1 Introduction In the current age of progress the demand for security technology is rising. Surveillance systems in banks, industry or even in private households are used more and more. The software PGuard-Multiuser (PGuard) offers many useful functions to simplify alarm management. PGuard also gives you a better overview of the alarms. With PGuard. it is possible to isolate specific alarms from the numerous alarm types and display them in an alarm window with acoustic warning. Filter criteria such as time period or the recorder to be displayed may also be selected. In addition the management of existing configurations and the setting of all functions without the recorder being connected is possible. This manual provides a step by step description of the functionality and operation of PGuard. 1.1 Validity This document applies to the PGuard software package. It has been created on the basis of version Conventions To enhance the clarity of this document, we have used a range of different symbols and formatting conventions. IMPORTANT The word IMPORTANT denotes information for preventing damage, incorrect configurations or incorrect actions. NOTE A NOTE offers information on principles, special features and efficient procedure as well as general recommendations. Expression Expressions in bold and italics generally indicate a control element on the device (switches or labels) or on its user interface (buttons, menu entries). 5

1.4 Installation PGuard can be installed on your PC in the form of the PGuard client or PGuard server. If PGuard is used on several stations, every user will have access to the same database (PGuard server) and therefore access to the same alarms and their processing status. NOTE Before starting the installation decide on which PC you wish to save the data and therefore where you wish to install PGuard in server form. Prior to installation ensure that there is adequate space available on the harddisk. The programme itself only requires approximately 20 MB disk space. However additional disk space will be required to save the incoming alarms. Approximate values are given in the table below. No. of Memory Space No. of Memory Space Alarms in MB Alarms in MB , , , ,0 Deactivate all running programs (including virus protection software and screen savers), to avoid possible conflicts during the installation of PGuard. Insert the PGuard CD-Rom in the CD-Rom drive. Click the Start button in the task bar and select Run. In the following dialog window, select the drive name of the CD- ROM drive that contains file PGuard_Installer.exe. Then follow the instructions in the installation dialogs. 7

Software PGuard-Multiuser Installation for single station use If PGuard is only required on a single PC, PGuard must be installed on this PC as a Server. Follow the instructions in the installation dialogs. 1.5 Update Version of PGuard is only available as a full installation version. If an older version of PGuard is already installed, it must first be uninstalled. Run the UNWISE.EXE file to uninstall it. This file is in the PGuard installation directory (default: C:/Programs/Dallmeier/PGuard). The remaining files in the installation directory after you can complete the uninstallation routine must then be deleted by hand. Then install PGuard as described. 9

Software PGuard-Multiuser 1.6 Starting PGuard for the first time IMPORTANT Ensure that the supplied dongle has been connected correctly. In order to be able to work with PGuard, you first need to enter your license number in the Hardlock Dongle Release dialog which then appears. This license number is supplied together with the dongle. Fig. 1-5 Confirm your entry by clicking on OK. NOTE The license number only needs to be entered once, prior to starting PGuard for the first time. This Hardlock Dongle Release must be executed separately for every PGuard installation (server and client) Start the PGuard server The PGuard server can be started at any time. Alarm messages can only be received, however, if the IP address of the PC on which PGuard has been installed as the server is entered on the appropriate recorders (DMS/DLS) for the alarm host. 10

1.6.2 Start the PGuard client PGuard can only be started as the client if the PGuard server has already been started. If the PGuard client is started, the PGuard user interface will be displayed with any existing messages. The entries on the list will be taken from the PGuard server database. Fig. 1-6 If an existing connection from the PGuard client to the PGuard server is disconnected (for example if the PGuard server is ended), the alarm list in the PGuard client will disappear. A message to this effect is provided in the bottom section of the user interface. Fig

