) From the FILE menu, select International. 2) In the International screen, select Country and Language as required. 3.4 Country Dialling Codes When programming the Alarm Receiving Centre or SMS telephone numbers, the country code has to be programmed in as part of the number ie +44, +33, For example, to call : - UK would be France would be Germany would be D4854 Sentient Downloader Manual - D4854DM/09G/v1 5

OPERATION MAIN SCREEN Start the downloader software and the main screen will be displayed: 4.1 File Options Fig. 1 NVM programming may be saved to the PC s hard disc for reference or customised defaults. Files will be saved with the extensions *.PRM. OPEN Will allow a previous programming file to be opened. SAVE Will save the current programming configuration (providing a File Name already exists). FILE NAME Is the name of the currently open file. NOTE: To save unnamed programming to disc, use the Windows commands File, Save As <type in file name required>. 4.2 NVM Options The following functions apply to the NVM chip fitted into the programming adapter. READ NVM This function will read the contents of an NVM, including any peripheral detection devices that have been programmed into the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm. PROGRAMME NVM This function will programme the NVM with the parameters programmed on the PC. NOTE: if detector programming is to be kept, read the NVM before changing the options. COMPARE NVM This function will compare the contents of the NVM with the parameters selected on the PC screens. D4854 Sentient Downloader Manual - D4854DM/09G/v1 6

7 4.3 Online This function selects the remote up / downloading to a Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit via a modem. 4.4 Site Data This function allows site data to be recorded and stored with the Saving of the programming to a file on the PC. NOTE: this information is not stored in the NVM. 4.5 Hex Edit This function is an engineering tool and would not normally be used. 5. OPERATION CALLING INFO SCREEN From the main Menu screen (Fig. 1), select NUMBERS this will bring up the Calling Info screen (Fig. 3). With reference to the GSM programming (Fig. 2). 5.1 Connect via Gateway Fig. 2 If this option is visible, leave it blank for PSTN, GSM and ISDN connected ARCs. Select this if the ARC receives the alarm transmissions via a gateway from another network, e.g. GSM to VDN. 5.2 RLP Radio Link Protocol This may be available on your GSM network. It is recommended that this feature is not normally selected for alarm reporting to an ARC. No benefit will be gained seconds may be added to the reporting times. 8 RLP Radio Link Protocol (continued) NOTE: on some GSM networks, the RLP mode may need to be selected. Either contact the network provider or carry out tests with the RLP turned on / off. 5.3 ISDN Connection Select this if the ARC receives its alarm calls via the ISDN network. Leave it blank if the ARC receives its alarm calls via the PSTN. Where the ARC receives its alarm call via the GSM network, check how their GSM radio module is set up (ISDN or PSTN type). 5.4 V22bis Select to use optional 2400 baud data rate rather than the standard 9600 baud rate. Most GSM networks do not offer a baud rate. 5.5 Numbers 1 and 2 Number 1 this is the first telephone number at the ARC that the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm will call via the GSM network. A telephone number must be entered here when ARC reporting is required. Number 2 this is the second telephone number at the ARC that the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm will call via the GSM network. The entry of a telephone number here is optional when ARC reporting is required. 5.6 Connecting via GATEWAY (UK only) Connect via Gateway - where a gateway exists between the GSM network and another network that carries alarms to the ARC, it is necessary to select this option. Leave blank when the ARC receives transmissions from the PSTN, ISDN or GSM network. An example of a gateway is the communication link between the Vodafone GSM network and the Vodafone VDN network in the UK. Gateway Number - this identifies the gateway from the GSM network onto another network. NUAs 1 this is the first Gateway connected number that the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm will call via the GSM network. NUAs 2 this is the second Gateway connected number that the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm will call via the GSM network (if programmed). D4854 Sentient Downloader Manual - D4854DM/09G/v1 8

