Entering its fifth year, the New Orleans Mini Maker Faire provides an opportunity to highlight the great creators and creations of the Crescent City, from hightech drones to handcrafted Mardi Gras costumes to the inner workings of 3D printing. Bricolage Academy, along with fellow community members, believes that everyone is a maker and values learning from the knowledge and experiences of others. By hosting a Maker Faire, we give future innovators a chance to learn from makers and projects as they begin their own innovative journeys. As this event grows, our mission is to continue to seek out and showcase the culture of art, design, and DIY that has made New Orleans one of America s most unique cities. At Bricolage, we re makers of the future. Our students and our staff exhibit the maker mindset. We have created a school unlike any other in the city one focused equally on academic excellence, educational equity, student diversity and innovation. Bricolage is invested in cultivating a community of makers and innovators. We define innovation as creative problem solving, and we embed that tenet throughout our curriculum. Two times per week, our diverse student body participates in an innovation class, where they explore their individual intelligences and learn through collaboration, experience, and making. More than an extension of the core science and math curricula, the innovation class is a co-curricular class focused on developing our students problem-solving, engineering, and design skills as well as their creativity.
