3 Arctic Jade Maple Acer pseudosieboldianum IsIAJ Size: 20'H x 15'W Zone 4 Form: broad upright Part of the Jack Frost series from Iseli Nursery, which offers the durability and hardiness of Korean Maple with a Japanese Maple look. Arctic Jade has large, deeply cut leaves which are green throughout the growing season, changing to orange and red in fall. Plant in lieu of a Japanese Maple in harsh climates. Ice Dragon Maple Acer pseudosieboldianum IsIID Size: 8H x 10'W Zone 4 Foliage: variegated Another selection from the Jack Frost series, Ice Dragon offers the visual appeal of a Japanese Maple, but is extremely hardy to withstand harsh climates. Its finely cut leaves emerge orange-red, maturing to green, with fall bringing yellow, orange and red colors. Its undulating branch structure is a feature during the winter months. Its dark green foliage is glossy, remaining attractive all season, and explodes into deep red tones for fall. 4 O Neill Red Horsechestnut Aesculus x carnea O Neill Red Size: 35'H x 25'W Zone 5 O Neill Red produces large, 12 panicles of red flowers in spring, reportedly a deeper color than Briotti. Flowers are showy, and attractive to hummingbirds. This rounded tree offers dense shade, and is a lovely choice for residential landscapes. Photo courtesy of Blue Heron Nursery Standing Ovation Serviceberry Amelanchier alnifolila Obelisk Size: 15'H x 4'W Zone 2 Form: upright Standing Ovation is similar to other cultivars in that it produces loads of white flowers in spring, and displays impressive red to orange fall color. Unlike other cultivars, however, you can fit this one into smaller areas. Its ascending branches create an upright, narrowly oval form. Dutchman s Pipe has large, heart shaped leaves that will twine to offer an excellent screen for arbors and trellises. Interesting pipe-shaped flowers are produced within its foliage.
5 Blondy Wintercreeper Euonymus fortunei Interbolwi PP10424 Size: 18-24"H x 18-24"W Zone 5 Foliage: variegated Form: mounded Blondy is a tidy, mounded form of Wintercreeper, that does not have the tendency to sprawl like other cultivars. Its bright yellow foliage is edged with green and its variegation is stable. A nice low maintenance shrub for gardens. Incrediball Blush Hydrangea Hydrangea arborescens NCHA4 PP28280 Size: 4-5'H x 4-5'W Zone 3 Form: mounded A new take on color from the classic Annabelle white Hydrangea. Incrediball Blush has huge rounded flowers, which are a silvery-pink. This reblooming cultivar produces flowers all season, and its stout stems keep the flowers upright. Invincibelle Spirit II Hydrangea Hydrangea arborescens NCHA2 PP28316 Size: 3-4'H x 3-4'W Zone 3 Foliage: variegated Form: mounded New and improved! Invincibelle Spirit II has larger flowers than the original, with darker foliage and stronger stems. Its a strong rebloomer, with rich pink flowers produced from mid-summer into fall.
