5 Introduction EVOLUTION Music is part of our culture, part of our lives. Everyone who loves music knows about the wide range of feelings and emotions that can be triggered by music. Music keeps memories alive and gives us those precious moments of luck and satisfaction. It is this love to music which links all the workers in our company to what we create. This common love is always the impetus for all of us to strive for more perfection in speaker design, to overcome all technological limits and to get closer and closer to an authentic reproduction of music. Based on the unique Air-Flow-Technology, ARTOS AUDIO manufactures a series of exclusive speaker systems that combines innovative technology and traditional craftsmanship in a perfect way. For the resonance optimized speaker cabinets more than 40 different wood finishes are available. A hand polished high-gloss piano lacquer finish further contributes to the exclusive and luxury appearance of these musical masterpieces. In cooperation with the world renowned company Accuton, a series of exclusive driver systems has been designed to perfectly match the AirFlow-Cabinet and the crossover design of each model. Phase linearity, perfect impulse response and high-efficiency have been the primary goals for the design of the crossovers that uses the best parts available from Mundorf and Duelund. 7 The Cabinets In analogy to a gourmet meal, only the perfect method of preparation allows outstanding results, the simple use of excellent ingredients will never be a guarantor for authentic culinary delights for gourmets. Building a loudspeaker is similar. However, there are some important differences. A gourmet meal will be judged on the unique merit of its taste making the notion of "true" and "false" meaningless, completely contrary to what audio engineering is all about. The foundation and basis for the excellent performance of our products is the cabinet. All cabinets of ARTOS AUDIO are optimized to keep resonance effects as low as possible, while using the energy radiated into the cabinet instead of absorbing it. The shape of our cabinets and their internal construction allow optimal air flow efficiency while keeping resonances at a minimum. Thus, we are able to avoid the use of any damping materials inside the cabinets. We have experimented with many different materials and measured their mechanical. Birch, Beech and Maple are the woods used to manufacture our cabinets. Eleven layers of different kind of wood are pressed into shape for the side walls, while the front baffle uses a massive and solid piece of beech wood. The extreme stiffness and resonance properties of our cabinets avoid the typical "wooden" sound, which is known for less elaborate constructions. Building a loudspeaker is not a mystic thing, really: mount a woofer and a tweeter in a solid box, shelter the tweeter from low frequency vibration and filter high frequencies out of the woofer's signal - finished! Something audible will emerge from that and someone will either like or not. But placing the highest demands on our developments turns every smallest detail into a timeand cost intensive project. Even the manufacturing process of the cabinets for one pair of our smallest loudspeaker MOONGLOW requires 100 working hours. First, the side panels are pressed into shape. After this, the CNC-machined front baffle and the rear Air-Flow-panel are mounted to the side panels using numerous internal braces. Next, the cabinet is sealed and lacquered inside using a special instrument lacquer. The selection of the exclusive wood veneers and their processing requires a high degree of perfected technical skills, style competence, artistic talent, expert knowledge and - last but not least - a great love of detail. Indian Apple tree, Paldao, Padouk, Tulipwood or French Nut - every veneer is selected for a perfect fit on the cabinet it is used for. Timeless in appearance, noble and with perfect finish, these are properties of the piano lacquer we use. We've chosen high-gloss lacquer as standard finish for all our loudspeakers; it is the visual expression of the superior technical standard of our products. The coating consist of many layers applied in consecutive steps and is subject to a number of polishing processes at the end of which stands a very meticulous manual high gloss polish. High-gloss piano lacquer belongs without any doubt in the champions' discipline of surface treatment and, we daresay, at these unique levels of quality and finish it is the sure winner

