This clever functionality is just what TARVA day bed offers, making sure every square metre comes to use. Made in solid untreated pine, a material that s typical for Scandinavian furniture production, the day bed has a natural, genuine feel. The designers Knut Hagberg and Marianne Hagberg expand on this: With TARVA we wanted to show our roots and create a modern, airy design. We think it s nice to be able to feel the natural material just as it is. The wood is beautiful in its own right and it s also renewable. And because you can stain or paint it without further treatment, everyone can create their own TARVA. The designer Eva Lundgren created the quilt cover with inspiration from a regional museum that houses a permanent collection of textiles dating all the way back to the 1600s from Sweden s southernmost region. Back then women started at a young age to make pieces for their dowry that would become part of their new home once they were married. These traditional wool embroideries sparked the designer to create ROSENRIPS quilt cover. The quilt cover is made with 100% cotton from more sustainable sources, meaning the cotton is grown with less water, chemical fertiliser and pesticide, while increasing profit margins for farmers. 10 IKEA PRESS KIT / OCTOBER 2016 / 10 PH LÅDDAN STORAGE BOARD & BAG To help make bathroom time a little easier when living with kids, the designers Sarah Fager and Maria Vinka drew from their own family insights to create bathroom storage for children. The result is LÅDDAN storage consisting of a board with a mirror, hourglass, containers, bag and hook. The sand-filled hourglass marks for two, four and six minutes and can teach kids and adults an important lesson - saving water. Showers are in fact the second biggest water consuming activity in the bathroom (flushing the toilet is the first). Everyone with kids knows how difficult it is to get kids to brush their teeth long enough or to quit a fun bath when it s bedtime, Sarah Fager says. The hourglass will help parents and kids to communicate in a better way that s also visual! Designed with suction cups, the storage board can be moved along the tiles as the child grows, and with the mirror made of reflective plastic film instead of real mirror glass, it s a safe solution. Bathroom times may still be wild and crazy, but now they can be easier and educational too! I found inspiration for RAVNSÖ rug at the Nordic Museum in Stockholm. It s full of folkloristic textiles with colourful patterns and stripes. So I got the idea of creating a traditional rug with a modern twist. I started out by designing the stripes thick, thin and everything in between, to find the right proportions. The warm colours match easily with other items at home and give a cosy, homey feel. Handwoven in wool, the rug is made in the IKEA initiative of handwoven rugs in India. That was our thinking when designing the FINSTILT series. It s rustic dinnerware which pays great attention to detail, where all items have different characters and expressions, but still work well together. The pattern is inspired by folklore, classical Swedish Kurbits paintings and other brush painting styles. Made in durable stoneware, the launch includes differently sized bowls, side plates, paper napkins and mugs.
