41 Suggested Annual Maintenance Activities for Bioretention Activity Conduct an annual spring cleaning and inspection Add reinforcement planting to maintain desired vegetation density. Remove sand that may accumulate on the filter bed surface following snow melt. Replace vegetation that is impacted. Check inflow points for clogging and remove any sediment. Inspect grass filter strips for erosion or gullies. Reseed as necessary. Remove invasive plants using recommended control methods. Supplement mulch to maintain a 3 inch layer. Prune woody matter, mow filter strips, and manage vegetative growth to maintain landscape Examine the drainage area for bare soil. These areas should be stabilized immediately. Silt fence or other measures may be needed until the area is reseeded.
