23 Conclusions Excess water causes severe issues and conventional drainage material cannot drain water under unsaturated conditions New drainage design concept to use natural environment as pump to continuously wick water out of the pavement embankment the new geotextile with wicking ability works effectively for soils with particle size greater than 12 μm 23

24 Conclusions The functional suction range for the geotextile can be as high as 200 kpa For the tested soil, the geotextile can reduce the water content by 2%. By dong so, the resilient modulus increased by 3 times and the permanent deformation decreased to half Interface shear strength is not sensitive to water content variation 24