9 Fig Account Number Account Number sets the account number (sometimes called the chip number) that identifies the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit when the alarm is transmitted to an ARC (may be 4, 5 or 6 digits). An account number must be entered here when ARC reporting is required. Account Number, +1 this button simply increments the number shown and is helpful if you are programming several NVMs with sequential numbers. NOTE: check with the ARC on the number of digits that must be programmed (some will only take 4 or 6). 5.8 Siren Rearm Count This function sets the number of times that the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm s Siren will operate. This is used to stop noise pollution for multiple alarms. For example, if set to 3, the siren will operate 4 times (1 + 3) although the unit will continue to transmit new alarms to the ARC / SMS until put back to standby. 10 5.9 Miscellaneous Settings Silent Entry select to disable the entry/exit sounder in the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit. SMS Confirm to confirm reception of SMS messages sent to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit. It can echo all SMS messages back to the sending GSM phone. Select to enable this echo function. Radio Supervision tick to enable supervision of the radio detectors. With this option enabled, the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit will monitor test transmissions (approx every 20 minutes) from each detector. If a detector test transmission is not received for approx 90 minutes, a Zone Supervision signal will be transmitted (in standby and active modes). This will give indication of a faulty or missing detector. Enable LEDs select to activate the LEDs at all times. De-select to ensure all LEDs are off when the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit is in active mode (LEDs only on during Standby Mode). NOTE: The LEDs will be blanked when the unit goes into lower Power Mode Jamming Fig. 4 shows the programming for radio jamming. Fig. 4 Almost all environments will have a background radio noise, which will vary with time. The Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm systems rely upon radio signals from their detectors. Therefore, the monitoring of background radio noise is important. When the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm systems are in the Armed Mode, a Jamming signal can be transmitted to the ARC / SMS if the background radio noise exceeds the programmed level continually for a programmed time. In Walk Test mode, the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit can show if the background noise exceeds the programmed level within 10 seconds. The Window sets the time delay in Armed Mode before a Jamming signal is transmitted. The default value for this is 30 x 10S seconds (5 minutes). The Level sets the threshold before a Jamming signal is transmitted (Armed State) or displayed in Walk Test. The default setting of 2 for the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm should be acceptable for most installations. NOTE: Increasing the level will reduce the effective range of the detectors, ie the higher the level setting, the closer the detectors will need to be to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm. 11 5.11 Timers Exit Time sets the time (in seconds up to 99) after the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit is moved to the Armed position, and before it enters the fully Armed State. This allows the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm operator to arm the system and leave the premises prior to the alarm becoming active. Entry Time sets the time (in seconds up to 99) after the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit has detected someone triggering the Entry zone, before a full alarm is generated. This allows the operator to enter the premises via the entry door while the alarm is active, and to unset the system by moving control to the Standby State without causing an alarm to be generated. Test Call sets the time (in hours up to 99) between automatically generated test calls to the ARC and / or the SMS phones. These calls confirm the continued operation of the equipment and reporting path. 00 = no automatic Test Calls generated. Bell Delay sets the time (in multiples of 10 seconds up to 980) between an alarm condition being detected and the system siren/bell beginning to sound. After the alarm is transmitted to the ARC and / or GSM phones, this delay can allow security staff to respond before intruders are alerted to the fact that they have been detected. NOTE: If you programme 99, the bell output will never operate. In addition, zone re-arm will not be activated (also see section 10.1 Bell on control). Bell Time sets the time (in multiples of 10 seconds up to 990) that the system siren/bell will sound. Carrier Loss sets the detection time (in minutes up to 99) of radio path failure (only if no power saving mode). Zone Omit See following Section Call Routing and Format Alarm signals out of the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit can be selected and directed to different destinations (See section ). You have 2 columns to programme GSM and SMS: - The GSM column is for selecting which alarm signals are sent to the ARC - The SMS column is for selecting which alarm signals are sent as text messages NOTES: - Mains Fail only select this function if the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit is connected to a mains supply (via charger) and if the mains supply needs to be monitored - Battery Low it is recommended that this is always selected. 