Software PGuard-Multiuser Click on Continue. The Alarm settings dialog will open. Fig. 3-9: Alarm settings dialog In the Alarm settings dialog you can define certain reactions by PGuard to every alarm that the recorder can send. For example, in the event of a picture comparison event, you can activate the appropriate camera in PView, or in the event of a camera failure, you can automatically send an to a certain recipient. If you do not want to make any settings, click on Finish. The recorder has now been created with the standard alarm settings in PGuard. NOTE A detailed view of the Alarm settings dialog and the various settings possible within it are provided in section Transfer recorder The Accept from PView function is a convenient method for create several new recorders in PGuard. If a recorder has already been defined in PView but has not been created in PGuard, the recorder name and IP address can be transferred automatically. 22

The following conditions must be satisfied: PView and PGuard are installed on the same computer. PView must be open. The recorder name has not yet been assigned in PGuard. The IP address has not yet been assigned in PGuard. After the transfer an information dialogue will appear. This shows how many recorders have been defined in PView and how many can be transferred. Fig Edit recorder Change the settings for a recorder Mark the appropriate entry in the recorder list (Configuration / Recorder tab). Click on Edit. Make the changes (name, IP address or alarm settings) in the Edit recorder dialog. Confirm your changes by clicking on OK. 24 Software PGuard-Multiuser Alarm Host Check You can define the conditions for an automatic alarm host check on a DMS/DLS series recorder. In other words you can decide at what time or at what intervals the recorder should send a Test message to PGuard to confirm the connection between the two. A simple summary of existing connections can be obtained for the automatic alarm host check in the recorder list (Configuration Recorder tab). Fig. 3-12: Section of recorder list The green dot indicates that the last alarm host check was successful and that the recorder is connected to PGuard. The red dot indicates that the recorder signal is overdue. In this case you must check the connection. If there is no dot to the left of the recorder name, no automatic alarm host check has been set. NOTE The summary in the form of colored markings in the recorder list is only available on the PGuard server. However, a message will appear in the alarm list and alarm stack on the PGuard client. Detailed information about test messages in the alarm list is provided on both the PGuard server and PGuard client. Fig. 3-13: Excerpts from alarm list 24

You can start an immediate check of the connection on a DMS/ DLS recorder at any time. With this manual test message you receive an appropriate message in the alarm list or alarm stack but no color coding in the recorder list. To set the alarm host check, please refer to the appropriate section in the recorder manual. 3.4 Alarm settings The Alarm settings tab is available either when you create a new recorder (see section 3.3.1) or if you switch to the Alarm settings tab when editing a recorder (see section 3.3.3). Fig. 3-14: Alarm settings dialog Fundamentals The list of all the alarms that the recorder can send is shown on the left-hand side of the dialog. Click on the required alarm in the list. The Perform actions checkbox allows you to decide whether PGuard executes actions or remains passive if it receives this alarm. The tabs under the checkbox enable the user to configure these actions. 25

Software PGuard-Multiuser NOTE All the settings only refer to the currently active alarm. An explanation of the various alarm types can be found in section 7. If the Perform actions checkbox is not checked, the tabs for setting the various actions will also be deactivated if this alarm occurs. PGuard still receives this type of alarm but does not execute any actions. The alarm will be entered in the alarm list and can be evaluated. You can Save the settings for an alarm can be transferred in various ways (see sections 3.4.8). Deactivate actions for all alarms After installation, default priorities and actions will be assigned to the alarms. To make the individual configuration of the alarms as efficient as possible, particularly if you only wish to carry out actions (for example notification, connection to PView, etc.) for a few alarms, you can deactivate the actions for all alarms before making the individual settings. If you also wish to define the priorities on an individual basis, they should initially be set to the lowest levels for all alarms. Even if the actions have been deactivated, the alarm will retain its default priority. If, for example, a sound output has also been defined for priority 2, this sound output will be executed despite the fact that the actions have been deactivated. IMPORTANT Be careful with priority 6 on the PGuard server. If this priority is selected for all alarms, all the alarms will be acknowledged automatically. Settings on the PGuard client will therefore have no effect. Check whether the priority can be set to the lowest level for the alarm for which no action is required. Select an arbitrary alarm. Set the priority (Acknowledge tab) to the lowest level (see section 3.4.3). Uncheck the checkbox for Execute actions. Click on Save For all alarms for this recorder. 26

