9 Memorial Park Workshop Notes March 20, pm Vision Observations Check for integration of active recreation in the statement Concept A Observations Increase shade trees Concept B Observations Amphitheater has less of river as backdrop than Concept A. The increased parking in this concept supports relocation of community events to this site. Overall Observations Softball fences (outfield) could be up to 20 feet in. Confirm location of site utilities a current site survey is needed The utility building in the NE corner of the site will stay as is Alternatives for snow storage in downtown need to be addressed Ensure key elements of park (shelters, amphitheater, etc) are located to maximize usability of them Analyze desire for playground traditional layout versus adventure loop Analyze concepts for multi generational opportunities maximize them Ensure there are driveable (EMS and maintenance) trails at critical locations. Suggestions for integrating two Concepts Use Concept A as the base Keep utility building near White Street Like location of overlook in Concept B continue with this idea Consider integration of an overlook into Concept A memorial plaza idea turning the space into a oval? Like alley style parking off White Street and around edge of park continue with this idea Prefer amphitheater style in Concept A as it s more centrally located and lower maintenance and cost though need to increase ADA accessibility of it Add canoe storage rack to Concept A boat launch area

55 Vision Statement The new park will be a multi-generational regional recreation center serving residents of Jackson and becoming a destination for visitors. The park will become an extension of the downtown business district with trail connections to city, regional, and state trails. It will provide large gathering spaces for social activities and natural areas for stormwater management, natural resource interpretation t ti and reflections of a riparian landscape beneath canopies of shade trees. The park will also serve as a special place for memorializing the City s Veterans.
