A block of rooms is being held until May 31st, You must call the hotel (no online reservations). The topics chosen for this year are cutting-edge, engaging and relevant to local leaders who are looking for effective educational responses to issues that affect their constituencies and their communities. From the Affordable Health Care Act, to Broadband, to the Welfare of Animals, the University of Wisconsin Extension has developed research-based resources that can assist community leaders in their quest to find new solutions to emergent community challenges. Presenter: Catherine Emmanuelle Family Living Educator, Trempealeau County - University of Wisconsin Extension The Role of Counties and UW-Extension in Animal Cruelty Cases Animal cruelty cases have made headlines all over the state and they are impacting counties in severe ways. Dr. Stanton and Supervisor Bates will discuss perspectives on how counties and extension can work together to prevent animal cruelty and promote animal well-being. Stanton has led efforts across the state to address animal welfare. She brings science to the discussion and promotes best practices to improve well-being for all animals rather than just treating the sick ones. Supervisor Bates and other Eau Claire County officials know first-hand the impact of animal cruelty cases on local government. Colleen Bates will share perspectives on the policy implications of animal cruelty for county government. You'll learn about the many facets of food security and get to see ways in which Eau Claire County OW - Extension is partnering with local organization to assist the effort. Site tour includes visits to: North River Front Park garden; Forest Street Community Garden; Downtown Eau Claire Farmer's Market; Community Table and the Eau Claire Exposition Center. The orchard added a winery in 2005 and recently added blueberries to their crop production. Learn how the orchard's involvement with OW-Extension has led to development and implementation of Integrated Pest Management and Nutrient Management plans. Of course, the tour would not be complete without checking out the winery and their award winning wines.