Confirm the next windows by clicking on OK. Now select the alarms for which you wish to redefine the actions and/or priorities Appearance tab Each alarm is displayed in the Alarm Type box with a separate text. This text is displayed in the alarm list, the alarm stack and the alarm window. You can adjust this predefined text to suit your needs in the Appearance tab. Title If the Title checkbox is checked, the message Alarm! will appear in the alarm window with a background in the color assigned to the priority of the alarm (see Confirmation tab). If you have unchecked the Title checkbox, the alarm window will be opened without the Alarm! message and with no color background to denote the priority. Message Text If the Notification text checkbox is checked, the text next to it will be displayed in the alarm window. The message text are predefined but may be edited individually by you. This text is also output in the Alarm Type column in the alarm list (or alarm stack). Click on the Preview message text to display a preview window with the appropriate message text. If the checkbox is unchecked, the alarm window will be opened without the message text in the event of an alarm. Display moving text If the checkbox is checked, the following information will be shown in the bottom section of the alarm window: The type of alarm message. The name of the camera that recorded the alarm. The name of the recorder that activated the alarm. The track ID. 27

Software PGuard-Multiuser The time when PGuard should receive the alarm. The time when the recorder activated the alarm. If the checkbox is unchecked, the above information will not be displayed. Fig. 3-15: Appearance tab Fig. 3-16: Alarm window dialog Confirmation tab You can allocate a specific priority to the various alarms using the Confirmation tab. In addition you can decide whether and how the alarm has to be acknowledged or confirmed when it has occurred. Fig. 3-17: Confirmation tab 28

Alarm priority The prioritization of the alarms allows them to be displayed clearly in order of their importance. The relevant priority is displayed both in the alarm list and in the alarm stack. However, Priority 1 and priority 6 (priority 6 can only be set on the PGuard server) deserve special mention above the other priorities as a result of their special features. Fig On the PGuard server there are 6 priorities available, on the PGuard client there are 5, each of which are displayed by defined colors. 1 is the highest priority, whilst 6 is the lowest. Define the priority for the selected alarm using the pull-down menu. Priority 1: The alarm window will be displayed automatically and the alarm can be edited (see chapter 3.4.2). Priority 2-5: The alarm window will not be displayed automatically. It can be opened by double-clicking on the list entry so that the alarm can be edited. Priority 6: These alarms are confirmed automatically as soon as they are received by the PGuard server. To avoid irregularities with the automatic confirmation, this priority level can only be set on the PGuard server. NOTE If you have set priority 6 for an alarm on a PGuard server, the settings on the PGuard client will have no effect for this alarm. 29

Software PGuard-Multiuser As a result of their automatic confirmation, it is not possible to open an alarm window automatically for alarms with priority 6. However, these alarms are marked in the alarm list by a separate symbol. Alarm automatically confirmed Alarm manually confirmed These alarms are not listed in the alarm stack (see section 6.2). However, you will receive information about the number of automatically confirmed alarms. Fig With comments If you have checked the With comment checkbox, you can assign the acknowledgement of an alarm with separate comments in the alarm window. These comments are filed in the main window in the column headed Conf. comment for the relevant alarm. It is not essential to enter a command for this option. Fig Fig. 3-21: Alarm window section With comments Required phrase If you have checked the Required phrase checkbox in addition to the With comment checkbox, you can define a phrase for the acknowledgement. Fig

This phrase must be entered for the acknowledgement of an alarm. Fig. 3-23: Alarm window section Required phrase If this option is active, but no phrase has been entered, the editor must enter a comment. However, any arbitrary text can be entered for this comment. Fig The comment entered in the alarm window (processing note) will be entered in the alarm list after acknowledgement in the column headed Ack. Comment. Fig. 3-25: Alarm window section Required phrase Fig. 3-26: Excerpt from Ack. 32 Software PGuard-Multiuser Connection to PView tab On the Connection to PView tab you can decide whether a connection to PView should be established for a certain alarm and what activation (track, live or preset) should be used on PView. If you do not use PView or you do not want PView to be activated for the selected alarm, all the checkboxes in this tab must be unchecked. There are basically two options for the recorder activation time in PView: 1) Activate immediately on receipt of alarm 2) Activation when editing the alarm 1) Activate immediately on receipt of alarm If you have checked the option Activate live immediately when alarm is received (default) for an alarm, the live picture activation in PView will take place immediately when this alarm is received by PGuard. Fig. 3-28: Alarm setting Connection to PView tab 2) Activation when editing the alarm Regardless of the immediately live picture activation (see point 1), you can define several different types of activation in PView. The type of activation in PView selected in this case will only take place, however, if an alarm is opened to be edited and the alarm window is displayed. 32

