2 Cutting corners to make surgery safer and more efficient People sometimes stare in wonder at our canopies and ask us why we eliminated the corners. While we admit that the rounded design is visually pleasing, the reasons are purely rational. Rounded corners eliminate air turbulence, making the canopy up to 30% more energy-efficient compared to conventional square and rectangular designs. Pendants and other equipment can be moved in or out of the sterile field without obstruction. The design is as suitable for new builds as it for retrofits. Protecting patients in 14 hybrid theatres At a cost of over EUR 200 million, Sahlgrenska University Hospital s new Centre for Imaging and Intervention (CII) is a major investment.