6 Invincibelle Wee White Hydrangea Hydrangea arborescens NCHA5 PPPAF Size: 12-30"H x 24-36"'W Zone 3 Form: mounded The first dwarf Annabelle type Hydrangea! The floriferous little plant blooms from early summer to frost, with its white flowers held on supportive stems. An excellent solution for smaller gardens or large containers. Invincibelle Ruby Hydrangea Hydrangea arborescens NCHA3 PP28317 Size: 3-4'H x 2-3'W Zone 3 Form: mounded Invincibelle Ruby has a unique two-toned effect! Its large flowers are ruby-red with silvery pinks tones, giving a nice contrast to its dark green foliage. A rebloomer, this selection will bloom from mid-summer into fall. Star Power Juniper Juniperus x J.N. Select Blue Size: 20'H x 10'W Zone 3 Foliage: blue-green Form: broad upright This upright Juniper is a fast grower, exhibiting a strong columnar form. Its dense foliage is bluish green, and is attractive throughout the year. Star Power is excellent as a vertical accent in the garden, and is good as a deer resistant screen. 7 MaacNificent Maackia Maackia amurensis JFS-Schichtel1 Size: 30'H x 22'W Zone 3 Form: upright vase Amur Maackia is a beautiful tree for small gardens. MaacNificent is an extremely vigorous grower, with a well branched, vase-shaped head. Its foliage emerges green with a silvery pubescence, followed by racemes of white flowers in early summer. Photo courtesy of J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. Starburst Amur Maackia Maackia amurensis Starburst Size: 25'H x 20'W Zone 4 vase Starburst exhibits a uniform crown on a well branched tree. Its foliage is not troubled by pests, and it maintains its dark green color all season. Racemes of white flowers are produced midsummer, and its coppery bark shines in the winter landscape. Tiny Wine Ninebark Physocarpos opulifolius SMPOTW PP26749 Size: 3-5'H x 3-4'W Zone 3 Foliage: maroon Form: upright A dwarf Ninebark that s easy to fit into any landscape! Bronze-maroon foliage has a fine texture, and is very dense. Small white flowers bloom all along its stems in spring, contrasting nicely with the dark foliage.
8 Lanham s Beehive Norway Spruce Picea abies Lanham s Beehive Size: 3'H x 4'W Zone 3 Form: spreading The bold texture of Lanham s Beehive makes it a stand-out in the garden. Its needles have a slight glaucous tint, and are thicker and longer than other dwarf cultivars. Cinnamon colored stems and buds create a nice contrast with the foliage. Photo courtesy of Iseli Nursery Slenderina Weeping Colorado Spruce Picea pungens Glauca Slenderina Pendula Size: 12'H x irregular W Zone 4 Foliage: variegated Form: weeping This weeping form of Colorado Spruce has a vivid blue color, and is more narrow than other cultivars. It may be available as an upright, weeping form, or as a mounded form, where it will grow prostrate along the ground. Its new growth emerges flamered, changing to pinkish, before maturing to glossy dark green. Pendulous racemes of tiny urn-like flowers are borne in early spring.
9 Spaan s Dwarf Shore Pine Pinus contorta Spaan s Dwarf Size: 4'H x 3'W Zone 3 Spaan s Dwarf Shore Pine has a sturdy, open branch pattern that gives it a natural bonsai look. This slow grower provides a unique form and texture, perfect for rock gardens and as an unusual specimen in the landscape. Photo courtesy of Iseli Nursery Pacific Blue Macedonian Pine Pinus peuce Pacific Blue Size: 20'H x 15'W Zone 4 Foliage: blue Form: broad upright This extremely cold and wind tolerant pine maintains its intense blue color year-round. Its long, thin needles are retained for many years, giving it a dense appearance. A fast grower, it will exhibit a broadly upright form. Photo courtesy of Iseli Nursery Greengage Plum Prunus domestica Greengage Size: 10-14'H x 10-14'W Zone 4 This tree reliably produces small, green to yellow fruit, which are very sweet and juicy. An excellent dessert plum, it is equally suited for cooking, canning, and preserves.
10 Purple Gem Rhododendron Rhododendron x Purple Gem Size: 2-3'H x 3'W Zone 3 Purple Gem has a small stature, making it easier to integrate into smaller garden spaces. Its has dark green foliage and is covered with clusters of purple flowers in spring. Lindsey s Skyward Bald Cypress Taxodium distichum Skyward PP22812 Size: 25-30'H x 5-10'W Zone 5 Form: columnar A unique form of Bald Cypress! Lindsey s Skyward has tight, stiffly ascending branches, giving it a dense, columnar form. This deciduous conifer displays soft, bright green needles that turn a coppery color in fall before they abscise. Eschrich s Grune Kugel has shiny, dark green foliage that displays bronze-purple tips during the winter months. Deer resistant.
