Barnardos supports children whose well being is under threat, by working with them, their families and communities and by campaigning for the rights of children. Barnardos was established in Ireland in 1962 and is Irelands leading Children s charity. What does our Project do? Barnardos Family Support Service - Limerick North and Limerick South Barnardos family support work in Limerick started with the establishment of a Family Support Project in Moyross in 1996 in partnership with the HSE and FAS. In 1999, a project was established in Southside as part of the Springboard Initiative, and a further project was established in Islandgate in In 2011, in order to provide a citywide service to children in Limerick, all Barnardos activity was brought together in the form of two services: Barnardos Family Support Service - Limerick North and Limerick South. Barnardos services have the goals of improving the emotional well-being of children, and improving their capacity for learning and development. Barnardos is committed to interagency working and a partnership approach with families. Barnardos Family Support Service offers direct support to families to address the needs of children. The types of intervention usually include individual work with a child and/or a parent; parent and child work; family work; group work with children and adults, drop-in information and advice, and community activities. The types of support provided often include parenting support, practical support, and support to children in terms of managing behaviour, identity work, self esteem work, sibling work, and other issues as they arise. Where we work: Barnardos Family Support Service Limerick South works with children and families in the south of Limerick city and delivers services in a number of centres including O Malley Park Southill, Garryglass Ave Ballinacurra Weston, Bishop St and St. Mary s Girls School in Kings Island. 3 Administration Worker Job Description Post: Location: Responsible to: Works with: Administration Worker Limerick City initial assignment Limerick South Project Leader Project Leader, Project Co-ordinator, Project staff, Regional Administrator Job Purpose To provide an efficient and flexible administrative support service to the project in an integrated way with the wider organisation. Core Job Requirements To respond in an efficient friendly and appropriate manner to all communications with the office i.e. post, , telephone and fax and in person. To provide administrative support to the service utilising relevant IT packages, ensuring documents are presented and formatted to a high standard. To maintain an up to date and effective filing system. To maintain an efficient, accurate and up to date financial, Human Resource and stock/ inventory recording system as appropriate. To gather information statistics and prepare reports as required, including administration of databases as appropriate to the role. To supervise students and volunteers where necessary and to ensure they are aware of all Barnardos policies and compile placement reports as appropriate. To be vigilant to any concerns regarding the protection and welfare of children and to bring them to the attention of your designated person in a timely manner, in keeping with the Barnardos Child Protection policy. Requirements specific to the post Providing administrative support to Barnardos bases in Limerick city, including:

4 ensuring Barnardos premises are appropriately stocked, rooms are warm and clean for staff to use; ensuring appropriate coding of expenditure in line with project site; safe guarding Barnardos equipment and resources; ensuring the maintenance and repair of Barnardos premises; co-ordinating the booking of rooms and vehicles, and ensuring vehicle maintenance; ensuring that Barnardos policies and procedures are adhered to by people using Barnardos premises (i.e. Health & Safety); carrying out Health and Safety risk assessments of Barnardos premises with Project Co-ordinator(s), and following up on tasks; ensuring that the CE staff in Barnardos premises are completing their duties with Project Co-ordinators(s); mentoring of CE administrators based in Barnardos premises; over seeing HACCP with Project Co-ordinators(s)in Barnardos premises; developing and maintaining a partnership relationship with administration staff in Limerick city to ensure admin needs are met across the city; contributing to good communication across Barnardos teams in Limerick city regarding use of Barnardos premises. You are initially assigned to work in the Limerick South project but may be required in the future to work in other project(s) in the Limerick area in line with organisational needs. Requirements of all Barnardos staff Commitment to the purpose of Barnardos and to work within the values, policies and procedures of the organisation and in the context of current legislation and regulations To participate in regular supervision with your line manager To actively participate in team and staff meetings and service reviews/ evaluations and to contribute to the development of policy and practice with your area of work and within Barnardos as a whole To report any area of concern to your line manager in a timely manner To show reasonable flexibility in relation to hours of attendance 1 to meet the needs of the work. Work during unsocial hours may be required. Have a flexible approach to the work in response to organisational change, development and review of best practice. Participate in and engage with a performance management programme. Identify training needs with your line manager and participate in training opportunities appropriate to the role To be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or local Health and Safety Officer.
