7 2.1 Glossary Keypad Your alarm system is controlled through the keypad. You turn your system on and off here. The POWERBRICK ALARM Panel communicates system status through the keypad beeper and status lights on the keypad. Detectors These are the eyes that tell the alarm panel what is happening in the area of coverage and sometimes referred to as sensors. Alarm Panel Sometimes called the control panel and are the brains of the system similar to a computer that processes all the information. Arming Turning the alarm system on and sometimes referred to as setting the alarm. You have an exit delay time to leave of 30 seconds. Disarming Activation Turning the alarm system off and sometimes referred to as unsetting the alarm. You have an entry delay time of 60 seconds to turn off the alarm. The sirens sounding off when a detector has picked up a change in condition sometimes referred to as going into alarm condition. Tamper When one of the devices has been interfered with without the correct and authorised procedure. User Codes Every person who operates the alarm must have a separate code to set/unset the alarm. Siren The screaming voice of the system that warns you about fire or burglar alarms and can be an internal or external siren. Status Icons On the key pad and these provide instant visual feedback on the status of your POWERBRICK ALARM system. Zones Voice Code Normally each sensor is assigned a zone number so you can identify which zone has activated e.g. Zone 1 may be the PIR Detector in the lounge area. When calling the monitoring station or the monitoring station rings the site, every user of the alarm system must have a unique 4 digit code so the monitoring station can release information or verify that you are authorised to be on site. Trouble The control panel will indicate through the keypad lamps if any system trouble (possible fault) conditions are found. Copyright PowerBrick International Inc Page 7

8 2.2 User Codes POWERBRICK ALARMs are capable of storing up to 30 separate user codes. Each user code may be two, three or four digits in length. We recommend using 4 digits for better security. The default user1 code is 1111 and is used during the installation and testing stage. This should be changed via your computer or keypad to your own selection as soon as possible. See section You can use your internet browser to access the POWERBRICK ALARM via your local LAN connection. The default IP address is , however DHCP is turned on by default so looking up the Router DHCP list may be required to find the assigned IP address. The Default User Login Name is user1 and the Default Password is user1 All users must have their own user code assigned so you can identify who is authorised to use the alarm Code Change at the Keypad ONLY USER CODE 1 can be changed at the Keypad all others require web access to the PB300 system. METHOD: Press and hold the F3 for 3 seconds <beep><beep> then press 0 enter the <old user code (4digits)>then <new user code (4digits)> then # ACTION Call your selected CMS ASAP with the information on the Customer Registration Form and System Information Record in the forms section 6. OPTIONAL For adding, changing or deleting a user code call the partner CMS or installer. During the free monitoring period this maybe provided free of charge. Outside the free monitoring period, a service fee may apply for any changes via remote access if available. 2.3 To Arm or Disarm Arming the System Enter a valid four digit user code then # on the keypad e.g then # If all zones are clear, the keypad sounds a repeating sequence of three short beeps for the duration of the exit delay and the Keypad ARMED Lock Icon locks. At the end of the exit delay the system is now armed. If a zone fault or potential alarm condition exists during arming the zone(s) icon will display the fault. This indicates that one or more of the zones are not secured. The alarm should be disarmed, the problem located (possibly an open door or window) and the system re-armed. Quick Arm Enter 1 then # on the keypad 1 # The quick arm option gives you a faster setting option rather than your 4 digit user code. Disarming the System Enter a valid four digit user code then * then * The keypad will beep twice and the Keypad DISARMED Lock Icon unlocks. 2.4 The Alarm has Activated If your alarm has been tampered with, the PIR detector has sensed something or a smoke detector has activated the Bell indicator on the keypad light will flash and the siren will sound continuously for 5 minutes then reset itself ready for the next alarm condition. If you are on site check which zone has activated at the keypad, verify the situation and carry out your emergency evacuation plan as required. If you set the alarm off accidentally (false alarm) unset the alarm ASAP then you should immediately phone the monitoring station to avoid an unnecessary response. If you unset the alarm immediately after an activation the monitoring station normally does not phone as an authorised user has unset the system. If you arrive at the premises and the Bell indicator and a zone # on the keypad is flashing, this will indicate an alarm condition has occurred. Unset as normal then check which zone has activated and try to identify the reason. Note the zone # for any zones which have alarmed, these will flash until the next arming cycle. Copyright PowerBrick International Inc Page 8

