2 KIRKTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR ALL FLOWER SHOWS 1. The annual membership fee of ten dollars ($10.00) entitles the member to compete in the Flower Show. Please bring membership card. 2. Kirkton Horticultural Society will pay the $2.00 Jr. Membership fee. 3. All exhibits must be the property of the exhibitor and owned for at least three (3) months. Plants must not be lifted from the soil and potted, but grown in a pot. Exception DESIGN CLASSES flowers etc. may be purchased. 4. An exhibitor may make one entry only in any class. 5. Where a certain number of blooms, etc. is specified, the exact number must be shown to qualify. 6. Any bud showing colour is considered a bloom. 7. In all classes where there is only one entry, the exhibit may be awarded first, second, third or any other prize according to merit. 8. Exhibitors supply all their own containers. 9. The Society will not be responsible for any damage or breakage of containers or any other item used in exhibiting before, during or after the show. Please claim exhibits and/or containers immediately after the show. 10. Devices for holding or supporting plant material, such as pin holders, chicken wire, florist s wire, aquapics, tape, oasis etc., may be used. 11. Entries for summer show will be received from 7 8 p.m. the night before, and between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon the day of the show. No entries will be accepted after 12:00 noon. Entries for the Spring and Christmas shows will be accepted between 5:30 7:00 p.m. evening of show. 12. When judging commences, only officials of the show will be allowed in the judging area. 13. Preparation and judging of exhibits refer to Publication Ontario Judging Standard Booklet, available for $ In design classes, all plant material must be fresh unless otherwise stated. 15. Artificial plant material is NOT PERMITTED unless stated in class description. 16. Scale of points for judging all classes: 1 st - 3points; 2 nd 2 points; 3 rd 1 point. SPECIAL PRIZE Kirkton Horticultural Society Special 1 st ; 2 nd, and 3 rd highest total points for the year will be awarded at the December meeting. CONDITIONING YOUR FLOWERS FOR SHOW For fresh crisp entries, cut flowers and foliage in cool of the day and put in pail of warm water. Leave for several hours or overnight in a cool place (i.e. basement). Remember to fresh cut stem before showing. 2

Any plant(s) grown from leaf or cutting, same cultivar, one container. 7. Any flowering houseplant. 8. Any houseplant grown for foliage. Section B, C and D Prizes: 1 st $5:00; 2 nd - $4.00; 3 rd - $3.00 Section B - DESIGN - wall background is light green In any Design class, flowers may be purchased and accessories* may be used. Welcome Spring a planted window box of material suitable for outdoors. 12. Tea Time a design using a cup and saucer. 13. A View from a Hammock a 4 x 6 photo, matted or mounted. Section C - Novice an exhibitor who has never won a first prize in a design division. 14. Simply Spring an arrangement of spring flowers.. Section D - Junior Age 15 years and under. Please put age on entry tags. 15.
