3 The Forester The canopy & track kits are known as our Forester models and are offered in three track styles: 1. Forester standard double-sided track Our standard double-sided track is ideal for a quick retro-fit to attach canopies to an existing structure by mounting independently underneath existing rafters. Track placement is not critical and canopies widths are typically our standard 60 or 46 widths, but custom widths are available. Tracks are available in white, black or taupe. 2. Forester single-sided strip track Our strip track is popular when starting from scratch if you are designing your own pergola or shade structure and want to create more of a custom look. Simply space your rafters based on our standard 60, 46 or 30 widths. Canopies can be custom-cut so they fit your specific needs. Tracks are available in white, black, beige or taupe. 3. Forester under-beam-mounted double-sided track The under-beam-mounted double-sided track provides a third mounting option where there is an existing structure and it is desirable to minimize the number of tracks and canopies so they align with existing rafters, When the spacing between beams is narrow, track can be mounted to skip some beams allowing for wider canopy widths. Canopies can be custom-cut so they fit your specific needs. Tracks are available in white, black or taupe. (Our in-house design department can create a CAD drawing to show exact alignment & canopy widths so that tracks fit perfectly to the bottom of your beams.) 3

4 The Forester - Standard Double-sided track option Overhead tracks attach ON THE ENDS to virtually any surface with mounting brackets. Tie-in to a railing with posts and a header (tracks attach on the ends to the house and the header - side support is not necessary) For lanais and screen rooms, (canopies & blinds attach to existing framework) 4

5 The Forester - Single-sided Strip track option Overhead tracks attach BETWEEN BEAMS for a custom look It is important that the tracks remain straight, with consistent spacing between the beams. Therefore, when using wood beams, it is suggested to use no smaller than 4 x 6 dry lumber to prevent warping that will affect the performance of the retractable canopies. (Cedar wood is the most reliable and attractive.) 5

6 The Forester - Under-Beam double-sided track option Overhead tracks attach ON THE BOTTOM OF BEAMS for a clean & simple installation 6 Ideal for existing pergolas. The width of the beams is not as critical for successful operation with this track system as it is with the Strip Track system. When measuring for an Under-Beam application, it is imperative to measure the center-to-center of EACH BEAM across the entire pergola. Most pergolas have variations in the beam spacing, and very few are actually built to the original specifications. ShadeTree Canopy systems have a.25 tolerance in the track/beam spacing; any spacing beyond.25 tolerance wll hinder the operation of the canopy system.

BRACKET HARDWARE KIT includes all metal corner post brackets and bolts, available in forest green or satin black. Canopies and tracks and lumber sold separately. Alpine bracket kits with canopies Used to construct structures in small spaces without attaching to a building Double Cantilever Double/Flat Cantilever Single Cantilever Includes strong, powder-coated black metal corner and bracing brackets, as well as all the lag bolts needed to complete the job. Unlike our Garden Getaway bracket kit, the Alpine bracket kit is limited to a 14 6 width and includes canopies and strip track. (Lumber not included. Only cedar or redwood is recommended to avoid shrink and warpage.) 7

8 The Capri & Capri II A complete system with canopies supported by a rugged,yet slimline powder-coated aluminum structure. The small post footprint makes it ideal for mounting to railings. The Capri attaches to the house or building, while the Capri II is free-standing. Both versions of The Bungalow utilize a 2 x 6 overhead aluminum track system that projects up to 24, with 20 span between posts. The Basic Bungalow features 5.5 x5.5 columns with flat capitals. The Deluxe Bungalow features 7.5 x7.5 columns with ball finial capitals and decorative rosettes. 18 Components of a ShadeTree Canopy CROSS MEMBERS ROLLER SLEEVE LOCKING TABS Handle Aluminum bar attached to outermost/extended end of the canopy to extend and retract Standard (max) length is 18 ; can be shortened. A Sky Hook is used to operate high installations that put handle out of reach. Roller Assemblies On the ends of each Cross Member except the first and last. Rollers fit into the tracks and allow the canopy to be extended or retracted. Top lip of the roller sleeve helps to hold the top & bottom cross members together. All Canopy Rollers are locked in the Bottom Cross Member by the Roller Sleeve Locking Tab and can be removed by pushing the Tab into the Cross Member with a screw driver and pulling on Roller - see photo. Top Cross Member Plastic piece that clamps the fabric to Bottom Cross Members. Rivets secure black Top Cross Members (or white ones that have come loose with age). Must be installed at the factory. Front Slide Lock Roller in the front position/first Cross Member Tab snaps into the Top Lock Brackets to hold the canopy in extended or retracted position. Includes a security screw to keep roller sleeve in Bottom Cross Member when pulling canopy. Roller Lock Pin Assembly Molded end with a set screw rather than a roller Located in the last Cross Member and is used to hold it in a fixed position. Can also be used to hold second Cross Member fixed for the opening of windows, swinging doors, or headroom over doorways. 22 ShadeTree Frequently Asked Questions QIs the ShadeTree System available in different widths? AYes. The ShadeTree System can be made to cover any width of an area needed by simply adding more canopy sections. Standard sizes are 60 (the most shade for the money), 46, and 30 fabric widths. Special custom widths between 24 and 59 are available at no additional cost QHow long can the canopies span (project)? AThe maximum recommended projection for most models is 21 ; the aluminum models can span 24ft. Longer projections can be achieved by erecting a support system (a header) at the end of one set of tracks, and installing a second set of canopies to extend the span. Strip Tracks can span however long a beam can span QWill the system ever rust or discolor? ANo. The aluminum tracks are made of heavy-guage, extruded aluminum, with a handsome powder-coated finish. The hardware is made of rugged resin, which has been stabilized to prevent yellowing or breakdown. The vinyl systems are UV-treated to maintain true color indefinitely and is virtually maintenance-free QIs there a warranty on the ShadeTree Canopy System? AThe system s posts and tracks are warranted for 10 years against breakage following installation. Hardware is warranted for three years. Fabrics have a warranty for five years against fading and mildew. (Warranty value is pro-rated based on invoice date.) QWhat keeps the canopies from being damaged in gusting winds? AA special, patented wind-release mechanism is used on each section of canopy. If extended during strong winds, the canopies will be released from the mechanism so they can float freely in the tracks to minimize the risk of damage QWill the canopies keep the rain off the patio? ANo. ShadeTree Canopies are designed for shade. The mesh fabrics, which allow cool breezes to flow through them, also allow water to penetrate. The solid and striped fabrics will not allow water to shed through, therefore the space below will remain dry, but there will be small spaces between the sections where will come through. In a light rain, the solid-woven fabrics will stave off the water, but heavy rain and wind blow in from the sides QSince the canopies are flat, will they collect rain water? AThe wind protection mechanism will release the canopies with the weight of the rain and allow the rain to easily run off the edges and protect them from damage QCan the canopies be removed for winter storage or for cleaning? AYes. Simply loosen the Top Lock Brackets and Roller Locks, and the canopies quickly and easily roll out of the tracks. The tracks and structure remain up year-round QWhat if retracted canopies hang down in front of a door, window, etc? AAdditional Roller Locks are used to fix the last fabric panel (next to the house) in a permanently extended position. This keeps the canopy from retracting against the house to allow for clearance of obstacles. Additional Roller Locks must requested when ordering. A grommet hole is added to the last fabric panel to allow for rain drainage. The fold or drop of the fabric can also be shortened by adding cross member(s) to the canopy to allow for clearance QIf I make a small mistake in measuring the length of the tracks, how do we fix it? AWe ve designed a special extender bracket for each track to accommodate errors up to inches, plus or minus the correct measurement
