SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS. 4
5 2 Overview About the Dynalite Relay Cabinet Dynalite Relay Cabinets feature robust and rugged relays, and provide advanced control of various lighting load types, and allow any combination of control including DMX512, internal overrides, Dynalite sensors, and/or integration with building management systems. Relay Cabinet Components Figure 1: Relay Cabinet Overview 5
6 3 Installation Installation Overview The following steps are required to successfully install this product: 1. Review this document completely before starting the installation. 2. Unpack and inspect equipment. Compare the equipment you received with your packing list. If these do not match, contact Philips Lighting Customer Support at Please have your Sales Order Number available when contacting customer service. This number is found on the Packing List. 3. Gather tools. Refer to Tools List below. 4. Choose an appropriate location for installation. Refer to Locations and Clearances below. 5. Plan the wire routings and connection order. Decide where the Feed, Load, and Control wiring will enter the cabinet(s). 6. Remove access panels and knockouts as required for conduit or busway entry. Perform all conduit connections to the cabinet before it is permanently installed. Be sure to remove all knockout pieces and debris. 7. Securely mount the cabinet and terminate all Line, Load and Control wiring following the directions in this guide. Note If commissioning and start-up are included as part of your installation, proceed to next steps. 8. Clean up work site for engineering check-out by Philips Lighting Support (see Notice To Contractor at the end of this manual). 9. Contact Philips Lighting Customer Support when the product is installed and ready for check-out. Location and Clearances When installing this product, the location site MUST meet the following requirements: Wall must be capable of supporting the weight of the cabinet. The cabinet may be either recess-mounted or surface-mounted. Minimum ventilation spacing for side-by-side mounting: 6 inches. All cabinets require 12 inches of ventilation space above and below. Indoor Use Only: The unit MUST be installed indoors. Dry Locations Only: The unit can only be installed in an "office clean" area that is never exposed to moisture of any kind. Philips Lighting is not responsible for damage to equipment caused by moisture, paint, dust, solvents or cleaning supplies. Installation location should have sufficient volume to allow exhaust air to circulate and cool. Refer to National Electrical Code and local codes to determine whether additional requirements must be met. Proper separation if Class 1 and Class 2 wiring must be met per National Electrical Code. Mounting the Cabinet To install cabinet: 1. Locate suitable location for mounting the cabinet. (Refer to "Locations and Clearances" above.) 2. Mount cabinet utilizing pre-punched mounting holes, shown in Figure 2, as follows: a. Remove front panel (if installed). b. Ensure that wall is capable of supporting the weight of the relay cabinet. c. Mark hole placement on wall. d. Using four 1/4" wall-anchor bolts (not included), secure cabinet in place. Figure 2: Mounting holes Tools List The following is a basic list of tools required for this installation: Drill (for mounting holes) Hammer (for removing knockouts) Phillips screwdriver Small flat screwdriver Adjustable wrench Wire stripper Heatshrink tubing Pencil Knife Wire cutter Ratchet and assorted sockets Conduit and fittings Digital voltmeter/rms 6
7 Warning You must have access to a main circuit breaker or other power disconnect device before installing any wiring. Be sure that power is disconnected by removing fuses or turning the main circuit breaker off before installation. Installing the device with power on may expose you to dangerous voltage and damage the device. A qualified electrician (personnel) must perform this installation. Refer to National Electrical Code and local codes for cable specifications. Failure to use proper cable can result in damage to equipment or danger to persons. Connecting Line and Load Wiring To connect line/load wiring: 1. Install load and line wiring through knockouts. Use AWG wire for load/line circuit wiring. Caution Wire openings MUST have fittings or lining to protect wires/cables from damage. Use 90 C copper wire only! 2. Connect proper grounding (Figure 4). 3. Install low-voltage wiring. Figure 4: Wiring Connections Connecting Control Wiring The Dynalite Relay Cabinet may be controlled by the following Class 2 control methods: USITT DMX512 DyNet Network Gateway (option) Dry Contact Inputs Emergency Input (UL924 option) Each Relay Cabinet contains a Connect PCB for connection of Class 2 control wiring. The Connect PCB also contains jumpers for termination of DMX512 signal. For approved wire types per control method, refer to "Standard Wiring" on page 8. To connect control wiring: 1. Route Class 2 control wiring from source to side of Relay Cabinet. 2. Install conduit fittings or insert lining materials in the knockout opening. 3. Pull Class 2 control wiring through prepared openings. Caution Wire openings MUST have fittings or lining to protect wires and cable insulation. 4. Prepare cabling as shown in Standard Wiring on page Connect Class 2 wiring to appropriate location on Connect PCB as shown in to Figure Set DMX Term (termination) jumper as required. Figure 5: Connect PCB Terminal Ground Relay Screw (Connection) Tightening Torque kcm 325 in-lbs # in-lbs 0.8 N-m to 1.2 N-m Connecting Line voltage to Power Supply To connect line voltage to the power supply: 1. Pull neutral and line wiring to panel thru necessary conduit. Caution Wire openings MUST have fittings or lining to protect wires/cables from damage. Use 90 C copper wire only! 2. These drawings reflect changes in the equipment based on the returned Note If commissioning and start-up are included as part of your installation, please read below. Warning No part of this system, except distributed dimming products, may be energized or operated until the installation check list is completed, and for systems with an Engineering Check-Out, the installation has been approved by a Philips Lighting Representative. Violation of this requirement may damage components and therefore constitute misuse under standard warranty terms. Such misuse may relieve Philips Lighting of any and all further obligations under the terms of this warranty. For Distributed Dimming products, power may be applied to individual dimmer strips and boxes in order to set the DMX512 Address prior to installation. Approved submittal drawings and/or any changes that may have occurred in production. Previous sets of drawings should be destroyed. All installation and wire terminations MUST be completed per the "As Built" Drawings and prior to energizing the system and Start-up. 1) Input power must be connected to the system, but not energized. The Field Service Representative will not be able to: Install equipment or make electrical connections required of the installing contractor, including DMX512, DyNet, and/or any other connections that require a licensed electrician. Return to instruct any personnel who missed the original training session. If the above requirements have not been met, the Field Service Representative will be required to leave the job site. Return trips to complete the Engineering Check-Out require a separate Purchase Order and will be invoiced at the cost of travel (including per diem and travel time door-to-door), hourly labor, and a minimum daily onsite charge. Rescheduling will require 3 weeks notice, subject to Field Service Representative availability. Please feel free to contact Philips Lighting Customer Support should there be any questions regarding the installation of the equipment or requirements regarding the Engineering Check-Out. IMPORTANT! Field Service / Commissioning Request form on page 12 or contact Philips Lighting Customer Support. 2) All loads must be connected and all lighting instruments must be lamped. 3) All control wiring must be installed and terminated - including DMX512 and DyNet.
