Federal Blvd. Trees: Make sure you have enough room for your tree to grow to its mature size. Consider overhead power lines, nearby structures, any adjacent curbs, sidewalks or poured concrete pads when choosing a location for your tree. Firemaster Black Gum (Nyssa sylvatica PRP1 ) New foliage growth is a bright red, turning dark green during summer and then fiery red in fall. Max. Height: feet Max. Spread: feet Water: Keep moist for the season after planting and add an organic mulch to maintain soil moisture levels. After established, his tree has carefree watering needs. Shumard Oak (Quercus shumardii) A stately, strong and long-lived tree with beautiful fall color, the Shumard oak is a great selection for yards. This adaptable species has been successfully grown in urban areas where air pollution, poor drainage, compacted soil, and/or drought are common. Max. Height: feet Max. Spread: feet Water: Grows in well-drained soils, it prefers normal moisture, has some drought tolerance.

2 Indian Magic Crabapple (Malus Indian Magic ) A round-headed small tree. Red buds open into single, deep pink flowers. Small glossy, red fruit changes to rosy-orange and remains on tree all winter providing food for wildlife. EASY TO GROW! Max. Height: feet Max. Spread: feet Water/Soil: Best grown in medium moisture, well-drained, acidic loams. Established trees have some drought tolerance. Saucer Magnolia (Magnolia x soulangeana) The stunning early spring blossoms have been said to open like a thousand porcelain goblets, and lush summertime leaves are dark green and leathery adding nice contrast to silvery-gray bark. Max. Height: feet Max. Spread: 25 feet Water/Soil: Grows in acidic, loamy, moist, rich, sandy, well-drained and clay soils. It has some drought tolerance.

3 Shrubs: Choose two shrubs that will thrive in the site you have in mind. Consider shade and sun needs and how large the plant will grow, whether it has thorns or not and what its seasonal characteristics are. Incrediball Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens Abetwo ) This spectacular improved version of the native Annabelle hydrangea produces huge, full flower heads, and is both reliable and beautiful. Flowers open green, then mature to white before fading to green again. This very cold hardy shrub blooms on new growth, so even very cold winters won t keep it from blooming. Max. Height: 4-5 feet Max. Spread: 4 feet Exposure: Partial to Full Sun Water: Best in moist, well drained soil. Bloomberang Dark Purple Lilac (Syringa x SMSJBP7 ) This beauty blooms in spring, then reblooms from mid-summer through fall. This vigorous grower will add beauty and fragrance to gardens from spring to fall. Max. Height: 4-6 feet Max. Spread: 4-6 feet Water: Once established, drought tolerant but requires regular moisture for best performance.

4 Sunny Knock Out Rose (Rosa x Radsunny ) These fragrant, bright yellow flowers mature to a cream color and are produced continuously and profusely from Spring until Fall. With superior drought tolerance once established, they have the toughness and resistance for which the family is known. Max. Height: 4 feet Max. Spread: 4 feet Soils: Adapts to most soil conditions. Red Knock Out Rose (Rosa Radrazz ) A maintenance free rose that continually produces self-cleaning, candy apple red flowers. Green foliage with blue and maroon highlights turning deep purple in fall. Unsurpassed resistance to black spot leaf disease. Max. Height: 3-4 feet Max. Spread: 3-4 feet Water: Water regularly, when top 3 in. of soil is dry.