12 Dualcom 96 Format The Dualcom 96 Format is a GSM data format transmission it is equivalent to Fast Format transmissions and will only provide basic alarm signals. NOTE: it has been modified to work over the GSM DATA channel and, therefore, will not communicate with standard alarm receiving equipment Receiver Types The Dycon Sentient D4800 range of GSM alarms can transmit alarm information to the following type of receivers QUASAR Receiver The QUASAR receiver will take 4 line inputs which may be a mixture of analogue or ISDN lines. It can receive alarm information in Dualcom 96 format. This receiver can be obtained from Dycon upon request. 6. ZONE OMIT FUNCTION When the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit is in the active mode, zones may be omitted (deactivated) by use of the hand remote control unit (individual zones can be omitted in any combination). Zones may be omitted for a pre-set period (timed) or may be omitted for an unlimited period of time. For a full explanation of the Zone Omit function, refer to the Dycon Sentient D4800 Technical Manual (Operation Zone Omit section). If the Zone Omit function is not required, enter 0 into the programming box. If a Timed Zone Omit is required, enter any number between 1 and 98. The number entered will provide the Timed Zone Omit function for the time programmed in the box, in minutes for example, if 60 is programmed, the zone(s) will be omitted for 60 minutes (1 hours). 13 7. OPERATION ZONE CONFIGURATON SCREEN From this menu, the internal PIR and zones 1 and 2 can be programmed for function. The functions operate as follows: Fig. 6 Normal If this function is selected, upon detection of an alarm condition, the system will go into an instant alarm condition in the active mode. Final Exit If this function is selected, upon detection of an alarm condition, the Entry Timer will be started. This will allow time for the user to enter the protected area and turn the system to standby mode. Entry Route When this function is selected, if the Entry Timer has been started (by detection on a Final Exit Zone), it will be inactive during the period of the entry time (walk through zone). If, however, this zone detects an alarm condition before the Entry Timer has started, an instant alarm will be generated. NOTES: - The system can have any combination of the above; - If the Internal Zone is NOT enabled, Zone 0 internal detection inputs will not work. D4854 Sentient Downloader Manual - D4854DM/09G/v1 13

14 8. OPERATION SMS TEXT PROGRAMMING SCREEN From the main Menu screen (Fig. 1), select SMS. This will bring up the SMS Programming screen (Fig. 7): Fig. 7 This window is used to preset the messages that the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit can send using the Short Message Service (SMS) to a GSM phone. This feature enables persons (eg the site owner and the local key holder) to receive a text message on their GSM mobile phone display when the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit is triggered. Most GSM service providers supply an SMS message service. Some do not allow GSM phones to send SMS messages they can only receive them. Check with your GSM service provider about the SMS service that they offer. If necessary, change your GSM service provider to one that provides the services you require. Some GSM service providers provide an SMS broadcast service. You send one SMS message to one mobile phone number and the GSM service provider automatically sends the message to (up to) 100 mobile phones. Contact your GSM service provider for more information. SMS messages to a mobile phone will be sent following the alarm transmission to the ARC for those messages that are active. An SMS message can be sent to a GSM phone without a corresponding alarm transmission to an ARC. Some GSM network providers supply a transport service to fax machines for SMS text messages. 15 OPERATION SMS TEXT PROGRAMMING SCREEN (continued) Several different messages may be stored and sent, one for each alarm input. In addition, warning messages may be sent in response to test calls, power failure and low battery voltage events. Each SMS message that is sent to a GSM mobile phone consists of 3 parts. Part 1 = the site address to identify one particular Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit Part 2 = the input description, one for each input Part 3 = the input action, triggering or restore For example, if the whole SMS message sent to a GSM phone is: Bloggs Ltd Intruder system Alarm Then Part 1 = Bloggs Ltd Part 2 = Intruder system Part 3 = Alarm The SMS screen allows you to select GSM phone numbers for the SMS and all 3 parts of the SMS messages. Telephone Numbers enter the telephone number(s) for the GSM mobile telephone(s) that the SMS messages are to be sent to. Do not put spaces between the numbers. One or two phone numbers may be entered. For international dialling, you may programme 0044 or +44 (to dial into the UK). NOTE: in some countries, sending text messages internationally is not always possible. If in doubt, check by making a test call before installation of the alarm equipment. Message Centre enter the SMS Message Centre telephone number here if it is not in the SIM Card. Most GSM service providers put their Message Centre number in the SIM Card when they supply it. In this case, leave the box blank. Any number entered here