9 2.5 Keypad Status Indicators Mains The Mains lamp is on when mains power is on. The Mains light extinguishes to indicate the mains power supply to the alarm panel has failed. To remove this indicator from the display, you must first arm then disarm the system. Area Identifier The area identifier symbol is the four segment box at the lower right hand side of the LCD display. This symbol displays the area(s) and flashed during the exit period and is on steady when the alarm is armed. System Fault The System Fault indicator will flash when a fault has occurred. See section 2.6 for more information on system faults. 2.6 System Trouble When the system is disarmed, and the System Fault indicator is flashing, or the keypad is beeping approximately every 30 seconds, press * on the keypad. Press any button to exit fault mode and silence the fault. 11 2.10 Smoke Detectors If your installer has fitted a smoke detector(s) to your system it will be connected to a 24 hour zone, thus ensuring that this device is always active. In the event of an activation or detector malfunction your alarm system will activate. Enter a valid user code at the keypad and all sirens will be silenced. If the activation or malfunction is repeated you should immediately contact you alarm service or Installation Company and report the fault. Smoke Detector Reset To reset Smoke detectors, press F3 on the keypad for 1 second (momentary). Reset all smoke alarm activation s by entering a valid user code. Once activated, some latching style smoke sensors connected to alarm panels, must be reset through the alarm keypad. Check with your installer if this type of sensor is used in your system. When a latching smoke detector activates, they will stay in alarm until they are reset. This allows the end user to determine exactly which smoke detector has activated if there is more than one detector in a particular installation. The detector which has activated can be determined by looking for a constant red light either on the top or the side of the smoke detector. To reset the smoke detectors, press F3 Key on the keypad for 1 second (momentary). This will remove power from the smoke detectors for 5 seconds which will reset them Keypad Sounds If your installer has fitted a Keypad certain sounds may need to be disabled. Keypad Silence Beeping Hold down 6 Key until beeps then release the key and two beeps are heard to confirm keypad beeping for panel fault conditions is in the OFF mode. Hold down 6 Key until beeps then release and three beeps are heard to restore keypad fault beeping is changed to the ON mode. For example, when installing a PB300 with no internet connection available, Hold down 6 Key command to silence ( turn Off ) and stop beeping when the internet connection is in a fault condition. 12 3. PREVENTING FALSE ALARMS False alarms cause unnecessary and wasteful response, annoyance to neighbours who may become less helpful in a real situation and could lead to an extra financial cost to you with a guard, ambulance or fire service charging you a fee. Plus it can make you reluctant to turn on the system leaving your family and house unprotected. The high number of false alarms is a concern to the emergency response providers to the extent that a non-police attendance policy to burglar alarms was introduced. We recommend having your security system regularly serviced at least once a year by an Alarm Service Company. Most alarm systems typically have two types of detectors: PIR Detector: Smoke Detector: Commonly known as a PIR, short for passive infra-red. They detect people moving in an immediate room and are normally placed in the corner. These sense the presence of smoke and normally mounted in the middle of a ceiling at the highest point. 3.1 PIR False Alarm Prevention Close and lock all external doors and windows before setting the alarm. Draughts can move curtains, plants, and objects hanging from the ceiling, etc. Make sure any hanging signs/mobile/decorations are not obscuring the detectors vision. Clean away any insects or cobwebs near the PIR. DO NOT WASH THE PIR WITH A WET CLOTH. Do not spray the detector lens with fly spray or spray cleaner as this can damage it. Small insects can be hard to see and may require closer inspection. Train all users how to switch the alarm on and off and what to do if the alarm activates. Protect sensors by covering with a bag when renovating and remove each day at the end of building work to reinstate the detector. 3.2 Smoke False Alarm Prevention Do not place in kitchen, near BBQs or wood fires or where steam from a bathroom will flow near the smoke detector. DO NOT WASH THE DETECTOR WITH A WET CLOTH. Do not spray the detector with fly spray or spray cleaner as this can damage it. Avoid dusty environments e.g. saws and grinders causing dust. When doing any building renovations wrap the detector in a bag and tape it. At the end of each day vacuum up any dust then remove the protective bag to reinstate the detector.
