1 CHURCH OF THE HOLY CROSS Stateburg, SC Before Louis Jackson The Church of the Holy Cross (803) Dan Beaman Cummings & McCrady (843) February ,300 SF Historic renovation of rammed-earth wall church, originally built in 1850, that had been severely damaged by termites. Listed on the National Register of Historic Place and has also been declared a National Historic Landmark. Extensive plaster repair and replacement. Extensive shoring was added to support and protect existing structure. 50% of the exposed heart pine trusses were removed and replaced. Slate floors were added throughout the sanctuary and historic reclaimed wood was used to rebuild the choir loft/ chancel. New concrete slab and new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were installed. Reinstalled original stained glass into modern mullions and added protective glazing. Also installed new roof.

2 EASTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, SANCTUARY IMPROVEMENTS Bill Collins Eastminster Presbyterian Church (803) Quackenbush Architects + Planners (803) November ,000 SF Historic Preservation Award for Excellence in Preservation/ Restoration, Historic Columbia Foundation Renovation designed to upgrade the facility while respecting and preserving the existing architectural character. included extensive sanctuary Before improvements; restroom and vestibule renovation; elevator addition; mechanical upgrades; electrical upgrades; exterior covered entry and porte-cochere. The strategic placement of the new elevator provides accessibility to all levels of the original structure and to an outdoor connector that links the rest of the campus. The dilapidated basement was transformed into a new choir room. All stained glass and wooden pews were taken off site for refurbishment and then carefully reinstalled. Sanctuary improvements included: refurbished pews; new plaster and paint; new flooring; renovated chancel; paint stripping at Nave windows; and protection of sensitive materials/equipment such as stained glass & pipe.

3 FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH First Presbyterian Church 36,000 SF (Thornwell Center) Excellence in Adaptive Re-use, Historic Columbia Foundation (Jackson Hall) Excellence in New Construction in a Historic Context, Historic Columbia Foundation (Thornwell Building) This project involved construction of the new Thornwell Education Center, restoration of Jackson Hall and renovation of Smith Chapel. The new Thornwell Education Center is a 36,000 SF, three-story facility with an enclosed walkway. The Center includes classrooms with an auditorium and stage on the third floor. Also included a connector between the Thornwell Center and Jackson Hall that has skylights and flagstone flooring. Building exterior contains slate roof, copper gutters and downspouts. Jackson Hall was restored to its original condition with vaulted ceilings, new stained glass windows, plaster glass column covers, and ribs splines and rosettes installed in the vaulted ceiling. The restoration also included flooring and mahogany doors. Renovation to Smith Chapel included faux paintings on the ceiling to feature a wood panel appearance and marbleized columns. The chapel has new stained glass windows. Our team worked diligently to minimize disruptions to ongoing operations. The construction was completed with zero setback lines from two major streets with no staging areas.

4 GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH, MULTIPLE PROJECTS Charleston, SC Rev. Michael Wright Grace Episcopal Church (843) July 2012 (Structural Repairs) January 2015 (Side Aisle Attics) April 2013 (Bishop s Office) 3,600 SF (Side Aisle Attics) 9,882 SF (Bishop s Office) Structural Repairs The structural repairs at Grace Episcopal Church included the stabilization of the clerestory walls from damage that was sustained in the Virginia earthquake of The stabilization of the walls allowed the congregation to re-occupy the sanctuary while the project moved into Phase 2. Side Aisle Attics This second phase of renovations to Grace Episcopal Church includes the tying of the clerestory walls to the side aisle walls and the bracing of all side wall systems. Bishop s Office Renovation Interior renovation of a current classroom into the Bishop s office and his Executive Assistant s office.

5 ST. PAUL S LUTHERAN CHURCH, SANCTUARY RENOVATION Dickie Jenkins St. Paul s Lutheran Church (803) Asheley Scott 1x1 Design, Inc. (803) June ,000 SF Historic Preservation Award for Excellence in Preservation/ Restoration, Historic Columbia Foundation St. Paul s Lutheran Church was established in 1889 with the cornerstone laid for its current sanctuary in October of The Under Construction Church teamed with Mashburn and the architect to restore the historic church back to its original beauty. The team worked with key restoration subcontractors to revive the space and enhance the historic features of the church. The wood of the stained glass windows and doors was restored to the original oak finish. St. Paul s signature red doors were refinished with fully refurbished hardware. The old wallpaper in the chancel was replaced with venetian plaster to draw attention to the centerpiece. Outdated carpeting was removed to expose the heart of pine flooring which was then refinished. The original hardwood pews were fully disassembled, restored and refinished, and pew cushions were added. Other renovations included updating all ornamental plaster trimwork and beams, adding carpet in the aisles, reupholstering the kneelers and updating the air distribution.