will overwrite the Message Centre number in the SIM Card. Site Address enter part 1 of the SMS message to identify this particular Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit (up to 23 characters). Input Description enter part 2 of the SMS message (up to 16 characters). Each is a description of an input to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit, e.g. Intruder Alarm, Fire... You need only provide descriptions for those inputs selected to send SMS messages to GSM phones. Alarm Message 1 enter part 3 of the SMS message (up to 8 characters most users use the default words). These are used with all messages except the Arm/Unset message. Restore Message 1 - as Alarm Message 1. Alarm Message 2 - enter part 3 of the SMS message (up to 8 characters most users use the default words). These words are only used with the Arm/Unset message. Restore Message 2 as Alarm Message 2. 16 9. OERATION ONLINE MODEM SETUP SCREEN From the main Menu screen (Fig. 1), select SETTINGS this will bring up the Modem Setting screen (Fig. 8). Fig. 8 Port the serial COM ports displayed in the window are those available on the PC. Select the serial COM port that the modem or GSM Radio Module is connected to. Initialisation String - the modem or GSM Radio Module connected to the programmer s PC for remote up/downloading often needs an initialisation string to preset its operation. An initialisation string may be entered in the Initialisation boxes. Start in box 1 and continue onto 2, 3 etc... for a very long string. You will need to refer to the Modem Installation Manual. Where possible, use the initialisation string to force the modem to start its speed negotiation at 9600 or baud. This will reduce downloading time. It will be necessary to select Auto-answer if Call-back is selected for up/downloading security. NOTE: an initialisation string will not normally be required on a PC with a recognised PSTN modem because Windows set-up stores information on all popular modems. However, this set-up information may be required for a GSM Radio Module because the PC is unlikely to store data on current GSM Radio Modules. Refer to the GSM Radio Module Installation Manual. Show Communications Log tick this box to display a text log of all data sent to and from the modem when it is operating. This is only normally required during installation or fault finding. 17 10. OPERATION ONLINE FUNCTIONS From the Main menu screen (Fig. 1), select ONLINE this will bring up the Online Functions screen (Fig. 6). This window is used when accessing a Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit remotely (upload and download) to either program or to obtain diagnostic information. The Online screen has three parts: - Select Up/download to activate the up/downloading - Select Diagnostics for housekeeping and fault finding functions - Select Security for up/downloading security features 10.1 ONLINE (Sentient RANGE) Screen Figure 9 below shows the Online Functions, Up/download screen. Fig. 9 The following Online functions can be programmed from this window: Site GSM Number enter the GSM telephone number of the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit that is to be contacted (up to 20 digits). This number is not downloaded to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit. It is stored in the.prm file on this programmer s PC. Where a PSTN modem is used for downloading, it may be necessary to add a 3-second pause between dialled digits or to make the modem detect a dial tone before dialling. Refer to the modem manual. Most modems use the Hayes dialling standard enter a comma for the 3-second pause and a W for dial tone detection. For example, after dialling a 9 for PSTN connection from a PABX, a 3-second pause should be added before dialling the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit. Abort immediately cancels an upload or download operation. Read from Dycon Sentient contact the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit and read the contents of its NVM into this program. 18 ONLINE (Sentient RANGE) screen (continued) Send to Dycon Sentient D4800 contact the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit and send the current parameters from this program to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit s NVM. Set push to send an Arm command to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit. This will make it Arm immediately with no Exit Time. Unset push to send an Unset command to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit. This will make it Unset immediately with no Entry Time. Bell On push to send a command to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit that will cause the Bell Output to come on for the programmed time (in active or standby modes) ONLINE (Diagnostics) Screen Figure 10 on page 19 shows the Diagnostics screen. Diagnostic details will be obtained from the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit and displayed every time that data is sent to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit or data is read from the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit by up/downloading, and whenever the Get Diagnostic Information button is pushed. The following online functions can be operated from this window: GSM Downtime any failure of GSM carrier signal is logged in the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit. This displays (in hours) the total failed time since installation or this timer was last reset to zero. NOTE: only is power saving is turned off. Send Test commands the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit to send a test message to the ARC and/or by SMS to the GSM phones. Test messages must be selected for this to occur (see Fig. 3). 