Fig. 3-29: Alarm setting Connection to PView tab As live image If the checkbox As live image is checked, when an alarm window is opened (by double-clicking on a list entry in the alarm list or alarm stack) the appropriate live picture will be activated in PView. Any previous immediate live picture activation will be replaced by the live picture of the alarm being processed. View track Camera-based track activation The Camera-based track activation option attempts to determine the alarm-triggering camera - whose track is to be viewed - based on the track ID. For some alarm types, this ID is sent to PGuard together with the alarm notification from the recorder. To this track (name) Track viewing with the To this track (name) option occurs independently of the track ID. Simply enter the name of the desired track. If the recorder is not added as a new recorder in PGuard but instead is applied from PView, there is a peculiarity with respect to the track name. If PView was connected to the recorder (in the same session) prior to this, the existing names of the recorder tracks are applied as well during the process of applying the recorder. These then can be selected from the drop-down menu. The two track activation options can each be supplemented by one of the following options: 33

Software PGuard-Multiuser Pre-alarm (min/sec) If you have checked the Pre alarm (min/sec) radio button, you can decide by entering a timeframe, that the track activation should occur at a time before the alarm is triggered. If, for example, an alarm is triggered at 13:00. Five minutes are set for Pre-alarm. The track is activated and the picture recorded at 12:55 is displayed. Track activation in context If you have checked the Track activation in context radio button, PView will be activated with 3 splits if an alarm occurs. Split 1: The track will be activated one second before the event. Split 2: The track will be activated when the event occurs. Split 3: The track will be activated one second after the event. NOTE The pre-alarm and context activation can only be executed properly if the appropriate recordings or tracks are available on the recorder. Load preset You can activate a PView present using Load preset. Enter the name of the required preset or select it from the pull-down menu. NOTE The As live picture and Activate track options can be used individually or in combination. The Load preset option can only be used individually. 34

notification tab The notification tab enables you to predefine an . This mail will then be sent whenever the alarm concerned is received by PGuard. Fig. 3-30: Alarm setting notification tab Check the Send notification via checkbox and enter the name of the sender under From and the address of the recipient under To. You can enter several recipients, but they must be separated by semi-colons. NOTE The settings for your SMTP server are shown on the System tab (see section 3.5.4). Edit mail If you click on Edit mail the Mail editor dialog will open. In this dialog you can compose the information that you wish to send by . IMPORTANT Do not change the inserted variables, as these will no longer be recognized and replaced. 35

Software PGuard-Multiuser The text and subject line of the can be edited as in a text editor. You can insert the text of your choice in any area, thus configuring the default setting shown above to suit your needs. The recorder-specific data are inserted as a variable in the text or the subject line of the wherever the cursor is located. To do this, click on the menu button (A) and select a variable from the menu shown. By clicking on the Restore presetting button, you can reconfigure the with the default settings as shown above. A Fig. 3-31: Mail editor dialog Test If you click on Test in the notification tab, you can send a test . 36

3.4.6 Run program tab If a particular program is to be executed in the event of an alarm, you can configure the required settings in this tab. Fig. 3-32: Run this program tab First type in the exact path of the application to be started. You can either enter the path directly or call up a dialog for selecting the file via the Run this program: button located on the right-hand side next to the entry box. In the Arguments: entry box, you can specify the parameters required for starting the program. The button on the right-hand side next to the entry box calls up a menu from which you can enter ready-made arguments, such as Recorder name or Alarm name. NOTE Observe the conventions for specifying arguments. These are dependent on the program to be called up and must be manually edited. Finally, you can specify a Working directory in which the program is to be executed. This specification is usually optional and is dependent on the program to be executed. Time of program start In principle the external program is started when the alarm window for the appropriate alarm is displayed. In addition, by checking the option Start immediately when alarm arrives you can decide that the program will be started when the alarm is received. 37

