12 Project Initiation Notification System (PINS) Standards Action - May 11, Page 12 of 22 Pages ANSI Procedures require notification of ANSI by ANSI-accredited standards developers (ASD) of the initiation and scope of activities expected to result in new or revised American National Standards (ANS). Early notification of activity intended to reaffirm or withdraw an ANS and in some instances a PINS related to a national adoption is optional. The mechanism by which such notification is given is referred to as the PINS process. For additional information, see clause 2.4 of the ANSI Essential Requirements: Due Process Requirements for American National Standards. Following is a list of proposed actions and new ANS that have been received recently from ASDs. Please also review the section in Standards Action entitled "American National Standards Maintained Under Continuous Maintenance" for additional or comparable information with regard to standards maintained under the continuous maintenance option. To view information about additional standards for which a PINS has been submitted and to search approved ANS, please visit which is a database of standards information. Note that this database is not exhaustive. Directly and materially affected interests wishing to receive more information or to submit comments are requested to contact the standards developer directly within 30 days of the publication of this announcement. BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association) Office: 1201 New York Avenue, N.W. Suite 300 Washington, DC Contact: David Johnston Fax: (202) djohnston@boma.org BSR/BOMA Z x, Standard Methods for Measuring Floor Area in Industrial Buildings (new standard) Stakeholders: Building owners, industrial and office realtors, building managers, facilities managers. Project Need: In the late 1990s, the real estate industry recognized the need for a standard that fairly accounts and allocates floor area in industrial buildings. This project will fulfill this vital need for the real estate industry. The completed standard will be used to measure floor area on both existing and new industrial buildings. The standard will allow comparison of values on the basis of generally agreed upon methods of measurement for industrial buildings. The standard will take a building-wide approach to measurement, fairly accounting for the allocation of space that benefit all tenants while providing a common basis for the measurement of floor area in a tenant area. CSA (CSA America, Inc.) Office: 8501 East Pleasant Valley Road Cleveland, OH Contact: Allen J. Callahan Fax: (216) al.callahan@csa-america.org; BSR/CSA LC 7-200x, Pipe Joint Sealing Compounds and Materials (new standard) Stakeholders: Users, manufacturers, gas suppliers and certifying agencies. Project Need: To create new standard for safety for pipe joint sealing compounds. Details test and examination criteria for pipe joint sealing compounds including paste, semi-liquid or liquid type, and polymeric tape intended for sealing threaded joints on metal piping having NPT-tapered threads. ITI (INCITS) (InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards) Office: 1250 Eye Street, NW Suite 200 Washington, DC Contact: Barbara Bennett Fax: (202) bbennett@itic.org BSR/INCITS Project 1860-D-200x, Information technology - Application Profile - Interoperability and Data Interchange - Biometrics for E-Authentication (new standard) Stakeholders: Biometrics in authentication applications. Project Need: To create biometric application profile standards that define a set of base standards and the criteria for applying those standards in applications of biometrics for e-authentication. Supports the deployment of biometric technologies in e-authentication applications. The proposed standard s goals are interoperability, data interchange, and security for e-authentication systems based on a variety of authentication architectural configurations with differing storage, matching and transmission characteristics. BSR/INCITS Project 1861-D-200x, Information technology - Fibre Channel - Framing and Signaling - 3 (FC-FS-3) (new standard) Stakeholders: Fibre channel and network markets. Project Need: To describe any changes needed to Fibre Channel Framing and Signaling owing to changes to speed, new upper level protocols, and new functions. This project proposal recommends the development of a set of technical additions and clarifications to ANSI INCITS 424:2006, Fibre Channel - Framing and Signaling - 2 (FC-FS-2). Included within this scope are such functions as: (a) Inclusion of FC-FS-2-A!; (b) Enhancements to support new physical layer technologies; (c) Enhancements to support Inter-Fabric Routing; (d) Clarification of BB_Credit Recovery; and (e) Any other item as deemed necessary during the development.

Project Need: To revise current standards to add information re laser defraction and possibly sedimentation for smaller sizes. This standard sets forth microgrit size designations and size limits, as well as the test procedure that is used by the industry, other than for coated abrasives, in classifying abrasive microgrits by their size. NIST/ITL (National Institute of Standards and Technology/Information Technology Laboratory) Office: 100 Bureau Drive, Stop 8940 Gaithersburg, MD Contact: R. Michael McCabe Fax: mccabe@nist.gov BSR/NIST-ITL 1A-200x, Data Format for the Interchange of Fingerprint, Facial, & Scar Mark & Tattoo (SMT) Information: XML Version (supplement to ANSI/NIST-ITL ) Stakeholders: Criminal justice organizations, homeland security organizations. Project Need: To create an XML version of the ANSI/NIST-ITL that is consistent with data models for a national information exchange. This proposed supplement to ANSI/NIST-ITL will establish an equivalent XML format. This format defines the content, format, and units of measurement for the exchange of fingerprint, other biometric, and descriptive information that can be used for identification of subjects. This information is intended for interchange among criminal justice and homeland security administrations or organizations that rely on automated fingerprint and other biometric identification systems. Justice and homeland security organizations require a data interchange standard.

14 Standards Action - May 11, Page 14 of 22 Pages American National Standards Maintained Under Continuous Maintenance The ANSI Essential Requirements: Due Process Requirements for American National Standards provide two options for the maintenance of American National Standards (ANS): periodic maintenance (see clause 4.7.1) and continuous maintenance (see clause 4.7.2). Continuous maintenance is defined as follows: The standard shall be maintained by an accredited standards developer. A documented program for periodic publication of revisions shall be established by the standards developer. Processing of these revisions shall be in accordance with these procedures. The published standard shall include a clear statement of the intent to consider requests for change and information on the submittal of such requests. Procedures shall be established for timely, documented consensus action on each request for change and no portion of the standard shall be excluded from the revision process. In the event that no revisions are issued for a period of four years, action to reaffirm or withdraw the standard shall be taken in accordance with the procedures contained in the ANSI Essential Requirements. The Executive Standards Council (ExSC) has determined that for standards maintained under the Continuous Maintenance option, separate PINS announcements are not required. The following ANSI Accredited Standards Developers have formally registered standards under the Continuous Maintenance option. AAMVA AGRSS, Inc ASC B109 (AGA) ASHRAE ASME ASTM MHI (ASC MH10) NCPDP NBBPVI NSF International TIA Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. To obtain additional information with regard to these standards, such as contact information at the ANSI accredited standards developer, please visit ANSI Online at select Internet Resources, click on "Standards Information," and see "American National Standards Maintained Under Continuous Maintenance".
