Your home deserves the best. Only from Tarkett. What are the key trends & influences for 17? One big trend is surely the complete connectivity, not only at mobile surfing, shopping or guiding. The new currency is social connectivity and like. But every trend has a countermovement and the wish for disconnection will influence architecture and interior design in the next years. What does a designer do at Tarkett? First of all we have to analyze and rate all the inputs from different sources. Today you have access to data everywhere, Fairs, Pinterest or blogs, just to name a few. What we have to do, is to filter these information and proof what could be relevant for new flooring products. A big part of our job is also the development of concepts both for designs but also for the ranges. Based on these concepts we are starting our creative artwork which is mainly the creation of flooring decors from natural material like wood or stone but also drawing own patterns and structures. After that we add the colourations to the design which is an important part of the process. This is just a very rough overview, finally it is all about teamwork and collaboration. Why did you choose this job? At the age of 16 it was very clear for me that I wanted to be designer, I always wanted to create. It is more that the job found me. But I never thought that I will design floors someday, but now I can t imagine doing something else. Why? As a flooring designer you create something that is lasting for a long time, and this is really exciting. What are your personal and professional influences? What most influences me is travelling. Exploring new cities, or hidden areas as well as nature. But also the work with nature materials such as wood is a great source of inspiration, too. Where are the factories and showrooms located? All over Europe, Luxembourg, Germany, Sweden, France, Poland and more. We already have a showroom in our Luxembourgish plant, but this is now under renovation and will be reopened in great shape next year. What are the sources of inspiration behind the Starfloor Click 55 collections? The main inspiration for the Starfloor Click 55 is for sure nature. I love to work with real wood and you will see that the carefully selected wood designs are looking really realistic on the floor. The colour range is really inspired by nordic colours but also by classic wood treatments like white limed or oiled effects. What about the colors? materials? forms...? One of the main things which I had in mind is the possibility of combinations. If you want to use the Composite design or the Vintage Zinc for the Kitchen, you can just pick a wood design from the range for the next room and it will match. I like to make it simple. This is also the case for the pattern. Instead of very rustic designs we designed calm structures but always with some nice details. What are your projections/feelings for 18? I believe that the new retro trend will still be growing. As technology and connectivity which reach new levels, customers would like to have a reminder on the times where they were able to control everything.
