1 ADMINISTRATOR S WEEKLY REPORT # September 12 th through 18 th, 2011 CALLS FOR SERVICE % This Week 2011 YTD Change Fire % Aid 138 5, % Other 35 1, % Total 184 6,563 0.% Last Week: Administrator Robertson and Director Horaski attended the annual Washington Cities Insurance Authority Audit & Review on Monday, September 12 th at VRFA personnel, led by DC Gerber, participated in the regional Integrated Emergency Management Course from Monday, September 12 th to Thursday, September 15 th. The monthly VRFA Civil Service Commission meeting was held on Tuesday, September 13 th at Auburn City Hall. Director Horaski and Finance Staff attended the Washington Finance Officers Association Training Conference in Spokane, Tuesday, September 13 th to Friday, September 16 th. Administrator Robertson and Auburn School Superintendent Kip Herren met to discuss issues of mutual interest between the VRFA and school district on Thursday, September 15 th. On Thursday, September 15 th, Administrator Robertson attended the Community Leader Luncheon at the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce. The Open House and Dedication of Lea Hill Fire Station 34 was held on Saturday, September 17 th at Station 34. The dedication ceremony began at noon, while the open house ran from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The community attendance was very high and they enjoyed several demonstrations.

2 This Week: DC Gerber will attend a Computer Aided Dispatch demonstration at Valley Communications Center (VCC) on Monday, September 19 th. Battalion Chief O Brien, Captain Connell, and ASM Palermo will present their draft work on the development of the new Performance Review documents to Senior Staff on Tuesday, September 20 th. Senior Staff will hold their weekly meeting on Tuesday, September 20 th at DC Gerber will attend the King County Fire Chiefs meeting on Wednesday, September 21 st at Seattle Training Center. Administrator Robertson will meet with Nancy Wyatt, President and COO of the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, September 21 st to discuss issues of mutual interest. The Finance Committee will conduct a Special Meeting, for the purpose of receiving the proposed 2012 budgets, on Wednesday, September 21 st at The monthly Labor Management Meeting will be held on Thursday, September 22 nd at 911 Requests for Services / Customer Service: Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Monday, September 12 th at 4:59 p.m., firefighters assisted an adult male with a rapid heart rate. The patient was found to be in stable medical condition and left at home. He was advised to see his doctor for follow up. Aid Call: (Pacific) On Tuesday, September 13 th at 4:29 p.m., firefighters assisted an adult male who had a brief episode of unconsciousness after sustaining a minor cut to his lower leg. The patient was transported by private ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital. Car Fire: (Auburn) On Wednesday, September 14 th at 3:46 p.m., firefighters responded to a single vehicle car fire at the intersection of Kersey Way SE and Evergreen Way SE. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and contain the damage to the engine compartment.

3 Aid Call: (Lakeland Hills) On Thursday, September 15 th at 11:30 a.m., firefighters assisted an adult male who fell from a scaffolding. The patient was evaluated and transported by private ambulance to Auburn Regional Medical Center (ARMC). AFA: (Auburn) On Friday, September 16 th at 9:14 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to an Automatic Fire Alarm at Ilalko Elementary school. The fire alarm was activated due to smoke from cooking food in the kitchen. The alarm was reset. Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Saturday, September 17 th at 4:17 p.m., firefighters assisted an adult male with injuries from an ATV accident. King County Medics did a patient evaluation and the patient was transported to Valley Medical Center via private ambulance for further evaluation. Aid Call: (Auburn) Sunday, September 18 th at 7:09 a.m., firefighters assisted an adult male complaining of back pain secondary to a fall. The patient was evaluated and treated by the firefighters and transported to ARMC by a private ambulance. Training Division Activities: Training hours for the week: Training hours year to date: 10, Training Activity Zone 3 Truck drill Administer 7 practical JATC FF1C tests Review 1 minor non-injury accident Weekly technical rescue training for all crews Review of JATC workbooks and objectives EVIP training Auto extrication drill Emergency Management drill Week 2 for recruits at Bates Fire Academy Fire Marshal s Office: Staff completed eight (8) new construction inspections. Conley & Associates Big Ol Used Car Sale, TMP , 1101 SuperMall Way SW, Auburn Staff attended zero (0) Pre-Application meetings: Zero (0) Auburn, zero (0) Pacific and zero (0) Algona. Staff completed five (5) business license reviews. Staff completed thirty one (31) annual inspections, twenty four (24) in Auburn, seven (7) in Pacific and zero (0) in Algona. Assistant Fire Marshal Lee attended City of Auburn weekly Business License meeting FMO staff attended monthly Washington State Association of Fire Marshal s Webinar on Dust Explosions. FMO staff continued their study on Inspector II certification.

5 Public Education PIEO Staff taught three fire safety classes for approximately 70 employees of Costco in Auburn as part of their Safety Week. A Fire Stoppers intervention was conducted. PIEO Staff participated in a Disaster Drill with the City of Auburn. Preparation work for the Station 34 Open House and Dedication continued throughout the week, concluding with a successful event on Saturday. Attendance was estimated at 600. Five smoke alarms were given to residents of the Lea Hill area. Fire Investigation: During this reporting period, the South King Fire Investigation Task Force (SKFITF) responded to five (5) calls for service in the VFRA response area. Three vehicle fires were determined to be accidental. A SE Auburn building under construction was the target of arson on two separate occasions. Investigators are working with Auburn Police Department on follow-up investigations. VRFA/FMO staff is working with construction supervisors to ensure security is in place, and that fire suppression and alarm systems are brought on-line ASAP. Planning and Logistics: Minor corrective work continues on the new Lea Hill Station 34 punch list. P&L provided logistical support for the Lea Hill Station 34 Open House and Dedication Ceremony, on Saturday, September 17 th. The first fire station kitchen table was delivered to Station 34 on September 15 th. The table features the VRFA logo and the station s identifying numbers on each side of the logo.