9 Drivers & Crossover At the very heart of every loudspeaker, the drivers are of crucial importance to ARTOS AUDIO. Thiel & Partner manufacture Accuton drivers for our individual requirements, unique Original Equipment Manufacturer products for exclusive use by ARTOS AUDIO. The decisive factor in our selection of a driver is its coherent behaviour with the cabinet and the crossover filter in the finished loudspeaker. Because of this, unrelated appraisals and general conclusions on the quality of chassis have no validity. For all our models, we are using graphite-coated ceramic drivers made by Accuton the classic uncoated, white drivers are available upon request. These drivers behave like perfect pistons for moving air, and on top of that they are light as a feather. However, these extremely rigid diaphragms can also produce considerable resonances that objectionably interfere with the original signal, modify it and are a source of coloration. Without perfect filter, one will always hear the driver's diaphragm. Thiel & Partner's exorbitantly expensive Black-Diamond-Tweeter that we assemble in our Diamond-Series loudspeakers raises the bar even higher. Unfortunately, this is the most expensive tweeter in the world costing more than many other complete speaker systems. Needless to say, that we pay particular attention to our crossovers, so that no trace of colouration will persist. An ARTOS AUDIO speaker-system will therefore never present the sound of ceramic or diamond, but solely music. Consequently, it is an invalid assumption that our speakers will sound like other constructions that happen to feature the same materials. The crossover can be regarded as the brain and the heart of a loudspeaker. It rules the way of frequencies, influences the linearity and impedance behaviour of the loudspeaker and is responsible for the efficiency of the entire system. At ARTOS AUDIO, we are using oil-soaked silver-gold-capacitors, Zero-Ohm-Foil-Coils of the same calibre, and silver-carbon resistors - only the finest components with proven long time stability. Unfortunately, these components belong to the most expensive in the world as well. For example: the crossover for our reference model HURRICANE costs more than a pair of new MOONGLOW in a precious wood finish. The question of cost for any individual part is meaningless. Only the final result is what counts to us and considerations of cost do not enter into the equation. Our guiding principle is to present our customers with the highest possible degree of reality in music reproduction. Anything less is already available but does not meet our demands

11 Moonglow The Concept Although the»moonglow«is the entrance to the world of ARTOS AUDIO it is not just a speaker in its price range, not just an entry-level model and not just a scaled down version of the SUNRISE or any other model. Our goal during the design process of the»moonglow«was to create a speaker-system that offers extremely compact dimensions, an elegant and timeless appearance and an outstanding sonic performance. Or simply: Another masterpiece from ARTOS AUDIO at an affordable price level. The Cabinet With just 102cm (40") height and 42cm (16.5") depth the»moonglow«can be regarded as a truly compact floor-standing speaker. Although it is quite difficult at this price point, the cabinets are hand-made by the same skilled carpenters that build the cabinets for our reference-model Hurricane. The lute-shaped AirFlow-Technology cabinet is build using our unique multi-layer construction with a solid front baffle a 60mm solid AirFlow Backpanel. More than 40 exclusive veneers are available - all covered by a 10-layer high-gloss piano lacquer, polished by hand. While the enormous efforts remain hidden from the eye, namely the inner structure of the cabinet, you will easily recognize the quality of the finish and the heavy WBT terminals. Inside The»MOONGLOW«is a sophisticated 3-way-design and offers much more than it might be expected. A 1.20" Ceramic-Tweeter delivers crystal clear highs. For the midrange and the bass two 6.25" ceramic drivers are in charge. All drivers are made in an exclusive graphite-coated version - the classical white Accuton drivers are available upon request. The crossover uses first order filters with 6 db slope steepness only, which allows us to minimize the number of parts in the signal path. To eliminate the unavoidable resonances of the drivers and the enclosure a total of four absorber circuits are used. Needless to say: Most of the parts are made by the renowned company Mundorf. Summary The»MOONGLOW«is a high-efficient speaker-system offering a very linear impedance behavior and can be driven by nearly every integrated amplifier with just 15 Watt output power. 