39 Light ambience LP GRAND primarily provides downward light. About 90 per cent of the light is directed downwards through the round diffuser. The remaining 10 percent is directed upwards as indirect light reflected from the top reflector, and illuminates the ceiling or mounting surface. This helps even out the light in the room, avoiding the problem whereby suspended lights divide the room into dark and light sections. The upward illumination provides a good spatial effect, integrating the area above the fixtures into the total ambience of the room. The light is reflected between the round components the top and bottom reflectors and outer shade so the fixture glows and is atmospheric in itself, while the form and layers are accentuated. 39

42 LP GRAND Design: Christian Flindt Concept: The circular luminaire is perceived as a set of coinciding rings based around a centrally positioned horizontal diffuser. A large angled reflector circumferences the diffuser and reduces the contrast around the edge. A revolved top reflector is perfectly curved to distribute uplight in a wide angle. A colored outer shade surrounds the reflector and creates an interreflection of light resulting in a graceful glow of light on the outside of the top and bottom reflector. The almost architectural reference emphasizes the verticality in the technology and form of this luminaire. 72 Naturally Nature's ability to create is unique, and a constant challenge and inspiration. Complex and remarkable patterns appear everywhere, but all created for a purpose. PATERA is no exception. 73

74 In his own words With PATERA I wanted to create a modern chandelier with a vibrant and beautiful light. A fixture which unites even large rooms and makes the space comfortable and human; discrete and self-conscious, modest and exclusive at the same time. The basic shape is peaceful and classic. The structure, living and enticing. From a distance, the light has the same shape as the source of all light and life, the sun a sphere. If you move closer, the sphere comes to life, and never looks the same no matter which angle you view it from. The Fibonacci structure offsets the visual focal point of the fixture from its center, encouraging the beholder to walk around the light and explore a pattern which is simultaneously mathematical, natural and poetic. The fixture's complex geometry has only been possible thanks to 3D programs and countless physical models. We worked on refining light and shadow after numerous iterations the light ended as a combination of direct and indirect light and on reducing the production process, as otherwise the cost would have been prohibitive. 75

75 The light PATERA was conceived from the outset as a modern chandelier. A globe with light streaming softly and pleasantly out in all directions. The light resulting from the complicated pattern, inspired by the Fibonacci curve, has been considered down to the tiniest detail. Inspiration has also been drawn from Poul Henningsen's use of visor lines. PATERA is therefore not only decorative in its appearance but also functional, providing beautiful and atmospheric light to its surroundings. Whether it is set in a dining room, hall, hotel foyer or office. PATERA fits in anywhere, and the light creates a positive difference. 76

77 Light quality PATERA provides true light for its environment. We need to see each other in the right light. Good ambience and being able to capture each other's expressions are crucial to good communication. It does make a difference where the light comes from. Pendants draw people together. They create intimate atmospheres, and their lower height adds a true and comfortable illumination of people in settings such as restaurants, lounges and meeting rooms. PATERA's diffuse light distribution gives both people and environments the right atmosphere. PATERA is a good, decorative supplement to general lighting.
