This product can be identified by checking that the PCB matches the diagrams in this manual (PCB Part number is _A) and the Serial Number label prefix is FE6. For Serial GSM Modems utilizing the Multipath Interface PCB (PCB P/N: _B) refer to the earlier Fratech FE3000S Installation Manual, P/N: Revision 2. INTRODUCTION This version of the FE3000 Serial is intended for Monitoring and/or Control applications via an RS232 Serial Port Connection to an Inner Range Alarm Panel that supports a compatible communications protocol. i.e. Concept 3000, Concept 4000 and Integriti. The FE3000 Serial can provide a pathway for alarm transmissions via the GSM network and control functions via SMS messages. The alarm Reporting can be via Contact ID and/or SMS messages. In addition, two Digital Inputs and a dedicated Tamper Input are provided. Alarms on these Inputs can also be sent via Contact ID to a Central Monitoring Station, or via SMS messaging to a Mobile Phone, or both. Current Input states (Seal/Alarm) can be viewed via PC or SMS by sending a simple request to the FE3000 Serial. The DC supply Voltage is also monitored, and the unit can be programmed to send an alarm if it drops too low. SAFETY WARNINGS Only Qualified Installation/Service personnel should install the FE3000S Serial GSM Modem. Position the Antenna so that humans or animals cannot approach closer than 10 cm during normal operation and so that it is protected from lightning. Do not locate the Antenna within 1 metre of any other electronic equipment or within the cabinet. Do not use the GSM Modem in any environment where RF emissions may cause a hazard, such as refuelling points, blasting areas, airports, aircraft, medical facilities etc. NOTE: The unit may present a hazard to medical electronic devices such as pacemakers and hearing aids. If in doubt seek advice. Take care not to short the battery as it can deliver large currents causing serious burns or a fire hazard. If the supplied enclosure is used, it should be mounted on a flat vertical fire resistant surface. Cable entry hole diameters should be kept to a minimum. Hole plugs should be fitted to any unused cable entry holes in the enclosure. Disclaimer. 1. 3 Revision 1.0 October Prior to Installation. INSTALLING THE FE3000S Serial GSM MODEM 1. Determine a suitable location to mount the FE3000S GSM Modem and Antenna. The FE3000S can be installed using the supplied plastic enclosure. -Ensure that the Antenna and cable are concealed to avoid deliberate tampering or accidental damage. -Ensure that the Antenna wiring is long enough to reach the intended Antenna location. -Check the proposed Antenna location by ensuring that you can make a noise free voice call using your GSM phone. (Use the same network as the FE3000S will be using) -Take care to avoid placing the Antenna near metallic objects or other electronic equipment. -The FE3000S may be mounted within the Alarm Panel enclosure if space and mounting facilities are available. -Ensure that the FE3000S is installed so that connection can be made between the IFACE connector on the FE3000S PCB and the appropriate connector on the Alarm Panel or associated Serial interface. 2. Obtain and Install a SIM Card. All GSM Modems need a SIM card installed. Purchase from your supplier or directly from a network vendor. Lock >>> <<< Unlock Install the SIM card by raising the SIM card cover (Push in gently to unlock before raising) and gently inserting the SIM card into position on the holder. Ensure the SIM card is orientated with the cutoff corner to the end indicated by the arrow (bottom left). Lower the cover back into place and lock the holder into position. IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. The SIM card must not have a PIN number programmed. (You can test by putting the SIM Card in a normal GSM phone and checking to see that it does not prompt for a PIN to start up) Make sure you understand the tariff details according to how you intend to use the GSM Modem, as many calls can be automatically initiated by the GSM Modem. 2. In the same way that new mobile phones are not always compatible with an old SIM card, the modem used in this product may not be compatible with older SIM cards. 3. A GSM mobile phone is an ideal tool to use when installing the FE3000S GSM Modem. It can be used to locate a suitable antenna location with adequate network signal strength and also for sending and receiving SMS messages for testing. Installation. 1. The FE3000S enclosure can be mounted in a suitable location, close to the Alarm Panel Controller, using fasteners through the four mounting holes in the base. OR If space and mounting facilities are provided, the FE3000S PCB assembly can be removed from the plastic enclosure and fitted within the same enclosure as the Alarm Panel. See Prior to Installation above. Normally Closed Base and Lid tamper switches may be fitted to the enclosure before it is mounted. The 2 switches are wired in parallel and connected to the TAMP Input. The Switch is Open circuit when plunger depressed. See Tamper Switch Wiring diagram on Page 6.