13 Sunrise The Concept Our goal during the design process of the»sunrise«was, to create a benchmark product offering room-friendly dimensions and an elegant appearance that matches the modern style of living while meeting our high demands in terms of technology and performance. The high efficiency and an unsurpassed linear impedance behavior enable the»sunrise«to demonstrate their full potential in small rooms and being driven by a high-quality integrated amplifier with just 15 Watt of output power. The Cabinet The cabinets for the»sunrise«are built by hand using our multi-layer construction with a massive front baffle and a solid piece of wood for the AirFlow-Panel at the back of the speaker. Internal braces and the lute-shaped design reduce the vibrations of the cabinet to a minimum. Needless to say: the»sunrise«follows our AirFlow Concept having no damping materials inside the cabinet, in order to use the internal radiated energy of the drivers instead of absorbing it. The precious and elegant look of the real wood veneers confirms the status as an exclusive ARTOS AUDIO loudspeaker. Up to 20 sheets of veneer are artistically matched and arranged before the high-gloss piano finish - obtained by 10 layers of lacquer - is ground and polished by hand. Inside The»SUNRISE«is the only 2,5-Way-Design offered by ARTOS AUDIO. The advantage of this design is the high efficiency and the fact that we have been able to minimize the number of parts (and therefore the cost) needed for the crossover. Innovative AIRFLOW and RESONANCE technologies and the best available components have been used by our designers to create a speaker system that combines old world s craftsmanship with cutting edge engineering. Special designed ceramic drivers systems are supplied by the renowned manufacturer Accuton. For a deep and precise bass reproduction two 7" ceramic woofers and another 7" Midrange- Woofer are used. On top of these, a 1.20" ceramic Tweeter takes care of the high frequency range above Hz. Because these drivers are custom made by Accuton to match the behavior of the AirFLow- Cabinet, we have been able to develop a crossover that uses only a few high quality parts from Mundorf in a 6 db design. 15 Sunrise CELL The Concept Although the SUNRISE became the most popular and best-selling model after its introduction in 2011, our passion for and a permanent ambition to turn high quality loudspeakers into even better products let us start the development of the new»sunrise CELL«. The main cause for the deviations from the original 2.5-way concept was the extremely high quality of the new Accuton CELL-Concept Tweeter. The»SUNRISE CELL«is a very complex and fully developed 3-way design offering musical enthusiasm which can hardly be surpassed. The Cabinet The cabinets of the»sunrise CELL«are handcrafted by skilled carpenters using our multi-layer construction. The Airflow construction, numerous internal braces and the lute-shaped design minimize the vibrations of the enclosure to an absolute minimum. The CELL-Concept Tweeter is housed in its own chamber to further improve the soundstage and imaging. The precious and elegant look of the real wood veneers confirms the status as an exclusive ARTOS AUDIO loudspeaker. Up to 20 sheets of veneer are artistically matched and arranged before the high-gloss piano finish - obtained by 10 layers of lacquer - is ground and polished by hand. Inside The transparent, detailed and airy high frequencies are the result of the 30mm CELL-CONCEPT Tweeter made by the renowned company Accuton. However, the core of the»sunrise CELL«is the 7" ceramic midrange-driver that offers unsurpassed resolution and naturalness. The powerful Neodymium-Magnet system, an oversized Titanium Voice Coil and special damping-ears that reduces the resonances of the ceramic membrane underline the high-tech position of this midrange driver. To generate a very deep and tight bass as well as processing extremely high levels two 7" ceramic Woofers are used up to 250Hz. All drivers are graphite-coated while the traditional white look of the Accuton drivers is also available upon request. Because the custom-made drivers are matched to the cabinet we have been able to minimize the parts needed for the crossover. Silver-Gold-Oil-Capacitors and custom made Zero-Ohm Foil-Coils made by Mundorf are used in an intelligent 6dB Design. 