6 MX 1230 NOVEC (CLEAN GAS) At sea, safety requirements for ships are of the utmost importance. This also applies to fire protection measures. After all, in the event of fire, rapid escape is usually impossible and the prompt arrival of help from outside cannot be expected. In light of the various types of fire risks which exist on board ships, specific solutions are necessary for the space or object to be protected in order to ensure optimal fire protection on board. Areas that deserve special attention include rooms with electrical and electronic devices, such as control rooms, control cabinets and smaller machine rooms on ships. In such risk areas, extinguishing systems which put out fires quickly yet carefully are essential, in order to ensure that sensitive equipment is not damaged by residues left by the extinguishing agent. With the MX 1230 Marine and MX 200 Marine clean agent fire suppression system, Aksis has developed solutions which meet the demanding requirements on board a ship. For instance, the fire suppression systems can even be dimensioned with 50-bar system pressure. The systems are distinguished through the presence of the authorised and tested chemical suppressors NovecTM 1230 and HFC-227ea: neither fire suppressor is corrosive nor electrically conductive, nor causes any damage to sensitive parts through short circuits or residues. The MX 1230 Marine and MX 200 Marine dean agent fire suppression systems are available for tugboats, coast and inland navigation vessels and small yachts, in addition to drilling rigs The size of the room to be protected is a key focus for both systems. As a result, they offer optimal fire protection in smaller rooms, and are fully certified with all major marine sector approvals. /aksisfire
SPRINKLER SYSTEMS 7 Sprinkler systems are self-acting fire extinguishing systems having an uncomplicated as well a safe functioning principle. A network of piping and sprinkler heads are installed throughout the areas of the building requiring protection and is constantly under pressure. Under normal conditions the sprinkler head is closed off by a liquid-filled bulb. If due to the effects of a fire, the ambient temperature in the immediate vicinity rises by approximately 30 c above the maximum temperature expected under normal conditions, the glass bulb bursts. Then pressurized extinguishing water flows through the piping into the sprinkler head and the resulting water jet hits the spray plate which diverts the spray to the areas to be covered. At the same time the water flow in the piping network trips the alarm systems. When the fire is extinguished, replace the activated sprinkler that was activated and the system is ready for operation again.
8 MINIFOG MARINE HIGH PRESSURE WATER MIST SYSTEM PROTECTION The special conditions at sea mean that safety is an incredibly important issue for ships. The aim is to prevent any danger to make sure everything runs smoothly on board. And the key safety issue for passenger ships is of course the people on board. Ships are subject to a whole range of fire risks, which means fire protection on board has to be all the more effective. After all, in the event of a fire, it is not as easy to escape when at sea, and prompt fire-fighting assistance from outside cannot be counted on. Minimax has developed the Minifog marine XP water mist extinguishing system specially for maritime risks. It takes high-pressure technology to new dimensions. Many years of experience in water mist extinguishing technology and the marine sector have gone into the research, and the Minifog marine XP is the result. It complies with all relevant directives and, above all, it is extremely easy to use. Minifog marine XP offers the optimum allaround protection for seagoing and inland navigation vessels. The fire protection system can protect passenger, public and storage areas, as well as engine rooms. In short, it s an entirely new level of operational safety. The Minifog marine XP features a sophisticated design which has been thought through right down to the last detail from installation to protection against clogging or breakdown. The efficient Minifog marine XP water mist extinguishing system can be used in all areas of the ship: Accommodation, public space and store areas Engine rooms Local application system Minifog marine XP advantages: Uses 90% less extinguishing water than classic sprinkler systems. Engine rooms of up to 8,235 m³ volume. Conduit diameters from 10 to 42 mm save valuable space. No separate fi re protection system needed to protect the engine rooms. Just one sprinkler in a cabin can cover up to 32 m². Sprinklers can be spaced up to 6 m apart in the corridors. Protects the entire engine rooms, including objects and the bilge, with just one nozzle type. Stainless steel sprinklers and nozzles. Sprinkler and nozzle outlet ports 1 mm in diameter or more. No risk at clogging. Engine rooms (incl. bilge) can be protected without foaming agent. /aksisfire
CO2 SYSTEM 9 Carbon Dioxide has been used as an extinguishant in fixed installations since the beginning of the twentieth century, Carbon Dioxide is a colourless, odourless, dry, inert gas and is one of the most Wellknown of all fire extinguishants. The standard size cylinders used for the system is 67.5 L steel cylinders filled with 5 Kg of Carbon Dioxide. Cylinders can be delivered in accordance with the requirements of the various national authorities, including required stamping and certificates
10 SAMPLE EXTRACTION SMOKE DETECTION SYSTEM II-2, Regulation 13-1 The smoke detection system is suitable for controlling up to cargo holds. It uses the existing CO2 fire extinguishing pipe work through which air is continually sucked from the cargo hold. In the smoke detection system itself the air which has been taken from the cargo hold is examined for smoke and blown out of the vessel by fans. The smoke detection system SDS-48 is explosion protected. For remote indication of fire alarms and faults a repeater panel must be installed in the wheelhouse. It will be connected to the smoke detection panel only by a 4-wire cable. /aksisfire
FOAM EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM 11 With a versatile foaming agent range, Aksis offers safe and flexible application. Perfectly aligned components are supplied in line with the individual needs of clients and according to respective fire protection requirements. FOAM SPRINKLERS AND NOZZLES Aksis supplies sprinklers for the production of low expansion foam, Aksis also specialises in stainless steel nozzles for low expansion foam extinguishing systems.
