ArmorMax Anchored Reinforced Vegetation System Definition ArmorMax - Anchored Reinforced Vegetation System (ARVS) - from Propex consists of a High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat (HPTRM) and earth percussion anchors. It is the most advanced flexible armoring technology having two distinct applications. A. Non-Structural Applications ArmorMax is designed to protect: Earthen levees from storm surge and wave overtopping Stream, river, and canal banks from scour and erosion Storm water channels in temperate, arid and semi-arid environments where vegetation densities of less than 100% coverage are anticipated to be maintained. B. Structural Applications - ArmorMax can be engineered to provide surficial slope stabilization against shallow plane failures. 3

Mechanical Anchor Installation - Adapter LandLok Plus Installation Breaker Hammer attached to Excavator Chain ~4 in 2 Receiving Channel welded to ½ steel plate Receiving Channel to receive 1 dia drive rod 1 dia drive rod 11
Mechanical Anchor Installation LandLok Plus Installation Other Techniques Selecting one of the Hammers in the earlier slide and hanging it from an excavator Using a dolly to move the hammer along slope Pushing the anchor in with an excavator 12
Northern and Eastern Slopes LandLok Plus Installation 13
Western Slope LandLok Plus Installation 14

Top of Slope Anchor Trench LandLok Plus Installation 16
Anchor/Pin Pattern LandLok Plus Installation
LandLok Plus Installation Details Load Locking the Anchors As the load exerted on the soil by the anchor system increases, a body of soil above the anchor is compressed and provides resistance to any further anchor movement. The size and spread of a Frustum Cone will depend upon: The shear angle of the soil, the size of the anchor, the depth of installation, and the load applied
Toe of Slope Anchor Trench and Anchor Pattern LandLok Plus Installation (3.1m) (1.2 m) Installation of Earth Percussion Anchors at 0.5 anchors per square yard 19

ArmorMax Case History Redcliff Golf Course Ponds Stabilization Redcliff, AB Application: Pond Bank Erosion Protection Client: City of Redcliff, AB Designer: Stantec (Medicine Hat) Contractor: CeeGee Earthmoving Installed: April-May 2008 Product: ArmorMax ARVS, with 3 (.9m) -long, B-1 anchors at 0.4 anchors/sy Quantity: 22,000 SY (18,392 SM) Design Considerations: Irrigation and stormwater ponds initially designed with riprap for shoreline erosion protection at a very high cost ArmorMax was incorporated with an 8oz. (227 g) Non-woven underlayment for protection below water line Provided aesthetic solution with rapid installation allowed golfers to access balls near pond without having to traverse over riprap 21
ArmorMax Case History Redcliff Golf Course Ponds Stabilization Redcliff, AB Typical pond bank stabilization strategy placed riprap for erosion protection against wind generated waves 22

ArmorMax Slope Stability Case History St. Maurice River Pipeline Cap de la Madeleine, QC Ro a dway I n f r astructure Application: Structural Slope Reinforcement Client: TransCanada Pipeline Designer: Golder Assoc. (Calgary) Contractor: Louisburg Pipelines Installed: October 2008 Product: Armormax ARVS, with 6 (2m) - long, B-2 anchors at 0.5 anchors/sy Quantity: 5,500 SY (4580sm) Design Considerations: Over steepened slopes with sandy soil left after pipeline river crossing construction Remote location with very difficult access rendered conventional slope reinforcement solutions unfeasible High visibility to surrounding property owners dictated a natural, aesthetic solution 29
ArmorMax Slope Stability Case History St. Maurice River Pipeline Cap de la Madeleine, QC West Slope East Slope Shallow plane sliding failures across over steepened slope resulting from pipeline construction 30
ArmorMax Slope Stability Case History St. Maurice River Pipeline Cap de la Madeleine, QC Deployment of green Pyramat HPTRM down slopes after minor, in-place slope repairs 31

Why choose a Vegetated Solution? Aesthetics, Safety, Vandalism, Maintenance and Pest Control Riprap applications are eyesores that are dangerous, easy to vandalize, difficult to maintain and tend to breed vermin and snakes 38
The Benefits o The Benefits of Vegetation One of the most effective ways to prevent erosion and sedimentation is to stabilize disturbed land through the addition of vegetation. provide both dust control and a reduction in erosion potential by increasing filtration, trapping sediment, stabilizing the soil, and dissipating the energy of hard rain. 39
Turf Reinforcement Mat (TRM) Technology is recognized and accepted as a Best Management Practice (BMP) to improve water quality The Benefits of Vegetation
Vegetation Reinforced with a Synthetic Turf Reinforcement Mat (TRM) Turf Reinforcement Mat: Long-term, nondegradable Rolled Erosion Control Product (RECP) composed of UV stabilized synthetic fibers, nettings and/or filaments processed into three dimensional reinforcement matricesdesigned for permanent and critical applications where design discharges exert velocities and shear stresses that exceed the limits of mature, natural vegetation.