17 Rainbow CELL The Concept With the new»rainbow CELL«ARTOS AUDIO created a great speaker system using an intelligent 6dB crossover design that offer high efficiency combined with perfect phase linearity and very linear impedance behavior. Listening rooms of 20m² and a high-quality amplifier with just 20 Watt output power per channel will allow the Rainbow its full potential. The Cabinet The cabinets of the»rainbow CELL«are handcrafted by skilled carpenters using our multilayer construction. The Airflow construction, numerous internal braces and the lute-shaped design minimize the vibrations of the enclosure to an absolute minimum. The CELL-Concept Tweeter and the CELL-Concept Midrange are housed in their own chambers to further improve the soundstage and imaging. The advantages of the CELL-CONCEPT are: - Same acoustic center for tweeters, midranges and woofers for time coherency in a flat front - Perfect signal settle and piston behavior of the dome even close to the dome resonance - Very low distortion - in the magnitude of electronic devices - even at high power levels Crystal clear highs are obtained by a 30mm ceramic tweeter; optional a 30mm Black-Diamond- Tweeter is available. The 5 CELL-CONCEPT midrange driver is used over a very large frequency range from 300Hz up to 2.800Hz. Three 8 aluminum/ceramic woofers deliver a clean, tight and very deep bass. Extended-Version As an option, the»rainbow CELL EXTENDED«demonstrates our passion for music and our permanent ambition to turn a perfect speaker system to another level. The external crossover allows us to forget the limited space available inside the RAINBOW CELL. Not only better parts made by Mundorf and Duelund find their place in these crossovers, there are NO vibrations from the drivers taking impact on the individual parts. 19 MIRAGE A challenging demand Jazz, Rock or Classical music - it doesn't matter whether your favorite music is stored on CD, SACD, a hard-disc-drive or the good old analog disc. It is important to maintain the balance between resolution and details on one hand and naturalness and emotions on the other hand. This balance determines the ability to listen to music or, more importantly, to experience live music! The development of the»mirage«is ARTOS AUDIO s commitment for a true, natural and emotionally touching music experience. If you listen to a pair of»mirage«for the first time you will feel immediately that the music sounds right. To obtain this extraordinary level of naturalness, the»mirage«combines innovative design aspects and lots of experience. The result is just the difference between a speaker system from ARTOS AUDIO and many others. Inside Together with the renowned company Accuton we designed the various drivers and the crossover for the»mirage«in order to perfectly meet the requirements of the not damped Airflow-Cabinet. Four 7" ceramic Woofers are in charge to deliver a truly deep, controlled and tight bass, which is unique for the size of this speaker system. The 7" midrange driver with its 55mm Titanium Voice-Coil and a large Neodymium Magnet- System and the 1.20" ceramic tweeter also using a Neodymium Magnet-System underline the high level of all parts used for the»mirage«. For Perfectionists The»MIRAGE DIAMOND«is made for just those music lovers, looking for nothing but the best while being limited by a small to medium sized listening room. The main differences are: 1. The Black-Diamond-Tweeter: The extremely low weight and the unsurpassed stiffness of the Black-Diamond membrane enable a nearly linear frequency-response of up to 100kHz. 2. The crossover: While some manufacturers simply change the tweeter (Black Diamond instead of ceramic), the»mirage DIAMOND«uses a completely new designed crossover with different parts and additional circuits. 3. The internal wiring: While the Mirage uses a PCOCC internal wiring system, the»mirage DIAMOND«takes advantage of the Silver-Gold-OCC wiring system that was originally designed for our reference model Hurricane. The final step As an option, the»mirage EXTENDED«demonstrates our passion for music and our permanent ambition to turn a perfect speaker system to another level. 21 THUNDER CELL Enormous sound with much subtlety The ARTOS AUDIO»THUNDER«is much more than a scaled down Hurricane! Based on the outstanding properties of the closed Air-Flow-Cabinet-Construction that we designed for our reference-model, the»thunder«may be regarded unique compared to its size and their easy-to-use properties. The cabinet of the»thunder«has been split into two closed cabinets each optimized for the frequency range it is used for. Two 9" ceramic woofers are housed in the lower part allowing a really deep and controlled bass response of down to 18Hz. As these woofers are cut off at a low frequency, another 7" ceramic woofer is used at the top of the upper part of the cabinet. The 7" ceramic midrange driver with additional damping-ears uses a huge Neodymium Magnet-System allowing a perfect and precise reproduction of human voices, string instruments and other dynamic mid-frequencies. At the lower end of the upper cabinet is a 1.20" ceramic CELL-Concept Tweeter responsible for crystal clear highs and a perfect imaging of the musical event. The advantage of the closed cabinet together with the placement of the individual drivers is the perfect and equal coupling of the speaker to the listening room. A»THUNDER«can be set up easily in even small listening rooms of 20m².
