They eat a lot of sweetcorn in the USA. It s their favourite vegetable. We use sweetcorn to make bread, breakfast cereal and popcorn. We can make plastic from sweetcorn too! This pen is made from sweetcorn. It s very ecological. Insects are the smallest animals in a garden. There are thousands of different species in our gardens. We can help birds in our garden by building bird boxes and giving them food. Sometimes birds find it difficult to find food, especially in winter. There are lots of different foods we can put in our gardens, for example, bread, rice, apples, seeds and nuts. It s also a good idea to put out a bowl of water, but not milk milk is bad for birds. Some insects, like butterflies and bees, are useful. They fly from flower to flower and they carry pollen on their legs. Plants need pollen to make new seeds. Other insects are bad for plants. Some insects are in danger. Their habitats are disappearing and we kill them with insecticide. Insect hotels are a safe place for insects to live.
