2 Application note Information: This is a guide to demonstrate how to set up ZXSe fire panel to meet basic BS7273 part 4 category A requirements. Basic BS Category A compliant C&E example: At simplest and most basic level a compliant system could be configured to release fire doors under following conditions: a) In event of a fire being detected. b) In event of any fault on system. c) In event of any disablement on system. Although this method will satisfy BS7273 Category A requirements; it means that doors will only be held open if whole system were fault free, with no disablements and no fires. 1) Set all Input devices to zone 1 2) Setup output devices into zone1 and ensure module outputs are set to 1 3) Set ringing pattern 1 to zone 1 4) Set all output modules and sounders to ringing pattern 1 and continuous events to 10 for output modules.

3 The panel must now be configured through panel menu system as follows: Panel fault event configuration: In panel enter commission mode ->events -> General and set Fault event to 10. Panel disablement event configuration: In panel enter commission mode ->events -> General and set Disablement event to 10. This will configure panel to release door modules upon a Fire, General fault or General disablement. Zoned BS Category A compliant systems At next level of complexity, when a building is divided into zones a suitable approach is to make fires in a given zone release doors only in that zone. It is likely that some held doors may not be within a zone but rar located on border between two zones, refore release of door may be required if an event were to occur in eir zone. This can be achieved by using individual events to release output modules and is not covered in this application guide. Consideration should also be made to controls such as gas shut off valves which should be placed in a separate zone to door release modules. 3 Zone BS Category A compliant C&E example 1) Setup devices into correct zones 2) Setup output devices into correct zones and ensure module outputs are set to 1 3) Setup ringing pattern 1 for zone 1 4) Setup ringing pattern 2 for zone 2

4 5) Setup ringing pattern 3 for zone 3 5) Using output editor assign modules to correct ringing pattern and set continuous events to 10 which will be used for General fault and General disablement triggers. The panel must now be configured through panel menu system as follows: Panel fault event configuration: In panel enter commission mode ->events -> General and set Fault event to 10. Panel disablement event configuration: In panel enter commission mode ->events -> General and set Disablement event to 10. This will configure panel to release door modules upon a Fire, General fault or General disablement. 240Vac door systems The BS7273 module is preliminary designed to interface with 12 24VDC door systems but with addition of an external DC Supply and an external mains rated relay 240V door holders can be employed.

5 (The BS7273 module has built in fly back/emf protection refore an external protection diode is not required.) The external DC supply is used to power BS7273 module and drive external relay. It is important not to use BS7273 modules auxiliary relay output to control external relay as if feed to relay were shorted this would have same effect as holding doors open. The auxiliary relay can only be used for indication purposes only. A suggested suitable PSU and enclosure is Honeywell HLS-PSU-TR20 (2 amp 24VDC). (The relay can be mounted inside enclosure) Important: The transformer rectifier output when unloaded may reach voltages of up to 29V please ensure that relays used can support this voltage. A suggested suitable mains relay: Door supply interfacing and power implications The BS7273 module is not an addressable loop powered module, it is a module that monitors loop communications and door power supply for faults; it has been designed so that it has a minimal impact on fire alarm panel and loop and must refore be powered by 12 24V DC supply that powers door holders. Care must be taken to design system so that it can supply enough power to drive door holders and BS7273 modules. Each BS7273 module draws between 20 35mA depending on input voltage and configuration.

6 Using auxiliary relay for feedback to eir an input module or indicator The auxiliary relay can be used to provide feedback that BS7273 module has released doors. The relay will open when doors are released. The doors will be released automatically under control of BS7273 module under following conditions: 1) There is a loop communication fault 2) The door supply voltage is low. 3) The module control (pins 5 &6) are open circuit. The CIE may not be aware of some of conditions and you may want to use an input module to indicate this. One way to accomplish this is to use relay output of BS7273 module and feed it to input of a loop module such as a M221E as shown below.
