Homebase Notes 11/06/2017 If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. Mother Theresa Homebase Requirements Due For 9 th, 10 th and 11 th graders, all Homebase requirements are due on Monday, 12/11/17, by 12:00 PM (noon). This means that your government meeting form, cultural event form, and volunteer hours form must be turned into your Homebase teacher by the Monday Homebase meeting on 12/11/17. All of these are required to pass Homebase. Students cannot miss class to fulfill these requirements. If you miss class, it will be an unexcused absence. For Seniors, all Homebase requirements are due on Friday, 12/01, by 12:00 PM (noon). Homebase Requirement Clarification If you are unsure about what does or does not count as cultural events, government meetings, volunteer hours, then please visit this website There you will find information about what is and what is not accepted for these requirements. There is also a useful FAQ section. Government Meeting There are two meetings this week right here at IRCHS, which count as government meetings. The first is the IRCHS Board of Directors Finance Meeting this Tuesday, 11/07, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. The second is the IRCHS Board of Directors Business Meeting this Thursday, 11/09, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Both meetings will be in Mrs. Sclafani s room (#618). These are IRCHS Board meetings, and you may only use one per year. You may not miss class to attend these meetings. Cookies for Kensington Friday in the dome there will be a bake sale to raise money to buy socks for the homeless people of Kensington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Kensington is an area of Philadelphia that has some of the highest crime and drug abuse rates in the
United States. With temperatures dropping below freezing in the winter time, it is very easy for the people living on the streets to get sick. Your purchase of a homemade sugar cookie can get someone a warm pair of socks for this winter! Bring $1 to the dome this Friday to get your tasty treat! (All while helping someone's feet!). FSA Tutoring The last two weeks of FSA tutoring available on Wednesday, 11/8 and 11/15 from 3:15-4:00 in room 615. All are welcomed! Trip Cancelled Ms. Sclafani's Italy trip has, unfortunately, been cancelled. To those who have signed up, please check your school for a message from Ms. Sclafani for how to go about getting money refunded. Canada Trip Meeting Students, a reminder that there will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, 11/14, at lunch in Mr. Zajicek's room for all who are registered for the Canada Spring Break Trip. If you have not yet registered but are interested in attending, there is still time! The full payment deadline is not until 1/11. Mr. Heroux for details. Math Club Are you interested in pursuing a career in Math? Or maybe you just love Math? No matter which category you fit in, come join the Math club! You can tutor others who need help and receive volunteer hours. Come to the informational meeting this Friday during lunch to find out more. We will be meeting in Mr. Stone's room #103. Hope to see you all there!! Art Club Art club meetings this week: Tuesday from 2:00-3:30 and Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 in the Art Room #500. Next week there will be no art club meetings. Our "Penny Wars" competition is back & better than ever! Imaging waking up hungry, spending your day hungry, and going to bed hungry, only to repeat the pattern each day. Over 795,000,000 people worldwide suffer from chronic undernourishment. This means that their food intake is insufficient
to meet dietary energy requirements continuously. Over half of the 795 million are aged 18 or below. As a school, we can help! For the next 4 weeks we will be raising money with our spare change (yes, spare change) & having a great time doing it. Our Penny Wars competition is simple: the homebase with the most pennies wins! BUT! There s a catch: if someone puts silver coins in your jar, you lose points! Here are the rules and how to win: 1 PENNY = 1 POINT 1 DOLLAR = 100 POINTS 1 CHECK FOR $5 = 500 POINTS (& so on) PUT SILVER COINS IN OTHER HOMEBASE JARS TO TAKE POINTS AWAY! 1 NICKEL = -5 POINTS 1 DIME = -10 POINTS 1 QUARTER = -25 POINTS Your homebase jar MUST stay in its designated area. It MUST NOT BE MOVED The seal on your homebase jar MUST NOT be broken. NEVER open your homebase jar. You are not allowed to enter a homebase that is not your own. You may open the door and put money in the jar. All jars will be by a doorway. If any rule is broken, your homebase will be disqualified and your amount raised will be divided up among other homebases.
Student council students will come around at the end of each day to collect the money and replace the jar s seal. Each Monday, scores will be announced. There will be 2 prizes. -The grand prize (a pizza party with the works) will be for the homebase with the most points -and the second prize (an entire homebase dessert) will be for the homebase that makes the most continuous effort (the average amount raised weekly, even if they do not win grand total) Student-made Comic Book!!! World of Spey is a comic book that is being created by one of our very own Charter Students! The creator is looking for some volunteers to help them with writing lore, scenes, and even creating species for the world! They are even creating an entire new language for the characters to write in. If you have any ideas you would like to incorporate or just like to hear more about the main character Zeya who is half dragon half succubus, the creator at caitlyn.sturtsman@irchsonline.org or the official comic at worldofspey.official@gmail.com Note: You don t have to help with the main story line, you can help flesh out the world surrounding it. Dress Code Day Are you tired of stuffing tissues in your pants to block off your holes in your jeans? Tired of you jeggings being replaced by normal jeans? Key Club has your solution! We are having a Dress Code Day on November 17th. This allows you to wear tank tops, jeans with holes ABOVE the knees, and leggings without a short dress. Stomach/ back skin and all underwear must still remain covered like normal. All you have to do is pay $2 for a wristband you can find in Mrs.Jessica Kelly's room during breaks, before and after school and under the dome during lunch! They will be available from November 13th to the morning of the dress code day!
The best part is that every dollar spent will go towards a great cause. Did you know that 663 million people in the world do not have access to clean water? Every 21 seconds a child dies due to water related diseases (4000 per day). On average young children and women have to walk 3.75 miles carrying 44 lb water containers only to bring back unsafe water. That s a total of 6-8 hours per day carrying water that could be spent contributing to family income or getting an education. Key Club will be working with The Thirst Project to raise money to build a well in Swaziland, a small country in Southern Africa. Help is desperately needed in this country. The average income of an adult male in Swaziland is $102 and they are also the most cases per square foot of people suffering from AIDS (80% of all adults). Check out for more info. $2 per wristband and you may only purchase your own band. Bands will be delivered to your First period teacher on Dress Code Day Attention Key Club Members: Do not forget that today is Bring-A-Buddy day during our regular meeting. All members should bring a friend. There will be snacks and a small activity that we will be completing. Key Club Dues will continue to be accepted until Thanksgiving! The last day to be an official member is November 17th if you have not paid already! Our club is already the biggest that it has ever been in school history. Will you help make it
better, while also making your college resume, your community and school a better place to be?