12 HIGH EXPANSION FOAM GENERATOR Generators produce high expansion foam, which is used to protect storage areas. MINIFOG WATERMIST SYSTEM (Local Application System) MINIFOG WATERMIST SYSTEM (Local Application System) Ships require particularly high standards of safety on account of the particular conditions at sea, This applies especially to fire protection, and in particular in and around the engine room, which is home to fuel lines and other supply lines such as those that feed the main engines, auxiliary diesel engines, boiler burners, fuel separators and pumps - all these are typical areas of risk which must be considered when choosing an extinguishing system. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) therefore recommends a per manent, quick activation fire fighting system to protect equipment on board in addition to the total flooding fire suppression system. /aksisfire
FIRE DETECTION AND ALARM SYSTEM 13 Fire detection systems are essential components of a responsible safety management concept each object and each area of use holds special risks and requirements. Aksis provides for the optimum detection of fires and the perfect. Safe and fast fire detection is an essential component of a reliable fire protection concept. The earlier a fire is detected, the smaller the hazards and damages caused by the fire. Here, customized planning is of special importance~ The cooperation of fire protection control panel, detectors and alarms facilitates a fast reaction in case of fire - ideally, by automatic activation of an extinguishing system. In this way you will have the situation under control immediately. WATER SPRAY SYSTEM If conditions are such that extremely rapid spreading of a fire can be expected, then Aksis water-spray extinguishing systems can provide maximum safety. Water-spray extinguishing systems operate with open extinguisher nozzles which, in the event of fire, distribute the extinguishing water over the entire protected area, the quantity of extinguishant needed being minimal. Spray extinguishing increases the surface area of the extinguishing water, entrains the heat of in addition to this cooling effect there is a smothering effect because the steam produced impedes the oxygen supply to the base of the fire. Water-spray extinguishing systems are designed for space or equipment protection. In the case of space protection the extinguishing water is distributed evenly across the whole area of the fire hazard. The extinguishing nozzles are therefore arranged evenly spaced at ceiling level, In the case of equipment protection systems, defined objects particularly subject to fire hazard are provided with water spray for protection or for preventive cooling. The extinguishing nozzles are therefore arranged to be specifically aimed at the object. For tall objects they may also be installed at several levels.
14 DEEP FAT FRYER SYSTEM The KS compact extinguishing system has been speci cally designed for use in catering kitchens. The re detection elements repond the moment the rst small ame occurs, and the re is promptly extinguished before serious damage occurs. DRY POWDER SYSTEM The extinguishing powders used in powder extinguishing systems are highly efficient, quick-acting extinguishants. The sudden extinguishing effect of the powder cloud is caused by the suffocation effect and the anticatalytic effect, a chemical intervention into the combustion process. Extinguishing powders mainly consist of non-poisonous inorganic salts mixed with waterproofing and pouring agents. They are used for fires with solid, liquid or gaseous substances and for metal fires, thus, they are used for fire classification A, B, C and D. /aksisfire
GAS DETECTION SYSTEM 15 SIL-1 Certified MX 43 is a Flexible, High Quality, Easy to Use Gas Detection System Fully scalable, and designed to functional safety performance level 1 standards, the MX 43 is an analog and digital controller that continuously measures and controls gases in the atmosphere. The MX 43 gas detector manages both digital lines and analog channels, and covers all needs for a wide variety of gas monitoring applications. The MX 43 digital technology allows up to 32 detectors to be distributed on 8 lines for increased cost savings. Toxic and Combustible Gas Detector Designed for the detection of explosive gases, toxic gases or oxygen, this combustible gas detector comes with a Wheatstone bridge output (OLC 100) or 4-20mA output (OLCT 100). Whatever your application 3M offers a solution: catalytic, electrochemical, semiconductor, or poison control version. ATEX approved, these detectors are available in explosion safe or intrinsically safe versions. In addition to this range the OLC/OLCT 100 offers an infrared sensor, which allows it to be used in more severe environmental conditions, where the presence of poisons could harm the use of a catalytic sensor. With a 3-year warranty on the sensor and electronics, the OLCT 100 XP-IR will provide reliability and extended lifetime. With this new line of detectors, 3M broadens its product range with products that combine reliability, durability and ease of use. SIL 2 certified according to EN 50402, the 100 series is very safe. As an example the Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD) of combustible versions is 1 out of 418 for the catalytic version and 1 out of 2857 for the infrared version. GD10P Gas Detector The GD10P has been designed with features that provide an effective response to the detection of gas hazards in a wide range of industrial environments from boiler plant rooms to offshore petrochemical installations. These infrared gas detectors differ from all other models, because they utilize silicon based solid-state infrared sources. The complete optomechanical design and construction is so stable that an ultra fast speed of response can be achieved while providing unparalleled service life and detector stability, thus saving on maintenance and service costs. We offer the longest combined detector and IR source warranty on the market. For retrofit applications, a bridge interface is available allowing the detector to be connected directly to catalytic systems, using the existing cabling and control modules. Supplied with worldwide performance and hazardous area approvals. Suitable for use in SIL 2 & SIL 3 systems. An industry standard HART interface is used for configuration of the optical fast response time and special fault levels as well as access to extended maintenance data.
16 OneU FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS Functioning IT systems should not be taken for granted. Yet for companies that have to ensure a high level of data availability, with ever more powerful systems, this reliability is often a matter of survival. High thermal loads are generated especially in high-tech 19 racks with a compact design, which may eventually lead, in the worst case, to the outbreak of a fire. OneU fire protection systems offer optimal protection in these circumstances. These devices are truly innovative, with minimal space requirements for a full range of equipment. /aksisfire
