3 Park System Park System refers to all parks, open spaces, trails, facilities, and recreation programs managed by Pierce County Parks and Recreation Pierce County PROS Plan The general concept of the park system is a series of parks, natural areas, and recreational facilities placed throughout the community, all connected by trails and greenways. 2/25/2016 3

5 Park System The Park System responds to multiple community needs including: Developed Athletic Fields and Sports Courts. Specialized Recreational Facilities - Ice rink, skate park, disc golf course, climbing wall, golf course, BMX track, equestrian arena. Water Access Boat launches, fishing piers, swimming beaches, beach combing. Family Activities play areas, spray parks, picnic areas. Wildlife Habitat Conservation Garry Oak, wetlands, riparian areas. Trails multi-use paved regional trail, natural trails, walking paths. Indoor Meeting Spaces/Community Centers/Gymnasiums. Community Event Spaces Fantasy Lights, County Fair, Highland Games, Car Shows, Dog Shows, Kite Festival, Rainier to Ruston Relay. 11 PCParks Unique Role/Niche PCParks niche would be as a primary provider of unique recreational services and facilities that meets the public needs. PCParks would focus its services and facilities on those that have the greatest impact for the greatest number of persons and that do not duplicate other agency services. PCParks would be able to best align its available funding and staff resources to meet public need. 2/25/