19 ONLINE (Diagnostics) screen (continued) Fig. 10 The following Diagnostic data can be read from this window: Signal Strength this shows the strength of the GSM signal by number and horizontal bar. The number indicates a strength between 0 (minimum) and 31 (maximum). The bar chart indicates the same values. A reading below 10 is weak, 11 to 20 is normal and above 21 is a strong signal. A varying or a low reading indicates radio strength or reflection problems try re-siting the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit with its internal or external aerial. NOTE: This signal strength number is only an indication. Strength 6 may be the best that can be achieved at the site, and this can be sufficient for reliable communications. Always trigger several test calls to ensure reliable system operation. D4854 Sentient Downloader Manual - D4854DM/09G/v1 19

20 10.3 ONLINE (Security) screen Figure 11 shows the Security screen. The Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit has two independent methods of stopping unauthorised up/downloading. Either or both may be employed. These security features are for Up/Downloading only. They are not active when the Programming Socket is used to read or write an NVM after it has been removed from the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit. Fig. 11 A call-back telephone number may be programmed so that the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit always calls to its present call-back engineering number when up/downloading. Secondly, a 6-digit access code may be programmed. In addition, up/downloading can be inhibited when the alarm system is in the Armed state. NOTE: These Up/Downloading security features are NOT activated when the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit is supplied. Use of one or more features is recommended. The Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit can be Armed and Unset by sending it an SMS message. Refer to the Dycon Sentient D4800 Technical Manual for details of SMS control. If this feature is enabled, the 6-digit Access Code must be programmed. The following parameters can be set from this window: Secure Access this is a security access code for up/downloading. If required, tick the box and enter the 6-digit access code for remote uploading and downloading. Note that the code must be 6 digits long, or blank. To change an access code in an NVM fitted to the NVM Programming Socket, simply change the number displayed. To change the access code by downloading: 1. Enter the current access Code, select the Secure Access box and read the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm NVM by pressing the Read from Sentient button 2. De-select the Secure Access box. Do not change the code displayed. Send the data to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm by pressing Send to Sentient button D4854 Sentient Downloader Manual - D4854DM/09G/v1 20

Select the Secure Access box, enter the new access Code, then send the data to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm by pressing Send to Sentient button Call-back this is secure call-back for downloading. If required, tick the box and enter the telephone number of the Modem / ISDN / GSM Radio Module connected to the PC that is using the Dycon Sentient D4800 downloader software. When call-back is active and an up/download is required, the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit will terminate the requesting call and then initiate a new call to the call-back number. The Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm will expect the Downloader Programme to be ready to receive the incoming call at the call-back number. If this fails, no further attempts will be made until a new request is made by the Dycon Sentient D4800 Downloader Programme. NOTE: call-back will not occur when requesting Diagnostic information. Prevent download when Set prohibits downloading when the alarm system is Armed. ISDN Download select this box if the PC used for up/downloading is connected to the ISDN. For all other up/downloading communication options, leave this box blank. 