1 ACTIVITIES & EVENTS AT BEHNKE NURSERIES SEPTEMBER THRU DECEMBER Baltimore Avenue, Beltsville, MD (301)
2 Autumn, How Awesome! The gardening community at Behnke s How special is autumn with not only beautiful flowers but also leaves changing to bright colors, berries pushing forth and gourds/squash in all kinds of shapes and colors. What a wonderful time to be out in the garden! Even the cooler weather makes raking and weeding seem less laborious and more like a task after which there s a promise of fresh apple cider or smores. Life s pace slows a little so all the nuances of the season can be taken in during long walks and family gatherings. Oh, glorious autumn! Below are just some of our yearly activities. For more information and times see the monthly list of activities on the next few pages. FREE TALKS Check each month for timely and interesting discussions This is a great way to pick up some new information, brush up on old information and have your questions answered. ORCHID CLINIC & REPOTTING (monthly) w/ The Orchid Lady, Carol Allen Orchids are often given as gifts and then thrown away after they bloom. They are perceived as difficult to grow. BUT Carol is here to say STOP. They are really less finicky than you think, and with Carol s coaching, you could have orchids REblooming on your window sills. Carol has over 25 years experience in the horticulture industry. Her advice is free. If you have questions about a specific orchid, bring it in, and let her take a look. If you need your orchid repotted she will take care of that also, for a fee, and show you how. BEGINNER BONSAI CLASSES w/ Jennifer Park Bonsai takes gardening to a whole new level. Now gardening becomes an art form. If you like the idea of gardening in miniature then this may be for you. Just keep in mind, patience is a necessity. Bonsai gardening takes years to master because your subjects take that long to mature, but it is well worth the wait as you watch your sculpture grow. Intrigued? If you want to dip your toe into the pond, consider taking a beginner bonsai class. Jennifer Park teaches a one-day beginner class here at Behnke s the first Saturday of most months. In this hands-on class you will select a tree, learn how to transplant it into a bonsai pot, and focus on its care and maintenance. You will discover what the art of bonsai is all about as you create your very own bonsai to take home. This is a fully inclusive class. For a schedule and cost of upcoming classes look through this class schedule or go online to and sign up. This class makes a unique gift for the special gardener in your life!
