6 OUR 3REPUTATION 1967 In 1967, the Texas Legislature created the at the University of Texas at Arlington. Based in one of Texas largest urban centers, IUS was authorized to provide consultative services and conduct training and instructional programs for those in or desiring to enter public service and engage in applied research into urban issues. Since then, IUS has continually strengthened the urban, ecological, and social fabrics of Texas and beyond in partnership with the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
7 OUR 3REPUTATION The School of Architecture and the School of Urban and Public Affairs combined to form the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA). The new college hosts the Institute of Urban Studies, which expands the complementary resources and talents available to our communities.
8 OUR 3REPUTATION TODAY The five-month IUS study Fair Park: The Reinvigoration of a National Treasure was featured in D Magazine and The Dallas Morning News. Dallas is targeting downtown walkability through a collaborative study with IUS in order to improve the street-level experience for people who work, live, and visit downtown Dallas. Dallas Executive Airport is looking to IUS for help with identifying future development opportunities on airport property through a land-use study. The main objectives are economic growth for the airport and surrounding neighborhoods and an enhanced quality of life for residents of adjacent communities.