11. POWER MANAGEMENT SCREEN Figure 12 below shows the Power Management screen. Fig. 12 When the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit is operating on its internal batteries, its operational life is directly proportional to the power that is being drawn from those batteries. Battery life can be considerably extended by powering down many of the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit s circuits and only switching them on when an alarm needs to be transmitted. However, all of the alarm and tamper detection circuits remain in full operation at all time. When Low Power Mode is selected in the NVM and power is off, the GSM radio and associated circuits will only be powered when sending alarm calls to the ARC, or SMS messages to mobile phones. During this power-off period, SMS messages cannot be received by the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit and up/downloading using the downloader programme will not work. 22 POWER MANAGEMENT SCREEN (continued) To allow SMS control of the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit to operate when power saving is active, it is necessary to occasionally power the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit to normal power for one minute. During this period, SMS messages that are sorted at the GSM Network Provider Message Centre will be passed to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit and processed. Any SMS control messages will be delayed until the new power up by the alarm, when it will receive them. Allow Up/Downloading using the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm s downloader programmer when power saving is active, an SMS message should first be sent to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm commanding it to go to normal power for 30 minutes. During periods of normal power, up/downloading using the downloader programmer will be possible. Refer to the Dycon Sentient D4800 Technical Manual for details of SMS control. The current taken from the battery increases both when the unit is in alarm condition and when the unit is sending GSM signals. Unset, Power Off set the time (in minutes) that the DYCON Sentient D4800 alarm unit is powered down during the Unset state. During this period, up/downloading is NOT possible from the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm s downloader programmer and SMS messages CANNOT be received. All other detection and alarm transmission functions are active. This period uses a minimum of battery power. Good Battery Threshold set the voltage below which a low battery voltage state will be transmitted to the ARC and/or GSM phones. This should normally be left at the default value of 10.5V. Guide to this setting With the battery drained to10.5 volts and a test call made every 8 hours and with power saving as 1/98 in Armed mode then, for a Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm (fitted with 2 x 7 Ahr batteries), in Armed mode, the unit can be expected to send test calls for at least 5 days before it ceases to work due to low batteries. 23 12. SITE DATA SCREEN Figure 13 below shows the Site Data screen. Fig. 13 This window is used to record any information about the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit and its installation. There are fields for name, address and telephone number of the site where the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit is installed. However, any information about the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit and the installation can be entered in this window. This information is not downloaded to the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit. It is stored in the.prm file on this PC (see Section 4.1). 13. EDIT SYSTEM SCREEN Figure 14 below shows the Edit System screen. Fig. 14 This window is used to set / read various parameters. Attempt Duration this sets the time that the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit stays online waiting for communication with the ARC. The default value of 45 seconds should cater for most networks. Number of Attempts this sets the number of attempts that the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm unit makes in trying to communicate with the ARC and SMS message centre. This counter is reset for every new transmission sequence. Signal Thresholds these are not applicable on the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm system. SIM Pin Code if the SIM card needs a PIN number to become active, enter it here. NVM Identifier this is a check number when reading NVMs from the programming pod. Software Version this will show the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm s software version if reading an NVM that has been removed from a Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm control unit. GSM Enabled this should always be left on. If it is turned off, the GSM function of the Dycon Sentient D4800 alarm will be deactivated. Radio Low Power Enabled this should always be left on as it will give maximum power saving from the batteries. 14. PROGRAMMING OF SIREN NVM This software can be used to programme the NVM used in the Dycon Sentient D4800 remote Radio Siren. Only the following can be programmed: Bell / Siren Safety Cut-off Time for programming this function on the Bell / Siren unit, see section 5.11 (use the Bell Time Menu). As the system is radio-based, it may be possible in some extreme conditions for the Bell / Siren unit to receive an ON command, but not an OFF command. This setting will set a maximum time that the bell / siren can operate under these conditions. Low Battery Point / Report for programming this function, see Section 11 Good Battery Threshold.
