2 Bibliographic resume I was born in Porto on the 4 th of March of In 1992 I was admitted in the course of Architecture at the School of Architecture of the University of Porto. In I did my internship in São Paulo, Brazil, supervised by Professor Paulo Mendes da Rocha, who had a determinant influence on my professional and academic interests. In June 1998 I finished my degree in Architecture and won a scholarship from the Oriente Foundation to develop a research project in Goa, India. Remained in India until March 1999, presenting the study The Santana de Talaulin Valley; proposals for a transforming socio-economic system. In 2000 collaborated with the Senior Urban Planner Celio Melo Costa in the Master Plan for the city of Amarante in Portugal. In January 2001 I have founded the company MBS Architecture and Urban Design Ltd., working as Associated Manager until May During this period I was responsible for more than 50 architecture and urban planning projects and participated in several international competitions. In 2005 I have started a Masters in Environmental Planning and Urban Project (MPPAU) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. In May 2006 I was hired by the United Nations Development Program as Municipal Technical Advisor within the Project of Decentralization and Local Governance in Angola. Remained in Angola until April 2007 and in December 2007 I have finished my Masters in Planning and Project of the Urban Environment with the thesis Methods of spatial analysis for shaping urban policies of poverty reduction in Metropolitan Regions of Sub-Saharan Africa: the case study of Luanda. In January 2008 I was admitted as MPhil research student at the University of Birmingham, where I developed the first drafts of my research project. Along this period I did various academic courses, namely the module on Urban Development and Poverty Reduction conducted by Professor Philip Amis at the International Development Department and participated in seminars of the Urban Morphology Research Group conducted by Professor Jeremy Whitehand. In July 2008 I was hired as Urban Planner for WSP International Sweden within the 3rd Generation Planning Project in Libya. In Tripoli I have colaborated in the Master Plan of Tripoli and Zuwarah and since May 2009 was nominated interim coordinator of the Greater Tripoli Master Plan. From January 2010 to March 2011 I did field work in Rio de Janeiro and collaborated as visiting research student with the Hydrology Laboratory of COPPE at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Between April and July collaborated with the architects Damien Murat, Carol Toneti e Keila Costa in the international competition A House in Luanda, exhibit at the Lisbon Bienal Between April and December 2010 I have collaborated in sub-contract regime for the portuguese company DST SA, together with the Geographer Engineer Filipe Stockler Maia preparing the geographic information database for the infra-structure of optical fiber in Porto. I am presently in Birmingham dedicated to my PhD research project. Along these fifteen years of professional experience in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe allowed me to accumulate valuable experience on master planning, project management and coordination of large infrastructure projects.

The project has been coordinated by the Geographer Engineer Filipe Stockler Maia for the development of the GI database and the Urban Planner Jose Barbedo for the design of the infrastructure plan. Other activities: Collaboration as visiting research student at the Hydrology Laboratory of COPPE at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro on data collection and integration of these data on a GIS platform (to be used on the ongoing research project held at the University of Birmingham) Collaboration with Damien Murat, Carol Toneti e Keila Costa on the development of a housing prototype for Africa, within the international competition A House in Luanda, exhibit at the Lisbon Bienal WSP International Sweden AB Functions and responsibilities: Urban Planner Tripoli, LIBYA WSP International Sweden AB, in cooperation with the Libyan Government owned National Consulting Bureau, has been responsible for the implementation of the 3rd Generation Planning Project in northwestern Libya, including the Tripoli Metropolitan Area. 4 Technical Assistance and Management: Elaboration of Regional and Master Planning in the North Western Region of Libya, namely the Greater Tripoli Master Plan and the Zuwarah Master Plan; Promote environmental awareness and the careful utilization of natural resources, introducing a range of urban solutions for water management, sewage and energy infrastructure; Train local staff on good planning practices and geo-data management; Specify the basic planning standards in cooperation with the national authorities and revise planning laws as well as ordinances to include participatory approaches to ensure sustainable development , United Nations Development Program, ANGOLA Functions and responsibilities: Municipal Technical Advisor Luanda Technical assistance and management: Assist the Planning Department at the municipal level in the development of a Municipal Profile and a three-year program of investments; Ensure the planning process both directly and by facilitating the deployment of appropriate resource-person for the municipal planning department ; Provide technical guidance and coordinate the planning, procurement process, implementing and supervising of various infrastructure construction/rehabilitation solutions in support of the Municipality. Policy analysis and programming: Develop and advise the municipality for permanent and temporary solutions to infrastructure erection, renovation, and maintenance services; Produce manuals and guidelines directed to the municipal authorities. Planning, programming and project management: Collection of available data including Topography, Geological, Hydrological, Socio-economic, Infrastructure, Legal, and Cadastral details; Preliminary planning and development of projects for multipurpose and multi objective benefits, with cost effective solutions; Assessment of land and water resources, namely watershed management solutions based on transfer from water rich-basins to water- short basins; Flood control and drainage recharge of ground water, lifting of water for irrigation for various purposes and also other risk factors; Management plan for storage and transfer of water from areas of absolute or seasonal plenty to water stressed basins for augmentation of existing irrigation commands, water supply and sanitation schemes; Clarification of relevant issues for the project implementation, involve key actors, identify priorities and build institutional commitment towards long-term environmental goals , Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Architect (Pritzker laureate 2006) - BRASIL Functions and responsibilities: Intern Architect Selected Projects: Project for the cultural and educational centre SESC-Tatuapé São Paulo. This multifunctional complex included health, education, culture, and sport amenities, for improvement of life standards, social integration and affordability of public services; Project for the industrial and educational centre SENAI/SESI São Paulo, Brazil. The complex included two 60 store towers for offices, a pavilion for international exhibitions, a congress hall and public facilities. The aim of this urban renewal project was to promote private investment and economic development on a peripheral industrial area of São Paulo.
