3 Laser Safety Officer All LSOs know that if you are at a University, National Lab, your firm has a product development component are examples where your user laser applications will be changing over time Laser use is fluid The LSO cannot be stagnant!

4 The LSO needs to review the content of institutional training Due to the fluid nature of laser use and development Examples: Add information about 800 nm beam perception Making users aware of ultrafast eyewear limitations Use of Carbon Resin breadboards

5 To do ones job it is important to keep up on changes

6 How does the LSO obtain additional training and experience? Experience is an easy approach: time on the job and interaction with user community But with the constant drain on training dollars and increase demands for the LSOs time, how can one obtain more knowledge/training? There are a number of options, some free, some at a dollar cost But let me be clear without increasing ones knowledge base the quality of the job one provides to ones users will faultier

28 All sorts of groups offer these Some are generic Webinars Others are more of the capability of a product, such as a power meter Many are down loadable afterwards Many allow questions to be submitted Photonics Media & Laser Focus World have a library of these that are free Some webinars require a registration fee ( I am seeing less of these)

29 Increasing the LSOs knowledge Becoming a better, a more well knowledgeable LSO is not just reviewing or uping ones laser safety skills Really it means so much more In doing so not only increases ones value But value to user community as well as to ones management