7 Revision 1.0 October Power Up and Default. COMMISSIONING IMPORTANT NOTE: The FE3000S is shipped from the Factory, defaulted to Interface Mode for serial communications with an Alarm Panel. e.g. Concept 3000/Concept 4000/Integriti. The Default programming procedure is only required if the FE3000S has been changed to another mode and needs to be returned to Interface Mode. 1. Remove power from the FE3000S GSM Modem. 2. Short the INIT Link. 3. Re-apply power, then remove the short from the INIT Link. 4. Check that only the PWR OK lamp illuminates. 5. Select the Default Programming Option required as follows: Momentarily short the INIT Link one or more times while observing the INDICATOR LAMPS until the lamp representing the required Default Programming Option (listed below) is illuminated. IND. LAMP OPTION DESCRIPTION PWR OK Clear Password. Clears Owner Password. Clears Installer Password and removes Installer lockout. Panel OK Interface Mode. Serial communications with a Concept 3000/4000/Integriti Control Module. GSM Reg GSM CID only. Option for Stand-alone operation. 6. Momentarily short the OK Link to load the settings for the selected default option. The Panel OK & GSM Reg lamps will both illuminate for about 1 second, and then the GSM Modem will resume normal operation. Network Registration and Signal Strength. 1. The GSM Reg lamp should illuminate after a minute or so, indicating that the GSM modem has registered with the network. If GSM OK lamp remains Off or continuously flashing refer to Indicator Lamps table on Page Check for adequate signal strength by observing that the GSM Reg lamp pulses off between 2 and 5 times every 5 seconds. You can use this feature to help position the Antenna for the best possible signal strength. -Five pulses indicates the best signal. -Two pulses is an acceptable signal for Contact ID and SMS transmissions. -One pulse indicates the worst signal and while SMS transmissions will probably work, Contact ID transmissions will be unreliable. NOTE: When used in Interface Mode with an Concept 3000/Access 4000 Control Module, the Signal strength can be checked in the Concept 3000/4000 Review. The R option (RSSI) in the GSM Comms Task Advanced options screen (BCSAP2DR) must be set to Y. This will provide a Review entry about every second for signal strength in dbm. e.g. CTxx - GSM Status: Reg. Rssi: -71dB. IMPORTANT NOTE: Remember to set this option back to n when Signal Strength testing is completed. When used in Stand-alone Mode the Signal strength can be checked using the DS? command. The signal strength should be better than -85db. -65dB to -85dB is typical and will provide reliable communications. Around -95dB, the Modem will fail to communicate, and -113dB usually indicates no antenna is connected.
8 8 FE3000 Serial Installation Notes. When used in Interface Mode, program the Concept 3000/Access 4000/Integriti Control Module for GSM Modem operation (for normal operation the FE3000S requires no programming). 1. Program the Telephone Numbers, GSM Comms Task and Process Groups according to the Concept 3000/4000 or Integriti Programming Manual paying particular attention to the following options: -Program the Telephone numbers required. e.g. Central Station, SMS Service Centre, User s Mobile phone, etc. -Select the correct UART Comm Port. The Baud rate setting, if available, is not used for FE3000. (If Baud Rate screen is not available, Baud Rate is fixed at the appropriate value) -Assign the programmed Telephone numbers to the Comms Task. e.g. SMS Service No, SMS1/SMS2 and CID No. -Program the required functions. NOTE: In Concept 3/4000, BCSIP2UR options, if the 2 option is available, ensure that this option is set to n. -If SMS Remote Control is required, select the required options for the type of control allowed. -If Contact ID is required, program the Client Code. -If SMS Alarms require acknowledgment, program the SMS Acknowledge time. -Program the other reporting filters and options as required. -If the Concept 3000/4000 Firmware is V4.5 or later and SMS alarm messages are required, the Tx SMS and SMS No. options must be programmed in the appropriate Process Group/s. 2. When all Comms Task options are programmed as required, Set the Comms Task to Active and check Review for registration of the GSM Modem on the network and for signal strength. Test Communications. (If Central Station reporting is programmed, contact the Central Station prior to testing) When used in Interface Mode in conjunction with a Model 3000/Access 4000 Control Module, refer to the FE3000S QUICK INSTALL GUIDE for Inner Range Concept 3000/Access 4000 for testing instructions. # Name 1 eset 4 ow Batt.
