2 Trees Forest Silver Aspen Populus tremuloides Driefest x Zone 2 This Aspen has an upright pyramidal form. Fast growing and zone 2 hardy. Very uniform growth habit. Yellow/Orange fall color. Korean Maple Clump Acer pseudosieboldianum 20 x 15 Zone 4 This maple is similar in looks of that of a Japanese maple. Forest green fingered leaves have an outstanding fall coloring. The fall colors range from yellow, orange, scarlet, and red, all on one plant! State Street Maple Acer miyabei Morton x Zone 4 This maple has an upright oval growth habit. Dark green leaves turn yellow in the fall. Prefers slightly acidic soil. Bark will develop ridges with age and is grey in color. Northern Herald Redbud Cercis Canadensis Pink Trim x Zone 3 NDSU introduction. This winter hardy Redbud produces abundant pink flowering in the spring. Great tree for smaller areas. 3 Trees Phantom Hydrangea Tree Form Hydrangea paniculata Phantom 8-10 x 6-8 Zone 4 Extra-large, creamy-white mid-summer flower panicles become pink with age and are possibly the fullest flower heads of the paniculata selections.. It grows best in full sun in a Copper Curls Lilac Syringa pekinensis 'SunDak' x Zone 3 NDSU introduction. A small tree with showy creamy white blossoms in mid summer. This lilac also has eye catching copper/orange exfoliating bark. Tolerant to most soil types. Photo courtesy of NDSU Northern Tribute River Birch Betula nigra 'Dickinson' 35 x 30 Zone 3 An outstanding landscape specimen with its upright rounded habit and ivory bark exfoliating to copper-bronze. Northern Tribute has shown superior adaptability to stresses of the Upper Midwest and Northern Plains. It has shown no signs of winter injury or iron chlorosis in alkaline soils and has performed well in compacted, dry soils. *Description & picture from NDSU Spring Welcome Magnolia Magnolia x loebneri Ruth 20 x 20 Zone 3 NDSU introduction. This magnolia blooms reliably even after early spring frosts. Spring Welcome is dense, well branched with flowers that are pale pink in bud, gradually opening to pristine white with tepals. *Description and picture from NDSU Regal Prince Oak Quercus x warei Long x Zone 4 A hybrid oak selected for its vigorous growth and narrow upright habit. The leaves are dark green with a silvery underside. This oak tolerates a wide range of soil conditions.

4 Low Scape Mound Chokeberry Aronia melanocarpa UCONNAM x Zone 3 This low growing chokeberry has thick glossy green foliage covered in white blooms by mid-spring. Foliage turns red in the fall and is an easy grower. *Picture courtesy of Proven winners Shrubs Firedance Dogwood Cornus sericea Bailadeline 3-4 x 4-5 Zone 2 A compact and uniform growing dogwood. This shrub will have white spring flowers, with the foliage turning a nice red-purple color in fall. Stems turn red in winter. Little Moses Burning Bush Euonymus alatus 'Odom' 3 x 3 Zone 4 One of the smallest varieties of burning bush. This shrub has vibrant fall color of red to pink. This shrub is very adaptable and versatile; ideal for all those tight spots in the garden. Nordic Inkberry Holly Ilex glabra Chamzin 3-4 x 3-4 Zone 3 A hardy male selection of Holly that has glossy green foliage. Works well as a small hedge, mass planting or accent plant. 5 Perennials Rain Dance Big Bluestem Andropogon g. Rain Dance 4-5 x 3-4 Zone 3 A showy big bluestem with red-tipped foliage that turns maroon in the fall. Red seed heads appear on red stems in late summer. Does well in hot and dry areas, once established it is nearly drought tolerant. Red October Big Bluestem Andropogon g. Red October 4-5 x 2 Zone 3 Deep green foliage turns a dark purple in late summer. Once cooler weather comes the foliage will turn again to a vivid scarlet red. Lighting Strike Grass Calamagrostis Lighting Strike 3 x 2 Zone 4 A new twist on calamagrostis! Lighting Strike has creamy white centers that are edged in green.
