Roots Summer Workshops 2018 With more than 20 years of experience, Meg is leading four new, morning workshops at Roots, sharing the skills she has learnt to help you to achieve something new and wonderful! These workshops are suitable for absolute beginners and those with more experience. The groups are small and there will be plenty of time to seek individual advice. Don t delay, places are limited! To book please send an to Meg info@familyfarmshop.co.uk or leave your contact details at Roots and Meg will be in touch to confirm your booking. Morning Workshops Date Booking Planting Pots and Baskets for the Summer 16 th May 60 Flowers for a Cutting Garden 23 rd May 50 Herbs that Everyone Should Grow! 6 th June 50 A Fresh Look at Summer Salads 13 th June 45 A 5% discount will be applied for those attending more than one workshop. Coffee & Tea served from 9.30am Workshop 10.00am 12.30pm Stay for lunch We will be offering a relaxed light lunch in our pop-up Glasshouse Café that can be booked in advance for 10 per person. This will include a savoury plate of freshly baked tart and salads, with a glass of wine or soft drink.
16 th May - Planting Pots and Baskets for the Summer 60 to include a selection of plants and other materials for creating a show-stopper! Make a beautiful hanging basket or patio pot that with some tricks of the trade will last from early June until the first frosts in late October. Learn how to blend different varieties of flowering plants and foliage to create a style of your own. The workshop includes a short demonstration of the key techniques, then the opportunity to build your own basket or planter with Meg on hand to help. At the end of the morning you are welcome to leave your creation with us in our greenhouse to grow on and collect in a fortnight when it will be ready to place outside.
23 rd May Flowers for a Cutting Garden 50 to include a selection of established plugs, our recommended flowers, ready to plant in your own cutting patch, getting your own cutting garden underway. Meg has long believed that flowers are an important part of feeding our souls and growing a cutting patch, even if it is small, will reward you with flowers for your house and more throughout the year. The course includes a practical guide of how to get started from cultivating the ground, choosing and sowing seeds, planting out, growing on, cutting and conditioning flowers. You will leave with a selection of well grown plug plants that will be ready for planting out in your own garden. These are our tried and tested favourites to guarantee your success at home and can be planted immediately into a prepared patch, borders or even pots.
6 th June Herbs Everyone Should Grow! 50 to include a selection of Meg s essential herbs. Herbs provide a powerful punch of flavour, sight and aroma. Their uses are many but in the kitchen alone, there are several herbs that Meg would not be without! And she is keen to encourage you to take up the challenge of building your own herb collection that can be potted or planted for use fresh or dried. Meg promises that you will be inspired to stretch both horticultural and culinary skills and that you will leave Roots with some herby samples to start your collection. With the new growing season in full swing it is the right time to be inspired and fill the year ahead with herby top notes.
13 th June A Fresh Look at Summer Salads 45 to include a recipe booklet and fresh, growing salad & herbs. With a reputation for creating tasty fresh salads with a twist, Meg will take you on an inspiring journey through a selection of ingredients that you may never have considered for a salad. Fresh, seasonal produce is at the heart of Roots food philosophy. With this in mind we will discuss and demonstrate a selection of salads which will enhance the 2018 summer season. We will include growing, preparing and presenting these dishes. Why not plan to stay for a relaxed lunch giving you time to further explore ingredients in the Roots gardens. You will leave with a selection of our favourite recipes to try at home and share with your friends, plus a selection of growing salad to get you started.