Software PGuard-Multiuser Sub-alarms Sub-alarms are separate alarm messages that are linked to one or more cameras. The Sub-Alarm option is available for the Camera contact, Image comparison event and Sensor contact alarm types. If you click on the Sub-Alarms button in the Alarm settings tab the dialog will be shown and if you click on it again it will disappear. Fig. 3-33: Sub-alarms Click on Add alarm and a new line will be displayed in the subalarm window and in the list of alarms (in this case Image comparison event). Each new line represents a sub-alarm of the selected alarm type. Fig. 3-34: Alarm with 2 added sub-alarms By right-clicking in the appropriate line you can assign one or more cameras to the relevant sub-alarm. 38

Please note that you can only assign one alarm to a camera, but you can assign several cameras to an alarm. To cancel the assignment, right-click on the appropriate red square. Fig If you wish to configure a sub-alarm, mark the appropriate subalarm in the list on the left-hand side of the tab (for example Image comparison event_1). The various sub-alarms can be configured as described in section 3.4. In the simplest case, for example, you can assign different priorities for each camera to the sub-alarms for picture comparison. Fig. 3-36: Excerpt from alarm stack You can remove the sub-alarm by marking the appropriate line in the Sub-Alarm dialog and then clicking on Delete alarm Save and apply settings All changes that you make to the alarm settings will only affect the alarm that is currently selected. If you wish to apply your configurations for other alarms, there are four options available to you. Fig

Software PGuard-Multiuser If you click on Accept... next to For all alarms of this recorder or For all alarms on all registered recorders, the Adopt alarm settings dialog will open. In this dialog you can make various selections for the alarm setting you wish to apply. Fig If you click on Accept next to As default for this alarm on new recorders or For this alarm on all registered recorders, a window will open to confirm or cancel this action. 40

3.5 System If you click on Configuration... in the main window of PGuard, you will open the System tab in Configuration dialog. Fig. 3-39: System tab Alarm window You can define the configurations for the alarm window if an alarm occurs in the Alarm window dialog field. Fig. 3-40: Alarm window dialog box Retain window position If you have checked the Retain window position checkbox and an alarm occurs, the alarm window will open. Move the alarm window to the required position on your screen using the mouse. If another alarm occurs the alarm window will open at the position you have assigned to it. Window width adjustable If you have checked this checkbox you can define the width of the alarm window when an alarm occurs. Move the mouse pointer along the left or right edge of the alarm window, press and hold the left button and define the width of the alarm window you require. The following alarm window will open with this width. 41

Software PGuard-Multiuser Use alarm-stack If you activate the Use alarm-stack checkbox, PGuard will change from the main window to alarm stack mode when an alarm occurs (see section 6.2). Only the alarms that have not yet been confirmed (acknowledged) will be listed in the alarm stack. The advantage of the alarm stack is that it provides a better overview of received alarms that have not yet been acknowledged by the color coding of the alarm messages. In addition the alarm stack is automatically activated by every alarm message and placed in front of any other programs that may be open. If, for example, the main window of PGuard has been minimized, in contrast to the alarm stack, this will not be opened automatically to indicate the receipt of an alarm message Alarm sounds The Alarmsounds dialog field gives you a change to emit an acoustic signal when an alarm occurs. Fig. 3-41: Alarmsounds dialog NOTE The alarm sounds will only be used if you have checked the Use alarm-stack checkbox and have external speakers connected to your computer. Alarm sound by priority On the left-hand side you can assign the various priorities of the alarms a *.wav file, which will be played if an alarm of this priority occurs. Click on the button and select your destination folder. Mark the required sound and click on Open. To assign a sound to alarms of a lower priority, you must first assign a sound to the higher priorities. Three alarm sounds are supplied with the device and you will find them in the Audio folder within your PGuard folder. 42

4 Alarm processing Alarms can be processed (acknowledge or reset alarm) on the PGuard server and PGuard client at any time for all alarms. However, the alarm processing is dependent on the opened alarm window. The following applies in this respect: If the alarm window for an alarm on the PGuard server is open, this alarm cannot be processed on any clients. If the alarm window for an alarm on a PGuard client is open, this alarm cannot be processed on any other clients or on the PGuard server. 4.1 Alarm list / Alarm stack Alarms sent to PGuard can be found in 2 lists. The alarm list in the main window contains all alarms that have not been processed and those that have been processed (acknowledged). Fig. 4-1: Alarm list in the main window Fig. 4-2: Alarm stack 47

Software PGuard-Multiuser If you have checked the Use alarm stack option in Configuration, System tab, the alarm stack list will be opened automatically when an alarm occurs. The alarm stack provides you with a better overview of alarms that have not yet been acknowledged since only these are listed and filed with the color of the priority defined for the various alarms. It is possible to change between the complete alarm list and the alarm stack by clicking on the button. 4.2 Alarm window Alarm window for priority 1 alarms If PGuard receives an alarm for which priority 1 has been defined in the configuration, an alarm window will be opened automatically for this alarm. Fig. 4-3 Whether the alarm window is opened on the PGuard server or a PGuard client dependent on whether an alarm window has already been opened or not on the PGuard server. If an alarm window is already open on the PGuard server and a new alarm occurs (with priority 1), the alarm will automatically be forwarded to a PGuard client where the alarm window will be opened. If more alarms occur than there are PGuard workstations (server and clients), the excess number of alarm will be placed in a queue. The alarm window for these alarms will not be opened until the previous alarm has been confirmed (acknowledged) or reset. 48

Alarm window for priority 2 to 5 alarms The alarm window will not be opened automatically for alarms whose priority has been set at between 2 and 5. An alarm window for these alarms can be opened by doubleclicking on an entry in the alarm list of alarm stack. Fig. 4-4 Double-clicking on an alarm that has not yet been acknowledged will open the relevant alarm window. Fig. 4-5 This alarm will be marked in the alarm list and alarm stack with a padlock to signify that it has been locked. Locked means that this alarm cannot be processed (acknowledged) by another PGuard workstation. Fig

Software PGuard-Multiuser 4.3 Process alarm Confirm alarm There are several methods of confirming an alarm. 1) If it is a priority 1 alarm, the alarm window will be opened automatically. This alarm can be acknowledged straight away by clicking on Confirm. 2) The alarm window is not opened automatically for priority 2 to 5 alarms, but you can open the appropriate alarm window by double-clicking on a list entry in the alarm list or alarm stack and acknowledge it after reading the message text by clicking on Confirm. 3) If you do not need to read the message text and therefore you do not need to open the alarm window, you can also acknowledge the alarm using the context menu. To do this, right-click on a list entry and select Confirm. Fig ) You can also confirm alarms jointly by means of multiple selection Reset alarm Alarms that have occurred can be reset so that they can be confirmed at a later time. Reset alarms are marked in the alarm list and alarm stack with the symbol. 50

NOTE An alarm can only be reset when the alarm window is open. It cannot be reset using the context menu. Reset a priority 2 to 5 alarm Alarms that you have classed as priority 2 to 5 can be reset by clicking on the symbol in the alarm window. Fig. 4-8 You can open the alarm window for reset alarms by double-clicking on the relevant alarm in the alarm list or alarm stack. Reset a priority 1 alarm Alarms that you have classed as priority 1 are normally processed immediately. If you nevertheless wish to reset an alarm with this priority, it is only possible to do so by clicking on another alarm in the alarm list. When the selected alarm has been confirmed, the alarm window of the (priority 1) alarm that you reset will automatically open again straight away Delete alarm Alarms can be deleted in the alarm stack or alarm list. Mark the entries you wish to mark in the appropriate list. Click on Delete after the selection has been made.
